Skanderbeg GA review

edit

I addressed your concerns in Talk:Skanderbeg/GA1#GA_Review. Please review. If you are not a returning user under a different name I don't know, but what I can say for sure is that you should be more specific in your review. --Sulmues (talk) 21:41, 21 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Can you please restore my comments to your review? You made an edit which removed all my comments. This is considered disruptive in Wikipedia. [1]. --Sulmues (talk) 15:31, 24 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
You might also want to know that I retired the nomination. Since you didn't formally place "on hold" at the GA nominations, this review is worthless and no longer required. Thank you for your efforts. --Sulmues (talk) 15:40, 24 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Talk:Skanderbeg/GA1

edit

A tag has been placed on Talk:Skanderbeg/GA1, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent. If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Euzen, I reverted your edit [2], because calling the Albanian editors "Albanian nationalists" can be used against you. Please do not use discriminatory labeling for other editors in Wikipedia. I also made some comments to your review. I disagree with most of your comments: in general an article should be based on secondary sources. Right now the article is not ready for GA: I will have to work on it a little more to reflect better sources, but thank you for your help with it. --Sulmues (talk) 02:56, 28 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

If you know latin, maybe you can help with translation?--Antidiskriminator (talk) 15:48, 2 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

These are footnotes in Hahn's book, not very well interpreted by the OCR program. The latin text is nothing new. It's the Barleti's paragraph on Castrioti's origins. I gave the exact page in that discussion. In general it says that Ionannes Castrioti was one of the lords of Epirus and he was coming from a noble family of Aemathia (Macedonia). You can also check one of the many translations of Barleti's book in French or other languages. --Euzen (talk) 21:11, 3 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Skanderbeg on the road to GA and FA

Here in GA review number 1 you suggested:

a paragraph should be added to explain the meaning of "Epirus" and "Albania" as it evolves in primary, secondary and tertiary sources accordingly.

I started something that i never done before, but i like it already very, very much. As explained here, i started new draft on Vojsava Tripalda‎‎, with idea to create article, sentence by sentence. As article is quite small, we will easily add part by part, and create one good version that will be the best. Please, say to the talk page will you participate, as i would really give my best to help, compromise and do what ever is needed to finally, after one year of discussion, end this on the best way, friendly and calmly. Stratioti

edit

Thanks for your comments on my talk page about edit disputes on this page. I am aware of the modern day ethnic sensitivities. I do not, however, think wikipedia is best served as a battlefield about questions of ethnicity. At present, to an outsider, the article has balance in that it is clear that stratioti came from the Balkans and Greece. The emphasis of the article should be on the military aspects. I still believe that you over-inflate one incident and that this unbalances the article. For what it is worth, I do not find your edits childish and such insults by your opponents are uncivil. Best wishes Monstrelet (talk) 14:10, 10 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your reply. The article can be de-flated but this has to be done in a balanced way.

Okay, I'm really, really sorry about this, but I've gone through your edits and... you need to take time off.

When you come back, please bear in mind that rude edit summaries and rude statements towards other editors are less than acceptable. I also call your attention to the ARBMAC ruling, which has been stated to apply very broadly to any and all disputes pertaining to the Balkans, and according to which all administrators can implement disciplinary measures as they see fit.

I do not like imposing disciplinary measures on users who are productive contributors. But Wikipedia is a collaborative encyclopedia, not just a collaborative encyclopedia. You must be able to work with others.

As you know from the many disputes you've been involved in outdated sources aren't acceptable, so please use only modern ones. Btw I checked another work of the author you're citing[7] so and I'd suggest you don't consider it a reliable source, as it'd be comparable to tour guides in modern times. In general try checking how many times and by whom an author's work is cited to get a moderst understanding about its reliability.--— ZjarriRrethues — talk 13:30, 17 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
Wikipedia users may not mind what you checked and what you think "outdated" and "unreliable" (unless WP defines them). In my turn I would think that everything written during Hodja period in Albania is good only for a laugh. But this is my personal opinion. The article will be restored with original quotations. If you think that "Greco" means "Byzantine" you can add a relevant note. You are not supposed to edit the article according to your interpratation. Also, Buccola writes about "Greco-Albanians" and not "Albanians". Inscription in the church is in Greek (for peoples to read) and not in Albanian.

Dot above i or dot after и

edit

Hi,

I accidentally came to the portion of the text of one letter that can be seen here or here. I know that it is forum, but I suppose that this letter is authentic.

If it is authentic then it maybe can add additional light to several discussions about Skanderbeg's ancestor Branilo Kastriot. You participated in those discussions too. A couple of users emphasized that Fan Noli, Harry Hodgkinson and couple of other authors thought that the first name of Skanderbeg's ancestor was not Branilo because Karl Hopf made mistake and:

  1. saw names Branilo and Kastriot next to each other and thought it is one person
  2. overlooked letter и
  3. identified "i" within "Branilo i Kastriot" as I (Branilo I Kastriot)
  4. ....

If you look more closely to the text of the letter you will notice a dot after letter и and in the next sentence mention of Kastrioti, kephalo of Kanina.

Nobody denied that there was a kephalo of Valona whose name was Branilo. That does not mean that nobody else was Branilo. In case that Karl Hopf did not made mistake (and overlooked not only и but also a dot after it [и.] which I think is very hard to be overlooked because cyrilic i is three times more visible than i and if there is a dott after it) then the first name of the kephalo of Kanina was also Branilo, Branilo Kastriot like Hopf said.

What do you think about it? --Antidiskriminator (talk) 21:50, 14 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

The letters provided in that forum seem to be a reproduction and are not photos of the original. If one dot or one i makes the difference in a national myth, then we should be suspicious that somebody would be tempted to add them in the original. However, these are not enough to change the history, as the name Branilo appears again and again in the Castrioti family tree. There is one Branilo (later Hamsa), son of Stanisa, and one more Branai "marquis d' Atripalda", grandson of this Branilo-Hamsa, very much in accord with the Greek-Orthodox tradition of grandson taking the name of his grandfather. --Euzen (talk) 18:55, 18 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Sources

edit

Whatever Perraivos wrote in his journals/accounts etc. is irrelevant. Whether he mentions it only once as the Albanian Regiment is irrelevant, we have plenty of reliable sources and when we're in need of primary ones we'll use official documents of the French army and attribute any issue to them and we're not going to deem as noteworthy to mention fact(oid)s that the sources don't deem as noteworthy to mention i.e Perraivos only mentions it once as the Albanian Regiment. Whether he mentions that it was formed by the Russian army is irrelevant too, we have very reliable sources that describe the situation properly and within a relevant context. Encyclopaedias aren't based on memoirs and primary accounts of individuals. That second part you added had nothing to do with our subject. Btw either you misrepresented the sources or Perraivos didn't remember the situation as he couldn't have been a member of any Albanian Regiment per the sources. If he served in Corfu under the Russians, he was a member of the Greek unit of 500 men.--— ZjarriRrethues — talk 22:53, 14 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Also, we're not going to enter into any modern nationalist disputes so don't try to create such a dispute and don't label again scholars with conspiracy theory terms. The sources mention the multiethnic character of the unit and so does the article.--— ZjarriRrethues — talk 22:58, 14 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Glad to see that according to your revised version Souliotes were not muslim Albanians. Primary sources will be included since WP permits it.
