Adoption.
Hi! I noticed you were looking for a user to adopt you. I guess I will be able to help you, if you want. Best regards, Cheers, FriyMan Per aspera ad astra 12:35, 19 July 2017 (UTC)

- Well, do you have something specific, that you need help, or do you just want to go over the basics? Cheers, FriyMan Per aspera ad astra 19:46, 21 July 2017 (UTC)
- @FriyMan: Thanks. I would appreciate some help learning how to determine an approach to editing. For example, just edit what I already know something about or in some other way? Wondering how to identify those areas and then wondering if there are any checklists or steps or the like for how to start. Right now I have just edited a few things I know and then watch those areas for any other changes. Not always sure how to reply or discuss if I do not agree with other changes others make (does not happen often, but it has happened. Thanks! FULBERT (talk) 19:57, 21 July 2017 (UTC)
- Ok. Let's move the discussion to my page - User:FriyMan/AAU/FULBERT. I will help you there. Cheers, FriyMan Per aspera ad astra 20:29, 21 July 2017 (UTC)

- Thank you, FriyMan (talk · contribs). I have been steadily trying to learn more and appreciate your help. Can you help me with 2 other things? I want to better understand how to set up my User: page but cannot figure out how to navigate the templates. For example, I want to have some text (like here) with the couple user boxes I have stacked in a table on the right on top of each other. The three I have are next to each other. The other thing relates to shortcuts with editing and this coding. I often need to do a Google search to find a Wiki page with how to use Edit coding, and wonder if there are any shortcuts / templates that link to the commonly used links to these things. Thank you. Message from Monica about Week 2 assignment
Hi Prof.
I chose to review the page called "Research". Here is my answer to things that distracted me:
I don't care for the phrase "stock of knowledge" in the definition of research. I think of a "stock" as something that is be used/consumed and then is depleted. I don't this of bodies of knowledge working that way, so using the word in this way doesn't fit my thinking.
I don't like the phrase "several forms of research" followed by a long (more than several!) list of inconsistently selected areas. This sentence could benefit from the using an existing system of classification like Dewey Decimal with its 10 classes. Yes, I did just look this up on Wikipedia! ;)
Thanks for listening! MMMcS--Monica 17:18, 25 September 2017 (UTC)

Welcome!
I reviewed the Mergers and Acquisitions topic on Wikipedia and I noticed the following:
Mergers and Acquisitions: the Wikipedia article uses the words, "From a legal point of view" and did not cite a reference.
Mergers and Acquisitions: provides a definition of merger but it did not include a reference.
When the article starts to breakdown the different components of Mergers and Acquisitions, I like the first sentence under the header "Acquisition" which also provided a reference. KentView (talk) 05:59, 2 October 2017 (UTC)

Week 3, 4, 5 & 6 assignment report from Yun
Hi professor,
For week 3: I've assigned myself an article "Shenzhen" to review and improved some language, clarity, grammar and spelling inside.
For week 4: I've assigned myself an article "Audit" to review and added 3 sentences to complement the audit history part; at the same time, I inserted three citations to provide evidences for these wiki edits. Yunye2017 (talk) 01:31, 13 October 2017 (UTC)
For week 5: I've assigned myself two articles Accountant and Financial audit to review and added 1 sentence with citation respectively. Yunye2017 (talk) 02:11, 13 October 2017 (UTC)
For week 6: I've created two appropriate photos to 2 articles: Yellowstone National Park and Bryant Park. Yunye2017 (talk) 03:29, 13 October 2017 (UTC)
So far, I've finished all the extra credit tasks. Long sigh of relief, haha. I felt so proud that I overcame my fear and anxiety about no idea to edit a seeming scary professional term at the very very beginning. Now, I can really feel the excitation and interest that professor @FULBERT: shared with us in class. Appreciate sooooooo much for your guidance me to fantastic Wiki World. Thank you very much!

Monica Wikipedia weeks 5 & 6
For week 5, the first article I edited was Research. I added information about social media use for qualitative research. The second article was quantitative research. I added information about some limitations of this method. For week 6, I added a symbol to the quantitative research page. Monica 02:30, 15 October 2017 (UTC) (talk)

Hi Prof.
Here are the links to the articles I've edited: Research and Quantitative research.
The signature stuff has not worked well for me. Using the four tildes enclosed in the nowiki tag seems to work exactly the same as using just using the four tildes alone, i.e. the signature gets added, but not the link to my (talk) page. What does kind of work is a combo of using the four tildes plus the code for adding a talk link. That's how I'll sign this now. Hope it looks okay? Thanks!
Just the four tildes looks like this: Monica 15:25, 16 October 2017 (UTC)

Andy's Assignment Week 3
As a scientific endeavour, machine learning had been growing (grew) out of the quest for artificial intelligence. Already in the early days of AI had been (as) an academic discipline, some researchers were interested in having machines learn from data. They attempted to approach the problem with various symbolic methods, as well as what were later (then) termed "neural networks"; these were mostly perceptrons and other models that were later found to be reinventions of the generalized linear models of statistics.[1] Probabilistic reasoning was also employed, especially in automated medical diagnosis.
However, (an) increasing emphasis on the logical, knowledge-based approach caused a rift between AI and machine learning. Probabilistic systems were plagued by theoretical and practical problems of data acquisition and representation.[2]:488 By 1980, expert systems had come to dominate AI, and statistics was out of favor.[3] Work on symbolic/knowledge-based learning did continue within AI, leading to inductive logic programming, but the more statistical lines (lines) of research was now outside the field of AI proper, in pattern recognition and information retrieval.[2]:708–710; 755 Neural networks research had been abandoned by AI and computer science around the same time. This line, too, was continued outside the AI/CS field, as "connectionism", by researchers from other disciplines including Hopfield, Rumelhart and Hinton. Their main success came in the mid-1980s with the reinvention of backpropagation.Xl2085 (talk) 19:56, 18 October 2017 (UTC) Machine_learning

Week 3: Started to review article in Wikipedia called Technology Strategy
Attached is the link to the article Technology strategy
Week 4: Reviewed Technology strategy article, contributed to article and added citation
Reviewed article and contributed to the article and cited. The link to the article Technology strategy
Week 2 Poorva: Notes on the article
The Article on NYC Emergency Management does not seem to have a robust introduction. However, it is comprehensive in its overview of the OEM, and includes recent updates like the location change. There seems to be a neutral tone to this article, and the links are up to date and seem to have more connected citations, allowing the reader to explore this topic further if needed. The references section is also robust and well organized. However, would have liked to see more information on the OEM in connection the events of 9/11. Pn612 (talk) 17:34, 19 October 2017 (UTC)
Week 3 Poorva: Edits to the article
Added more information on the location of the OEM during 9/11, and cited the reference. Changed a spelling error - attacks was misspelled as attachs Pn612 (talk) 17:52, 19 October 2017 (UTC)
Week 4 Poorva: Further edits with citation
Added more information about the OEM command center during 9/11 attacks, included citations. Because I was so interested in the relation of the former OEM and the role it played during the attacks, I wanted to make this section more robust so I decided to research more about the make shift command center and what changes have been made to it since then. It was an interesting find, because I was unaware that a bus had been used and that both, the former President George W. Bush and Mayor of New York City Rudy Guiliani had ridden this bus. Pn612 (talk) 18:09, 19 October 2017 (UTC)
Week 4 Tingyu Yang
Hi professor, I added one sentence with the citation for the financial statement. It is under Purpose for business entities.Shuer (talk) 18:56, 19 October 2017 (UTC)Tingyu Yang
Week 6 Poorva: Adding Images and One more Article
Article on NYC Emergency Management: The article was using the old logo of the NYC OEM, and it also was titled "logo before rebranding" Since there were no current logos on Wikimedia, I uploaded the new logo into wikipedia, also with the citation. I then used visual editor to change he logo and use the updated one on the article page. Pn612 (talk) 19:07, 19 October 2017 (UTC)
Article on Disaster recovery and business continuity auditing: The terms Business Continuity and disaster recovery were being loosely used, so I explained the difference between the two terms in the introduction. I added the reference to a book I have on BCDR planning, something I used even for my paper. It clearly explains the difference between the two terms and shows that disaster recovery is a subset of business continuity.
Week 5 Tingyu Yang Contribute to two more articles
Hi professor, I reviewed and added sentences to Alibaba and Customer to customer. I added the sentence under Alipay of Alibaba. One of the advantages for Alibaba is the quick and reliable payment system such as credit card, debit card, Alipay, Quick-pay, online banking, and so on. I also added a sentence under Business model of Customer to customer. With the development of technology, there are various platforms that Consumer-to-consumer e-commerce is taking place on, such as social media (e.g. Facebook), advertisement websites and online auction sites.Shuer (talk) 20:05, 19 October 2017 (UTC)Tingyu Yang

I reviewed the following articles Glass ceiling and Technology strategy. In the Glass Ceiling article I added a new topic about Maternal Brain and also added the citation. In the second article Technology Strategy. I made some changes to the article, also added the definition of a SWOT analysis and linked it to a wikipedia. link.

Week 5 Poorva: Reviewing 2 more articles
Article on Emergency Management: The article was misrepresenting the interchangeability of the terms emergency and disaster, which are different. I briefly explained the difference and made the edit, added a source from the World Health Organization, and made the introduction more robust. There was a message template requesting to cite a source for that information, so I looked into it and added the citation as requested.
Article on Notify NYC: The article stated that the Notify NYC service was started by the NYC OEM, but it did not mention that it was started in collaboration with the Department of Information Technology & Telecommunications as well. Although this fact is stated later in the article, it should be mentioned in the opening line as well. I also ensured I linked this edit to the DoITT page, in case the reader wanted to be directed there at this stage of the article. The last line of the article announces that mobile services would be included and this was said in 2011. I did further research and found an article dated September 22, 2017 which gave the release information and the capability of the app. I thus added the updated information with the reference cited.
Pn612 (talk) 18:24, 19 October 2017 (UTC)
- I wish you would have done these in your Sandbox @Pn612: as requested, but ok. FULBERT (talk) 00:01, 20 October 2017 (UTC)

Week 1 Assignment
As my first new thread, I want to highlight some of the things I've learned so far: 1. How Wikipedia really works. I always hear about how it's unreliable because anyone can edit, but now I realize it's more accurate than many people think. 2. The Talk Page behind each post in Wikipedia (where the magic happens). 3. How to do basic edits and link pages.
I look forward to contributing more! aaliriani 21:56, 28 October 2017 (UTC)
- Great to hear Arwaaliriani, and welcome! Remember to end your post with ~~~~ so it should create a link at the end of your replies. FULBERT (talk) 15:25, 29 October 2017 (UTC)
- I've been trying to get the link but I don't know what why it's only putting a timestamp and no link. --aaliriani 16:54, 29 October 2017 (UTC)
- Not sure what the issue is Arwaaliriani. Perhaps it is something we can ask Shalor (Wiki Ed) for help? I am not sure what the issue is. FULBERT (talk) 16:59, 29 October 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Arwaaliriani! I think I know what happened - I'm going to send you and the professor a quick email since I need to send pictures to show you how to fix this. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 16:05, 30 October 2017 (UTC)
- Sent out the mail - if it's what I think it is, it's a fairly common problem and an easy one to fix! Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 16:15, 30 October 2017 (UTC)

Metropolitan Museum of Art Edit-a-thon (Nov 19) and global online Wikipedia Asian Art Month (Nov 1-30)
Sunday November 19, 10:30 am - 4:00pm: Metropolitan Museum of Art Edit-a-thon | |
---|---|
The Wikipedia Asian Month Edit-a-thon @ The Met will be the Metropolitan Museum of Art's second edit-a-thon, hosted on Sunday November 19, 2017 in the Bonnie Sacerdote Classroom, Ruth and Harold D. Uris Center for Education (81st Street entrance) at The Met Fifth Avenue in New York City. Following the first Met edit-a-thon in May 2017, the museum is excited to work with Wikipedia Asian Month for the potential to seed new articles about Asian artworks, artwork types, and art traditions, from any part of Asia. These can be illustrated with thousands of its recently-released images of public domain artworks available for Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons from the museum’s collection spanning 5,000 years of art. The event is an opportunity for Wikimedia communities to engage The Met's diverse Asian collections onsite and remotely.
Attendees should bring their own laptops and power cords. Light snacks, drinks and cake will be provided. We also welcome remote participation for the global online Wikipedia Asian Art Month, running November 1-30. Thanks, and hope to see you at the museum, and/or as part of the online Wikipedia Asian Month contest!--Pharos (talk) 16:36, 1 November 2017 (UTC) |
