Welcome

edit

Hello, Etadeltaupsilon, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I notice that one of the first articles you created appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been reverted for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of deletion, you might like to draft your article before submission, then get me or any other editor to proofread it. To start creating a draft article, just click your user name at the top of the screen when you are logged in, and edit that page as you would any other. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

The one firm rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that if more than one person is using this account to edit, then unfortunately it will be blocked from editing.

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Singularity42 (talk) 20:40, 9 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Eta Delta Upsilon

edit

You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.

Thank you.

A tag has been placed on Eta Delta Upsilon requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Singularity42 (talk) 20:40, 9 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello

Why are you blanking my userpages? Is there something you wish to discuss with me? Regards,  Skomorokh  21:41, 11 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

yes i would like to know why exactly my page was deleted...it was meant to inform others about my fraternity..many other fraternities have similar pages...i would at least like to have the contents of my page back and i would also like to know why wasnt i notified before the page was deleted etc..

No problem. The Eta Delta Upsilon article was deleted because it gave no indication as to why the topic merited an encyclopaedia entry. I appreciate that you want to inform people about the fraternity, but Wikipedia is not a free webhost. Wikipedia strives only to publish articles about topics that have had significant coverage in independent, reliable sources such as newspapers, academic journals, and scholarly books. You were notified before the deletion of the article several hours before at User_talk:Etadeltaupsilon#Speedy_deletion_nomination_of_Eta_Delta_Upsilon and I have restored the contents of the page to your userpage at User:Etadeltaupsilon. Regards,  Skomorokh  04:30, 12 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

would i need to link it to other sources? what do i need to do to make it legit..btw thanks for giving back my contents i appreciate it

No worries. An example of a "legit" article on a fraternity would be Phi Kappa Phi – check out the inline citations and the References section. For help, you might read Wikipedia:Your first article or the organisation notability guidelines, or just place {{helpme}} on this page to have a volunteer come by and answer any questions you might have. Good luck!  Skomorokh  04:50, 12 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button   located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 04:19, 12 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Your account has been blocked from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended or used for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.

Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. You have violated one or more of our rules, including rules against adding spam links, posting advertisements, using Wikipedia for promotion, and editing inappropriately with a conflict of interest. Although Wikipedia has a great many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, it is considered inappropriate for such groups to use Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See Wikipedia:FAQ/Organization for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. See Wikipedia:Conflict of interest for the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, or organization. If this does not fit in with your goals here, you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

If you do intend to make contributions that are in line with Wikipedia's policies, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} below this message box.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
See also Wikipedia:Appealing a block for more information. Cirt (talk) 01:36, 17 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
