Speedy deletion nomination of Carel van der Merwe
editIf this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Carel van der Merwe, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. PRAXIDICAE💕 13:52, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
Managing a conflict of interest
editHello, Eugenevdm. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam#External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. PRAXIDICAE💕 13:52, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Praxidicae,
- There is no conflict of interest here. If you would like to point out how I can improve the article to make it sound less promotional, I'm open to suggestions. Shall I remove the ISBN numbers? 156.155.238.44 (talk) 14:12, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
- So the photo you uploaded stating own work by "Eugene Francois van der Merwe" in an article about "Carel van der Merwe" has absolutely no relation despite sharing the same last name and taking professional photos? How curious. PRAXIDICAE💕 14:17, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
- Yes indeed there is no relation. Van der Merwe is a common surname in South Africa, like like Smith is in England. See here:
- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Van_der_Merwe
- > Van der Merwe is a common Afrikaans surname, derived from the Dutch van der Merwen ("from the Merwede"). Eugenevdm (talk) 16:22, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
- So how are you the copyright holder of that professional photo of the subject in question? PRAXIDICAE💕 16:25, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @Praxidicae,
- Thank for the message and question about the photo.
- On 9 April 2022 I went to a book introduction of Willem Pretoriuis's "iewers tussen êrens" at Die Bôrdienghuis in Wellington, South Africa.
- Carel van der Merwe was one of the contributers of this book. I introduced myself to Carel and informed him that I was a fan of both his books Nasleep and Gelfwolf. I also informed him also that I had seen his Afrikaans Wiki entry and that felt is was severely outdated in light of his new works. I told him that I could contribute and requested a photo.
- @Praxidicae, I'm struggling to understand why you are challenging me on this article. Apart from the photo, are there other bothersome items in the article that you don't like and feel is promotional?
- As you have rightly mentioned, this is my first article, and if the way I uploaded the photo is problematic then could you perhaps guide me as to how I can re-upload it? Eugenevdm (talk) 22:57, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
