Welcome!
Hello Essex.edwards, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay.
At Wikipedia, new Users do not automatically receive a welcome; not even a machine-generated welcome. Welcome messages come from other Users. They are personal and genuine. They contain an offer of assistance if such assistance is ever desired.
I suggest to everyone I welcome that they may find some of the following helpful — there’s nothing personal in my suggestion and you may not need any of them:
- Introduction
- The five pillars of Wikipedia
- How to edit a page
- Help pages
- Tutorial
- How to write a great article
- Avoiding common mistakes
- Manual of Style
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}}
on your talk page and ask your question there. Again, welcome! Dolphin (t) 01:20, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
Introduction sections
editHe Edward! Thanks for your edit to Angular momentum. See your diff. I have chosed to revert your edit, even though it was technically correct. The reason I did so is that Wikipedia has a preference that the opening paragraphs of any article, and Introduction sections in general, should be as clear and simple as possible; more comprehensive and complex ideas should appear later in the article. Many of Wikipedia's Users are young people, and people who don't have an extensive background in the subject of whatever articles they read, so it's important that the opening paragraphs should present a summary of the article in clear, simple language that is meaningful to everyone who visits the article.
The concept of angular momentum being a vector cross product is covered later in the article Angular momentum so it is desirable that the opening paragraphs should explain the subject without resorting to the more advanced concept of vector cross product. I hope to see your User name regularly in future! Dolphin (t) 01:27, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
- The subject is now under discussion at Talk:Angular momentum#Introduction section. I hope you will join the discussion. Dolphin (t) 01:46, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
