Introduction to contentious topics
editYou have recently been editing the Arab–Israeli conflict which has been designated a contentious topic. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially-designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Additionally you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

- @Selfstudier, In my opinion, it is better to have a neutral verse written with proof that it was indeed carried out by the IDF, because there were cases where it was said that A happened by B, but it happened by the other side. Euro know (talk) 12:05, 10 February 2023 (UTC)
- WP:NPOV is not based on personal opinion, yours or mine. We go by independent reliable secondary sources and what they say. That is what WP:NPOV means, what the balance of reliable sources say, if they express doubt, so do we and if they do not, neither do we. There is afaik, no dispute that these killings were carried out by Israeli forces. Do you have any sources contradicting the accounts? Selfstudier (talk) 12:16, 10 February 2023 (UTC)
- I'm not saying that if IDF made it. A paragraph before the one we talking about, there is no connection to IDF, simple as said: "in an Israeli raid in the camp", so It would be dressed the same tone as the one before. If you thing that I'm wrong, I won't fight over the tone of the article. Euro know (talk) 12:31, 10 February 2023 (UTC)
- I think we are talking about two separate things. An article title is one thing, there are a set of rules that decide titles and sometimes it is not so clear what a title should be especially if the title is descriptive rather than commonname but the principle is essentially the same, what do the sources "call" it, in general.
- But article content is different, there we are not constrained by the same rules as apply to article titles, we can describe what occurred (again, according to reliable sources). If you look at Timeline of the Israeli–Palestinian conflict in 2023 (or the same for 2022), the events always use the killings terminology if there is no doubt about it, including for the killings in Jenin.
