Thank you
I’ve said it in private, but it’s always worth repeating in public: thank you for your service on the committee. You’re one of the most reasonable minds we have on the project, and we are all better for your service. TonyBallioni (talk) 02:28, 1 January 2019 (UTC)

Crouch, Swale restrictions appeal
Resolved by motion at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Clarification and Amendment:
The restriction on new article creations imposed on Crouch, Swale (talk · contribs) as part of their unban conditions in January 2018 is modified as follows:
- Crouch, Swale is permitted to create new articles only by creating them in his userspace or in the draft namespace and then submitting them to the Articles for Creation process for review. He is permitted to submit no more than one article every seven days. This restriction includes the creation of new content at a title that is a redirect or disambiguation page.
- The one-account restriction and prohibition on moving or renaming pages outside of userspace remain in force.

dash
This edit chenges an en to an em, and I've seen that page refs should be em's, but I know it's not worth changeing a cite web ref as the template does it anyway. but reading the WP:DASH, the en is for the range and the em is for the other, not what you edited and not what I understand page refs should be. What am I thinking wrongly ? Dave Rave (talk) 10:06, 23 February 2019 (UTC)

ArbCom 2019 special circular
Administrators must secure their accounts
The Arbitration Committee may require a new RfA if your account is compromised.

This message was sent to all administrators following a recent motion. Thank you for your attention. For the Arbitration Committee, Cameron11598 02:41, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)
ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.
Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.
We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.
For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:03, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
- Mildly, this would have come across as a lot less threatening if it had been sent by the WMF rather than Arbcom. Fair or not, Arbcom is sometimes seen as draconian, and also political. This perception has coloured people's impression of this notification.
- Contrast the present response with what would have occurred if we'd all received a hypothetical message from the WMF, noting that admin tools give trusted users some access to the site's back-of-house, noting that it might be hard for compromised accounts to regain community trust, and offering tips for keeping accounts secure. -- Euryalus (talk) 02:40, 6 May 2019 (UTC)

Thank you
I want to take a moment to thank you for all of your work as an administrator and Arbitrator here on Wikipedia. You have made a difference in our little community, and your guiding hand has been and will be missed. Risker (talk) 06:05, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
- Me, too, Euryalus. I was surprised to see at Wikipedia:Former administrators that you had resigned but I see that your life has gotten very busy. I hope when time allows and if you have the inclination, you could return to "active service". ;-) Good luck with your studies. Liz Read! Talk! 01:22, 30 May 2019 (UTC)
- And me as well. It was a privilege to serve on the Committee with you, and I hope we'll see you back around one day when your schedule allows for it. Seraphimblade Talk to me 02:36, 30 May 2019 (UTC)
@Risker, Liz, and Seraphimblade: thanks, that's very kind of you. Gave the bit back in the spirit of adminship as no big deal. And studying is taking up basically every waking hour, so I'll just be around as a reader and not an editor for the next while.
Good luck with your own editing, and thanks for being part of the en-WP experience - it's been fun to work with you. -- Euryalus (talk) 21:09, 12 June 2019 (UTC)

Wikiproject Military history coordinator election nominations open
Nominations for the upcoming project coordinator election are now open. A team of up to ten coordinators will be elected for the next year. The project coordinators are the designated points of contact for issues concerning the project, and are responsible for maintaining our internal structure and processes. They do not, however, have any authority over article content or editor conduct, or any other special powers. More information on being a coordinator is available here. If you are interested in running, please sign up here by 23:59 UTC on 14 September! Voting doesn't commence until 15 September. If you have any questions, you can contact any member of the coord team. Cheers, Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 02:38, 1 September 2019 (UTC)

huh?
dropped the tools as well? I hope you dont join the hordes leaving... or simply not editing anymore... JarrahTree 13:06, 22 September 2019 (UTC)
- Hi JarrahTree, nice to hear from you. Haven't really left, but am working towards a professional qualification which is taking up the time I used to have for editing. Returned the admin tools because I don't have time to use them and after ten years I still think they're no big deal anyway.
- Am still around as a Wikipedia reader, and might make the occasional edit. Hope you're well, and keeping up the good work on all the usual topics! -- Euryalus (talk) 01:45, 23 September 2019 (UTC)

- @Mz7: Thanks. Am not here much till semester ends but there's some categorisation things I'd like to do after that. -- Euryalus (talk) 11:43, 18 October 2019 (UTC)
2019 US Banknote Contest
US Banknote Contest | ||
---|---|---|
November-December 2019 | ||
There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons. In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate. If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here |
