Sonic articles

edit

I will be reverting those articles and setting up a merge discussion for the rest non-notable characters. Please leave the articles as they are until the discussion is over. If the discussion does not end up working, the articles can go back to the way that they were. TTN (talk) 16:28, 10 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Can I ask you how you know those one timers won't be making any comebacks, take Black Doom for instance he, (having similar abilities to Shadow) could have survived that fall.Fairfieldfencer (talk) 11:16, 11 January 2008 (UTC)FairfieldfencerReply

And what if he doesn't? Most of the characters are one-shot anyway. And what's your problem callin' us vandals, kid? We're followin' the freakin' rules. Stop annoyin' us. -- ZeroGiga (Contact) 10:56, 22 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

"Vandal" with reference to the Oxford English Dictionary is someone who wantonly damages or destroys, as TTN was doing with other peoples entries. I may be only 12 but I would not deface others work just for the sake of it.Fairfieldfencer (talk) 16:33, 22 January 2008 (UTC)FairfieldfencerReply

Come on, should you really blame him. So... yeah, he may be just gaming the system, but if you want to see the root of our "vandalism," read the rules or talk to the admins about what the rules are doing to the site and how "vandals" have the upper hand. Good luck. -- ZeroGiga (Contact) 3:02, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

Centralized TV Episode Discussion

edit

Over the past months, TV episodes have been reverted by (to name a couple) TTN, Eusebeus and others. No centralized discussion has taken place, so I'm asking everyone who has been involved in this issue to voice their opinions here in this centralized spot, be they pro or anti. Discussion is here [1]. --Maniwar (talk) 21:16, 15 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Fairfieldfencer. You've brought some good discussion to the Sega Project, and I was wondering if you were interested in joining our little project. Anyone can join, but I'm extending this invitation to you personally. If you want to join, just sign your name on the project's members page. You don't even need to have a full-time commitment to the project to join. E-123 Omega

edit

I've been reading over the article again, and the more I look, the more I question what I am able to do for the article beyond what I put in my assessment. The main problem is the sourcing and that some sections just seem to scream "original research". Now, I know that all of it is true, having played the games myself up to Sonic Heroes, but the sourcing is the main error. I'll keep looking for them, but if you find them, I'll help you set up the references. Sorry, but don't expect an edit from me unless I can turn something up. I'd rather cite the content than remove it, so I won't be stripping the article down, either. Redphoenix526 (Talk) 18:47, 19 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Redphoenix, I don't think I'll be much help so I'm going to pull out. But I'll keep an eye out for vandalism and forget about the Omega article I can handle that myself, and thanks for the advice it'll come in really handy.Fairfieldfencer (talk) 17:52, 21 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hey, I did find something you could use. You can cite lines in the games themselves. Use bold text to say who says it (followed by a colon), regular text for the line, and italic text to cite the specific game. Make sure you put the year the game was released next to it. Just sandwich all of these between <ref></ref> tags, and you can use that for some things that are hard to cite like the "I couldn't even beat Gamma or Beta" line. Also, don't worry about the list, I'm pretty much the only one who looks after it anyway. I appealed to the Video Games project for help, to no responses. At least the list is coming along; slow, but it's working. If you see a game and you just happen to know it's not on my franchise list but should be, can you let me know? That's how you can be helpful to me. Thanks, and don't worry about having to pull out. Redphoenix526 (Talk) 02:09, 22 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

I've used that piece of advice for the article along with some new info I added.Fairfieldfencer (talk) 11:08, 12 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Rouge&TopazX.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Rouge&TopazX.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Polly (Parrot) 21:38, 19 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hey FFF. I don't know if you knew this or not, but we've got an article listed at WP:GAN and it's on hold until we can fix a few things. I've been involved in fixing it, but I could use more help (the other editor who's working on it with me hasn't done too terribly much). The article is Sega Mega Drive, and on the talk page our reviewer left a couple of comments on what we need to do. It's mostly sourcing issues, but if you can help, I would really appreciate it. Ad Banner

edit

Hey, I know the Sega Project hasn't had an ad banner ever, which is why you're using the "Join the Sega Project" text on your userpage. Anyway, if you've read the project talk page, I've created an ad banner, though I'm not so great with images. I've got it on my userpage, too. Here it is:

What do you think? If you like it and want to use it, feel free. You can find the code with the link to the project in the coding for the one on the project talk page. If you like it, I think I'll put this banner into the rotation for Wikipedia Ads, which many users (like Doktor Wilhelm) have on their pages to advertise projects at random. It might draw the project some more members. Red Phoenix (Talk) 23:34, 6 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

The banner looks great and should do well as an advertisement but I'll stick with the one I've got now if that's OK with you.Fairfieldfencer (talk) 16:33, 7 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, sure, no problem. I'll get it put into the ad banner rotation right away. Red Phoenix (Talk) 16:52, 7 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Citing video games

edit

Hey, FFF. While I was looking through stuff for an article I'm working on for a future GA nom, Sega Mega Drive, I hit a reference template that I think you might find useful while you're working with the Sonic characters articles. Now, you're supposed to limit how much you source from the games, since they are "primary sources", but this template should help you cite it right. Here's the template:

{{cite video game|title= |developer= |publisher= |date= |platform= |version= |level= |language= |isolang= |quote= }}

Just fill in as much of it as you can each time. Hope that helps. Red Phoenix (Talk) 19:37, 13 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Template:Sonic character

edit

After reading the template debates and all that stuff, FFF, I'd really like to keep you from edit warring with everyone. So I've set up a debate on the Sega Project talk page (not the assessment one we use for article cleanup) and invited A Man In Black to come talk with us. I'm also going to invite Kung Fu Man, the person who reverted your last edit. Let's see if we can do this right and come to consensus. Red Phoenix flame of life...protector of all... 17:03, 22 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Please don't continue the edit war like this [2]. It only makes things worse. Cigraphix (talk) 14:17, 23 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I came here to tell you the same thing. Given the discussion at the template talk page and Wikipedia talk:VG#Sonic info, it is clear that there is not yet consensus to add age, height, weight, or other such characteristics. These fields should only be added if there is consensus to do so. Your edit warring is not productive and violates the spirit of Wikipedia:Three-revert rule. I request that you revert yourself and only add the fields if the discussion determines it. Pagrashtak 20:00, 23 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

NO!! I will not revert my edit!! Man in Black's vandalism to the template is what started this!! I undid the edit then he undid it again in the middle of the discussion.Fairfieldfencer FFF 20:05, 23 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

First of all, A Man in Black's edit was in good faith and does not constitute vandalism—don't just throw that term around. If you look at the link I provided above, you will see that other members of the video game project support his edit, and are in fact providing links to policies and guidelines to back up their statements. You criticize him for reverting in the middle of a discussion, but isn't that exactly what you are doing? I will again ask you to revert your edit, as it defies consensus. Pagrashtak 20:24, 23 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Characters fixed

edit

I fixed all of the issues with citations that we had in the Sonic character articles. It wasn't the infobox that was the problem, it was the whole debacle we had with the Sonic character template and the fact that the cite webs were on parameters that were removed (sometimes age, sometimes weight, etc.). That's also why it happened just a short time ago, because of the template issues. So that's fixed. Red Phoenix flame of life...protector of all... 18:17, 28 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Your changes to Severus Snape

edit

Hi. I just undid your good faith changes to Severus Snape. The single brackets inside a quotation indicate changes or ommissions from the original quote. For example, the final quote of the epilogue does not in fact include Snape's name, so you cannot place "(Snape)" inside the quote (that would constitute falsifying a quote). However, since the absence of his name makes the quote, out of context, difficult to understand, this is remedied by adding a bracketed mention of the name to make it clear to the reader. Likewise, when portions of a quote are ommitted, then this is indicated by placing an ellipsis inside single brackets: [...]. The use of brackets in "[H]e" indicates that the original quote used a lower case h (probably because we are picking up a sentence halfway through or after a semicolon), and we are changing it to a capital H for readability. The brackets indicate that this is a change from the original text. Your changes amounted to falsifying the quotes because they presented text that was different from that of the original material without indicating that changes were being made. Just so you know. Sonic task force

edit

Hey, FFF. As the de facto leader of the Sega Project, I have seen a need to expand our project a bit. Articles about the Sonic series of games constitute a large portion of the project's articles, and when we compare how much work we have between the series and other Sega articles, well, the Sonic series definitely has its fair share. So, for better organizational purposes, I am going to create a Sonic task force within the Sega Project. A task force runs much like a WikiProject, though it does not have the size or many of the qualities of the project. After the page is created, the shortcut to the task force will be WP:SEGA/S, and the page will be Wikipedia:WikiProject Sega/Sonic. I will edit the header of the Sega Project's main page to include this task force. This task force seems more like a task force that would be along your train of thought more than mine (as much as I love to work on the Sonic articles, I often find myself working on other articles), so I want to put you in charge of the new task force after I have it set up. The task force's logo will be Image:Blue_circle_with_white_highlight.svg, and for every article that will fall under the new task force, the parameter tf=Sonic needs to be added to the {{segaproject}} box on every article's talk page. It's a lot of work to get this set up fully, and we'll be under construction for a while, but I feel it is necessary for organizational purposes and for cleanup efforts. If you choose not to run the task force, all you have to do is tell me. But I think you'll like it, so enjoy the task force. Red Phoenix flame of life...protector of all... 01:38, 5 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Also, given that we have a new Sega Barnstar designed by Cradel, do you think you could remake the barnstar you gave me using the new barnstar? Sorry if it is too much trouble to ask, just thought I would. Red Phoenix flame of life...protector of all... 02:57, 5 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

The goal of the task force is to get all articles within the task force's scope up in quality in general. The higher, the better. There is no predefined goal. Of course, if you want to run any improvements by me, I'd be happy to take a look. I've done a lot of assessments with my 2500 edits, so I know what to look for in an article. Whenever you want to have an article looked at for class improvement, just take it to anyone else. You can't raise it yourself because that is a conflict of interest. This is why we have assessment departments. For the task force, the Sega Project Assessment Department (WP:SEGA/A) will function for the task force as well, as will all the departments of the Sega Project. Red Phoenix flame of life...protector of all... 12:30, 5 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
I would like the Blaze the Cat article to be the first goal by getting it to B-class.Fairfieldfencer FFF 13:30, 5 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
As good as that sounds, I think cleanup to Sonic the Hedgehog (character) is more important. Though the GAR is very slow right now, we really do need to clean it up and make it a worthy GA since it is the focus of the task force. Red Phoenix flame of life...protector of all... 18:10, 5 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Expanding the Task Force

edit

Hey, FFF. I don't know if you knew this or not, but we can mark what articles are included in the newly formed Sonic Task Force by adding tf=Sonic to each article's {{segaproject}} template. My favor to ask of you is for you to start marking the task force's articles with this. It's a parameter just like class and importance in the tag. Anyway, good luck with the characters. I know you have many character focuses, but I'd like to make the primary goal right now to make sure Sonic the Hedgehog (character) remains a Good Article. It is in horrible shape right now. As of this moment, I'm fairly inactive but I'm working on getting the Mega Drive article to FA and I plan to start working on the Genesis games articles (I'm used to saying Sega Genesis, it's what we call it here in America) and improving them. If you need my help with something, all you have to do is ask and I'll be helping you as soon as I can. I'll try to tag as many articles as possible, but I probably don't have the time. A good place to start with these tags is using the four Sonic templates at the bottom of the Task Force page to get the articles.

Oh, and did we ever get the merger concept set up yet? I'm going to do the merger, but I've got to work in some images (I couldn't do it in my sandbox, fair use images aren't allowed in userspace) and as for the other media, I'm going to just leave it for now. For the users, I'm going to expand every character's part about super transformation using that section from the super transformation article. Of course, you're free to help out all you want after I get this done. Red Phoenix flame of life...protector of all... 02:27, 7 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

You do know it takes 4000 edits AND a year's service to become yeoman, right? I probably shouldn't be a Journeyman; I've got 2500 edits from a lot of assessment but I didn't really start editing until January 2008 (I had an account and two edits since August 2007, and I used this as rationale for the 6 months necessary for Journeyman. No amount of cleanup will fix the fact that there are no reliable third-party sources about her (see WP:RS). The source you've provided is a primary source since it (apparently) came directly from Archie. Don't get me wrong, I like the Sonic comics, but there's no point in having a big, in-universe article about a character who isn't notable enough on her own, and should probably be merged to a relevant target. (A few other minor characters have already been merged to relevant lists, such as Nack the Weasel — this is pretty common procedure for fictional characters.) It's okay to use that profile as the main image because it's an official drawing of the character — the fair use rationale is just fine, so the image can stay. As for using conversations between the characters, that's still a primary source because it comes directly from the comic itself. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters(Broken clamshellsOtter chirps) 15:06, 11 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
A big problem with these comic book articles is that it's mostly uncited excessive plot summaries. Let's be honest, a lot of them are crap, like Super transformation (other media) (by the way, did we ever decide what to do with this?). Unfortunately, there's nothing I can do to save it unless some major revisions happen (read my comments on the AFD page for more). Task Force

edit

FFF, I've got a couple of pointers for you with the task force: when you invite people, make sure to extend their welcome to WikiProject Sega, if they are not already on our members list. Also, please encourage them to be active members of the project and use the talk pages. I mean, we are pretty much the only two members who use them (besides occasional pop-ins from Gaogier, Bridies, and Cradel, not to mention TTN, who isn't a project member).

I also wanted to let you know that, other than doing some work with Sonic the Hedgehog (character), I think I'm going to back down from working on fictional character articles including the Sonic characters. After reading WP:FICT over and over again, I've had some points to consider and I need some time to think, as my editing philosophy might be changing after rereading the guideline. I'll still work on the games articles when I have time and also on video game console articles (I got Sega Mega Drive to GA, it needs to go to FA and the other Sega console articles are mostly crap), and maybe more band articles (Crush 40 was such a success story for me that I think I can duplicate the success with other articles). But more or less, I'm working on things which have no fictional perspective (consoles and bands) and less fictional perspective than characters (games). I'd like to encourage you to read WP:FICT over again, too, because it is important to know when working with articles dealing with fiction.

This is part of why I left you in charge of the Sonic Task Force, because, although you may be misguided at times with sourcing and writing and knowing what is important, you are dedicated to the articles and you put a lot of effort into it. I'll still be around to lend a hand if you need it on character articles, but my philosophy is starting to stray from inclusionism to exclusionism on the character articles and I want to back down before I cause any damage leading to TTN winning the debate.

I'll be back online in a couple of hours, I've got some stuff to do off of Wikipedia. Red Phoenix flame of life...protector of all... 13:34, 13 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

lol looks like we got some help with the character stuff, TTN just got blocked for two more weeks for violating ArbCom restrictions again. See here Red Phoenix flame of life...protector of all... 14:43, 13 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Excellent news!

edit

Hey, FFF. Head over to WP:AN and find the section reviewing TTN. Then scroll to the bottom of the discussion (but not the subsection). It looks like the administrators are considering a "topic ban" preventing TTN from working with fiction articles. If this goes through, then we'll have seen the last of his merging - redirecting wrath. By the way, I'm looking for any real-world info I can about the Sonic characters, and I'll put it in the articles when I find it. TTN did help notify us of a problem, that we should "put up" by establishing it. But I think we can do it, so I'll get started searching for sources immediately. RE: Images

edit

Please don't orphan my images. If you would like me to find images of the other characters you want then I will, but don't delete my images without good reason. I'm pretty sure the only reason those images were deleted in the first place is because they didn't have the proper rationale which I will provide. Please respond on my talk page if you want the images.Fairfieldfencer FFF 12:41, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I deleted them because they weren't major enough. We don't need pics. of such minor chars. as those 2 when some articles don't even have the main characters. Villians like: Mephiles, and Black Doom were major villians (For one-timers that is.) ,and have no pics. They don't NEED pics but, they're MUCH more deserving than say: Egg Golem, and Behomith (Or however you spell it.)Skeletal_SLJCOAAATR_Soul_Striker_of_Vengence (talk) 20:26, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Regardless, the only good reasons for an image to be tagged or orphaned is because it doesn't have the proper rationale, the image is a fan creation or the article has too many images.Fairfieldfencer FFF 21:47, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Oh and I think those characters are unlockable by cheats or hacking, because in that image of Jet you can see Vector's face instead Jet's, so basically if they were intended to be in it Jet's face would've appeared.Fairfieldfencer FFF 21:40, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Where did you find this site anyway?Fairfieldfencer FFF 07:12, 16 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

The MASATOG images are hacks from the EU version of the game containing incomplete data. I also saw Omega as a ref. somewhere. I'll see if i can find it. But, all of those characters were intended to be PCs but, they're wasn't enough time to finish the programing data. If this MASATOG 2 rumour proves true, these chars. will most likely appear as PCs. The images of King Boom Boo, and Egg Golem, several articles removed pics. of chars. due to them being so minor.Skeletal_SLJCOAAATR_Soul_Striker_of_Vengence (talk) 04:40, 17 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

My Next Project

edit

Hey, FFF. Sorry about that whole discussion we've had at TTN's talk page, but unfortunately, as much as I didn't want to say anything to TTN, I felt that I had to. The comic articles have lots of problems (and I think most of that is due to the creator of many of these articles, Grandmastergalvatron.) Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to become a peon of TTN now. I don't like to delete or exclude if possible, but this is one case where I don't think we can fight it due to WP:PLOT violations and others. I'll help clean up as much as I can, and I definitely think E-123 Omega can stay as well, but it's just not going to work to keep them all.

By the way, I thought I'd let you in on my next project on Wikipedia. I'm going to take List of Sega Mega Drive and Sega Genesis games, List of Sega Mega-CD games, and List of Sega 32X games and try to get them to featured list status. I've got a couple sources for this: www.sega-16.com has comprehensive lists for all three systems, and a couple sources linked to List of Nintendo 64 games that cover a lot of systems comprehensively.

Anyway, I've been busy lately, but I'll be doing some work tomorrow. Also, I sent a message to VirtualSteve about Gaogier's block, so we'll see how that works out. Later, it's almost 2 a.m. here in Indiana and I'm very tired right now. Red Phoenix flame of life...protector of all... 05:50, 20 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

E123 Omega

edit

Could I ask why you reverted my edit to this article, an edit that was made to enable the article to conform to our non-free image policy? Black Kite 12:24, 21 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well Omega 12 should be kept on the article as it shows Omega before his design changes. Kind of like how you show actors when they're young.Fairfieldfencer FFF 13:14, 21 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
I strongly suggest you go and read our fair use policies, especially WP:NFCC#1 and WP:NFCC#8, before you restore them. Black Kite 13:22, 21 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Those images do help give an understanding of the article. Would you know the differences between his current look and previous one if you hadn't played those games before if the images weren't there?Fairfieldfencer FFF 13:29, 21 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Identical? His design has changed alot, read this section to compare. SectionFairfieldfencer FFF 13:31, 21 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
The last two images are (a) practically identical, and (b) pretty similar to the lead image as well. Any differences that the images show aren't discussed anywhere in the article and thus no understanding is gained (WP:NFCC#8), and even if they were could be easily explained in text (WP:NFCC#1). This is very clear image overuse (WP:NFCC#3a. I would also point out that you have made three reverts now. Black Kite 13:34, 21 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Read the link I just posted it is discussed in the article.Fairfieldfencer FFF 13:37, 21 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Which just goes to prove that it doesn't need the image if you can describe it in text (replaceable image - WP:NFCC#1) and also very few of the differences are even noticeable in the image. Now, you have made four reverts on this article, so I'd suggest you revert your last edit. Black Kite 13:47, 21 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

The discussion at WP:VG

edit

Hey, FFF. There's a discussion about Sonic the Hedgehog fancruft going on at the Video games project (which is where that Angel Island AFD came from), and I'd like it if you would join in on the conversation. We haven't handled the character articles yet, but here's the propositions: TTN has suggested seven character articles. I suggested eleven. With a little luck, you might be able to suggest E-123 Omega to keep his article, but you're the only real one who can argue that case, since I haven't followed that article extensively. Re: The Sega Project invitation

edit

Hello, and thanks for the invite. However, I must respectfully decline, though please allow me to explain. I have little time as it is on Wikipedia nowadays and do not feel I could cope with the mammoth task of stripping the Sonic articles of (what I see as) a huge amount of fancruft; it took me a surprisingly long time just to get the fairly short Sonic Chronicles article up to scratch. With regards to Sega itself and the project, I now have only a passing interest in the Sonic franchise. Having been a huge fan back in the days of Sonic 1/2/3, the series has continued to spiral from those dizzy heights and is a shadow of its former self. I had the misfortune of picking up the dire Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 for the PS3 as my first Sonic game since Sonic 3 & Knuckles, coupled to which I tend to find the remaining Sonic fans who have not abandoned the series are those that started after the Genesis-era, who revel in the cutesy world of Sonic's romantic interests and the hundreds of different irrelevant characters - some of the "characters from the Sonic series" articles really do show this attitude in spades - leaving the reputation of the series in tatters.

However, I look forward to Sonic Unleashed and hope that this will reverse that trend, which is why I maintain it. As I'm sure you've seen, some of the edits to that merely typify what I'm talking about. I'll continue to keep Unleashed well-referenced and hopefully up-to-date, but beyond that I can't really offer any help, though I do appreciate the invite. Keep vigilant with Unleashed, as you have been already. :) Regards SynergyBlades (talk) 23:52, 30 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks FFF

edit

Thanks for the cake, FFF. It's all right, I haven't had much time to do much lately but sit on my hands (I've had List of Sega 32X games tied up at WP:FLC but no one can do anything about it since there is some policy discussion going on about including Australia in all of this, which I can't source if it goes through.)

Anyway, it looks like the Sonic cruft discussion has gone cold. But we, as WikiProject Sega, do have the responsibility to finish it. Now, I hate to tell you this, but the comic articles have to be merged. There's no other option since most of them are violations of WP:NOT#PLOT, probably because many of them were written by User:Grandmastergalvatron, from what I've seen. As for the game characters, well, I'm still sticking to the 12 article plan: Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Dr. Eggman, Metal Sonic, Shadow, Rouge, E-123 Omega, Blaze, Silver, and Cream. Everything else, as I can see, deserves to be merged (speaking of which, there's a mess of lists we need to sort out of that.) It's up to you where to discuss this now: keep it at WP:VG or go to WT:SEGA or WP:SONIC. Just let me know, and we'll keep sorting this out. Also, before we delete/merge anything, we'll transwiki anything we can't use to http://sonic.wikia.com because they could certainly use it. Sorry I haven't been so active lately, but I've been out looking for a summer job and I'm still in limbo over what's going to happen with that. Red Phoenix flame of life...protector of all... 13:53, 4 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

We'll keep it where it is now but I think more merge tags should be put up, and that the merge should be mentioned in the next Sega Project newsletter. And boy are you right about the wiki. I've got an account on there by the same name and it's nothing compared to Wikipedia.Fairfieldfencer FFF 14:09, 4 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'm going to go ahead and stick some merge tags up on the lists and the characters. Can you help me with that? Besides, you could use the edit count boost, I know. Mark to merge what you can from Category:Sonic the Hedgehog characters, other than the twelve characters we've been talking about, into these lists:
Yes, the last one hasn't been created yet. Or you could mark comic articles (besides Sonic the Comic) to merge into the TV series and we rename that since many articles share between the TV series and the Archie comic in the articles. Red Phoenix flame of life...protector of all... 14:40, 4 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
I just got 4000 edits. I don't need the boost but I'll help out, (it might help get protestors against the merge). Oh, and don't bother with video game and Sonic X, they've been done already. Fairfieldfencer FFF 14:43, 4 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

If you don't mind, I would like it if you would be willing to come and support it, if you think it's worthwhile to add. I was planning on using it at the Sega Project if it gets ratified. Also, it helps to clarify the difference between Start class and B class, which really needs to be done, IMO. The vote deadline is on the 18th. Re: E-123 Omega

edit

Well, I took another look over it, and well, you're still looking at a B-class article, but a much better one (if C-Class was up, the last assessment would have been C-Class). If you want to get this article any better, I suggest you take some advice that would help with a GA-nomination, the next step up:

  • Find citations for everything. You must make sure that nothing could possibly be thought of as WP:OR
  • Editors generally look down on all-plot articles. It's true that WP:FICT appears to lack consensus as of now, but WP:NOT#PLOT is a guideline based off of what Wikipedia is not, and so it must be followed. Look at higher-level articles, like Link (The Legend of Zelda), which is an FA, for thoughts on how to structure a character article.
  • WP:SELFPUB says self-published sources are okay (which would include Sonic Channel and the video games), but they can't be used for notability reasons, and third-party sources are preferred. See if you can find more third-party sources, this will also help with any notability issues.
  • Read over WP:WIAGA for the GA criteria.

Hope that helps. Red Phoenix flame of life...protector of all... 15:13, 16 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

C-Class in the Sega Project

edit

Just letting you know that the C-Class was ratified today. I've already added C-Class support to {{segaproject}}, so articles can now be assessed as C-Class. For your convenience, I'm going to clarify here what the C-Class is about, since there's a good chance you'll probably end up using it at some point:

C-Class articles fall between Start and B. B-Class articles should now be used for articles either close to or improving to GA status. B-class articles with substantial tags (pretty much any, but a couple fact tags are okay) should be reclassed as C-Class. Basically, the standard for B-Class articles is going to go up, but the standard for the Start-Class won't be changing. The C-Class helps to fill in that middle gap and find better articles among the massive B-Class. Red Phoenix flame of life...protector of all... 02:32, 20 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

A big step for Wikiproject Sega

edit

Hey, FFF. Today, WikiProject Sega has made a big step: we've successfully promoted something to featured status. List of Sega 32X games, which I worked on, became a featured list today. Maybe this will help to increase our reputation around Wikipedia. Just thought you might want to know. Red Phoenix flame of life...protector of all... 20:25, 23 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Congrats. This guy who reviewed me said that if I was thinking of becoming an admin that I should write a featured article. I think this achievement improves your chances of becoming one.Fairfieldfencer FFF 22:20, 23 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hopefully it does. I'd certainly like to become an admin, and I think I'm the right person for the job, but I'm a little nervous about putting my name on a WP:RFA. If you ever feel like you're ready, I'd be willing to nominate you for adminship, since you're certainly a dedicated Wikipedian with good faith. Just remember that edit count doesn't measure the quality of your contributions, and it's what you do with your edits that makes you known. If you want, though, we can work on another list together and co-nominate it. I've got a couple in mind that we can fashion after List of Sega 32X games. That would give you some featured contribution, and I was about to start on another one anyway. Red Phoenix flame of life...protector of all... 04:19, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Why are you nervous? It's not like your nominating yourself for something really important. You'll just be able to do more stuff than the average Wikipedian, and most of the things you do will be the same. Being an admin might even get the Sega Project noticed with an admin being in charge, (I think there are quite a few admins at WikiProject: Video games and look how well that's done). I'd be an admin, but I'm not as familiar with the rules of Wikipedia as you are. In all honesty though; I'd don't see what's the big deal with being an admin. It doesn't change what you do on Wikipedia. But if you do put yourself up for nomination I'll back you up.Fairfieldfencer FFF 13:21, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
In all honesty there isn't anything big about being an admin, it's just the access to more tools that can prove useful at times. Jimbo Wales even says so, and I'm inclined to agree with him. But, at WP:RFA there are some editors who do frown upon self-noms. At RFA, the standard for "consensus for support" is about 70% of all who make comments. I guess part of my concern is that I'm not sure I'm ready yet, and that until someone shows me that they think I am, I won't be. Of course, that's probably pretty irrational of me. I'll just have to put my name on one here before too long. Red Phoenix flame of life...protector of all... 14:29, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Well if they frown on self nominees, when you think you're ready I'll stick you on there.Fairfieldfencer FFF 14:32, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Don't worry about it. It's just some users, but if I'm really ready, a self-nom doesn't matter. If I do nominate myself, I'll let you know so you can comment. Red Phoenix flame of life...protector of all... 16:17, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

It's not that I don't trust you - I do - it's just that that isn't good enough for an encyclopedic article. Until we can find a more stable (i.e statically linkable) source, it just has to be left out of the article. Wikipedia isn't about having the latest and greatest information, it's about having the sourced content in the article and if we can't do that because of the Flash, perhaps we should just wait until it hits the appropriate magazines or news sites. Either the way, the citation needed tags indicate that we do need a referencable source. Removing them makes no sense. SynergyBlades (talk) 17:48, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

It surely cannot be wise to include a reference that requires anyone who is independently verifying a source to jump through a minute's worth of hoops just to get to the information. It would certainly require a set of instructions in the cite itself which makes a mockery of citing using a web source. SynergyBlades (talk) 17:55, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Edit warring

edit

I'm sorry FFF, but I warned the other person and I have to be fair: You have been engaged in several edit wars on Miles "Tails" Prower, E-123 Omega, and others. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Please do not repeatedly revert edits, but use the talk page to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. If necessary, pursue dispute resolution. Cigraphix (talk) 13:46, 25 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hey

edit

Hey, FFF. If it's okay, I'd like to give you some constructive criticism here not related to your editor review. User:Jonny2x4 made a pretty nasty comment about you on WT:VG, and instead of you reading it and taking it as a direct personal attack (which it's at least kind of angled that way, but not really), I thought I'd give you some opinions here.

Anyway, I heard that you're touting about being head of WP:SONIC. Well, to be honest, I would recommend that you not force that onto people. Remember it's a de facto consideration, not really a power. Even though you treat me as the de facto head of the Sega Project, and I mention that a couple times, I don't really push it on to people. That's because technically Wikipedia is an open project and there are no "leaders" or "heads". Just remember that.

Also, I do recommend that you read over WP:FICT. I know you disagree with a lot of what it says, but to be honest it's a good barometer of how notability works for fiction articles. Though it may be notable in the series, on Wikipedia you have to presume that (for lack of a better term) a complete idiot who knows nothing about the universe of the series is reading the article. That's just the way it works. Also, I think a good reading over WP:NOT will do you great help.

I know what it feels like to be a fan of something and hate to see it go down the drain, but sometimes it's what's best for the encyclopedia. See why I quit working with fiction a while ago? It's just too much to get tangled into. Good luck with whatever you decide to do, and by the way I left a reply to you on my talk page to our previous discussion. Thanks for your time, FFF. No, you don't have to type it in every time. What you do is this: you go to my preferences, (not mine yours) at the top of the page, (or any page) and go to the little rectangular type box, then you erase what's there then type in your chosen signature, then press the tiny little box underneath that says Raw signature, a little green tick will appear and once that happens just click save preferences. Sonic character articles

edit

Please stop trying to add the information back without any sort of backing. The current consensus of the project is to remove cruft from these articles, so that is how this is going to be. As I explained to you awhile back, this is happening, so please be prepared to get used to it. I really suggest moving to a Sonic or Sega wiki if this is really that unbearable. TTN (talk) 17:30, 1 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

I already added one at A Man In Black's talk page.Fairfieldfencer FFF 18:03, 1 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
How exactly are you and your "not 100%, but still on the same page" friend a consensus that nullifies the long discussions on the video game project? The discussion has already happened and the result was to remove cruft. Now, we're just discussing what to do with the leftovers. Please, please, please, just use another wiki. This is not the site for you. TTN (talk) 18:16, 1 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hold on. Just because he doesn't move on the same boat as you, that doesn't give you the right to tell him to leave. Kid, I know you hate what's happenin', but what's done is done. This is the consensus. You can still stay here of your own free will, but how about you help out around here instead of fighting with them on this. And to TTN, be more civil to your speech. You should be more polite to him, not telling him to "GET OFF AND GO TO ANOTHER WIKI." Even though the wikia should be the place to go, this is still the encyclopedia that he should put his best in to contribute. He should just read over the rules and discussion a bit more, that's all. ZeroGiga (Contact) 19:00, 1 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
What does friendship have to do with it? I have confidence from previous discussions that Dylanlip is on my side, and is willing to support me through this. And thanks for reminding me to take that off. And just because you don't like me being here doesn't mean I shouldn't! I have done good work here, and someone needs to separate the fact from the cruft, and I'm just the man for the job. And you saying my edits aren't in good faith and all that stuff, and that I shouldn't be here is practically a personal attack.Fairfieldfencer FFF 18:19, 1 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
The point was to emphasize that your "new consensus" consists of two likeminded people, who already participated within the discussions, that fail to show any reasons as to why the ten or so people other people from the discussion and their arguments based upon policies and guidelines somehow fall below the aforementioned two people and their arguments based on pure fan enthusiasm. You essentially live and breath cruft when dealing with these articles, so you are certainly the last person to be qualified to do it. People that can break away from their passions are more suitable for that. TTN (talk) 18:29, 1 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
And experts on the topic at hand are the best choices to separate fact from cruft. oh, and make that 3.Fairfieldfencer FFF 18:34, 1 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'm not saying all those things are nulified. What I'm trying to say is the articles have been cleaned up in wrong way. Essential information was burned when the articles were cleansed with fire.Fairfieldfencer FFF 18:47, 1 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Agreed. Excessive plot information and useless stuff, such as an excessive list of video game appearances have to go, but isn't this taking it a bit too far? And "cleansed with fire" sounds like something that a Nazi or terrorist would say, don't you agree? (This is not uncivil. It's the line that bothers me. A simple "clean out the cruft" would do.) ZeroGiga (Contact) 19:30, 1 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Whoa. I got lost reading this argument after "I already added one at A Man In Black's talk page." I know this is none of my business but what the heck are you guys arguing about? Unknown the Hedgehog 20:29, 1 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
The recent and unconstructive edits to the Sonic articles.Fairfieldfencer FFF 21:10, 1 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Oh, and it was A Man In Black who said burned with fire. I said fictional power mad dictator, but Nazi works too.Fairfieldfencer FFF 09:39, 2 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I was actually talking to AMIB. And by the way, I don't actually mean to call him a Nazi (Seriously, I'M NOT) but the cleansing with fire stuff actually scared me. No offense to anyone here. ZeroGiga (talk) 19:13, 2 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re: What's up Dok

edit

I've been maintaining a low profile, waiting for a lot of issues with Wikipedia to be sorted out, wikipedia is becoming an online variant of the dusty books, and I just want to wait and see what is actually allowed to be written about subjects (soon, I'm sure Video Game Article will contain nothing other than a list of who made the game, and what console it was first on!), and I was getting involved in to many fights with editors who fight dirty (hidding behind the rules) and refuse to see wikipedia as anything other than their personal site! I still do a small spot of editing, and I am hoping to come back to wikipedia soon (though most of the information that brought me to wikipedia, both as a reader and editor, are long gone, and on a Wikia somewhere, the web address of which I will never find), so to sum up, I was taking a brake from Wikipedia before I was tipped over the edge, but am coming back! Lol, and thank you for the censorship of 63.228.61.25's comments!  Doktor  Wilhelm  01:08, 4 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Excellent! Thanks, FFF. Looks like once again we'll have three actives around the Sega Project, and a great friend to us both back at that. {{User Sonic TF Head}}

edit

I'm not trying to be a dick here, but FFF, I'm going to ask you to get rid of that userbox. What you're doing is being pompous and arrogant with it. See, on Wikipedia, there's no real "leaders", but it's all done by consensus and people working together. You being head of the Sonic Task Force is a de facto consideration, meaning that it's by practice and custom, not by law. I would rather not see users get such a misconception that it's de jure (by law). This is why I don't do this with the Sega Project; it belongs to everyone that's in it, though I'm treated by you guys as the de facto leader. I'm not telling you to do this, as I don't have that right, but I'm just asking you. Red Phoenix flame of life...protector of all... 20:31, 4 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

I guess you don't want one then. Sure I'll delete it, problem is I don't know how. Until i figure out how I'll remove it from my userpage.Fairfieldfencer FFF 20:33, 4 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
First off, I've moved it to User:Fairfieldfencer/User Sonic TF Head so it's out of the template namespace. This is at least a little better. Now that it's in your userspace, you can have it deleted per the criteria for speedy deletion. Just put {{db}} on the page, and an admin will delete it shortly. Sorry to hit you with that, but I'm doing this for your own protection; remember the accusations you got in the first Sonic cruft discussion? I'd rather not have you flaunt this and let people rip you apart again. Red Phoenix flame of life...protector of all... 20:40, 4 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your consideration. I have proposed it for deletion. I guess I was getting a little too proud of myself. But I'm pretty sure the only reason you chose me was because there was no one else. If I fail as a leader at least now we've got the Dok to go in my place.Fairfieldfencer FFF 20:47, 4 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Not just because it was only you, but because I know you were willing to do it and you're a very determined Wikipedian, which is good. But I think you've just got to reread on Wikipedia policies and learn them more. I used to be a lot like you, very inclusionist and very disagreeable. But after reading the policies and studying better articles, I became more moderate and less one-sided (I'm a part of the Association of Wikipedians Who Dislike Making Broad Judgments About the Worthiness of a General Category of Article, and Who Are in Favor of the Deletion of Some Particularly Bad Articles, but That Doesn't Mean They Are Deletionists and not just for the awesome acronym that comes with it). The one key lesson I had to learn was things don't always go the way you want them to on an encyclopedia, and while you can make good points, you have to live with it sometimes. Here's an example: I put up this AFD a week ago, and it ended in no consensus, and I really don't like this list. But I have to live with it because of the AFD not going my way. I think you'll find out someday what it takes to make a good Wikipedian, and that's when you'll be ready to be an administrator, if that's what you're hoping for at some point. Red Phoenix flame of life...protector of all... 21:00, 4 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
You've done a lot of good, don't think that you're not without qualifications. You work a lot more than I do, and that shows in your higher edit count by over 1000 edits. You've even adopted a new user, something I've never even touched (though I'd really like to and I'm looking into it.) And from reading your communications with User:Mysterious Nazo, I must say you've done a great job with him. Sometimes I kind of think of myself as a mentor for you, but I really haven't done the amount you've done with Nazo. All I do is try to give you a hand every now and then, and though we work together well and used to agree on a lot, it seems we disagree on more and more every day as I progress to an incrementalist point of view. By the time you get this, I'll probably have made a "Relations Chart" on my userpage, just something listing works with the Wikipedians I've done (I may also stick it on my rewritten bio page, not sure yet). If you're interested, you can check it out. Anyway, I'll be around, as always. Later. Red Phoenix flame of life...protector of all... 04:45, 5 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sonic Task Force to fully activate after cruft discussions are over.

edit

Hey, FFF. At the end of the cruft discussions, I think we'll be ready to make the Sonic Task Force fully operational. Until then, we'll keep working with the discussions at WT:VG. The reason for the delay is that we're smack dab in the middle of all of this and this is not the best time to activate this. Once it is active, though, I would like you to help encourage the members of the project to use the talk page of the task force and work to maintain the articles. Also, I will give you some space to write about the task force (and more, if you like) in the newsletter. NPOV

edit

FFF, I'm sorry but you're views on WP:NPOV are flawed. To prove this I have to ask a question: If the article must take a NPOV on a subject where one party says it is notable and another says it is unworthy trivia, how do you cover both sides in a neutral way? By including the subject, the article takes the side of the party that says it is notable - that is not being neutral. This is why NPOV doesn't cover what makes it into WP and what doesn't - it only covers tone of article and coverage of sourced viewpoints revelant to the subject (like "should abortion be legal or not"). The viewpoints of "is it notable or not" are not relevant toward the subject, but toward the WP article covering the subject - there is also no source since WP cannot be a primary source. So NPOV doesn't cover the arguement of something being notable or not. Understand now? Cigraphix (talk) 15:51, 8 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Reporting admin issues

WP:AN/I is probably the best place to report issues you've been having with an admin, but you'd better go there prepared with specific examples of what you believe to be misconduct, or the results might not be pretty. edit

Hey, FFF. I've been away for a little while on Wikibreak so I could catch my breath and relax for a little bit. I'm probably going to still be on break for at least a couple more days to clear my head, but in the mean time, I was wondering what's new? Red Phoenix flame of life...protector of all... 16:16, 16 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Nothing much really. Still talking about the merge, CBFan is putting up a good fight against it. Doktor Wilhelm is going to try and help you write a featured article. I finally finished the List of Dr. Eggman's creations article, still a few things to clean up though. Here's the current version. User:Fairfieldfencer/Sandbox I made an article on another wiki. Here it is. Most of it I just copied from an old revision of Blaze's article. I uploaded an image of myself. And SLJCOAAATR 1, Sonic&Mario Fan and I are trying to help out the Sonic News Network. I uploaded my work on E-123 Omega on to there as well.Fairfieldfencer FFF 17:44, 16 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Wow, you've done a lot of work with that list. A suggestion for it: even if it's later deemed unsuitable for Wikipedia (not saying it is because I'm not sure myself), then make sure to save it for Wikia because they could use that info. Heck, they could use it anyway ;) . Sorry that I have been on break lately, I just felt that Wikipedia was more work than it has been lately (and yes, I do it for fun, even writing Good Articles and lists are fun despite the source hunts and stuff). Hopefully I'll be back in a couple days after letting my head clear up. In the mean time, I've been playing video games like Phantasy Star Online and Phantasy Star Online Episode III, which, coincidentally, are made by Sonic Team lol. Anyway, I'll be around every now and then until I'm off Wikibreak, and then I'll be editing again. Red Phoenix flame of life...protector of all... 19:20, 18 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

...(sigh)...

edit

Why are some people trying to squeeze everything into one article lately? For example, they are wanting to squeeze every character (besides Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles) into the list of characters from the Sonic Series. Before, they got what they wanted and deleted the Echidnas article. At least we got to keep the Chao article. Unknown the Hedgehog 21:19, 16 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Not to sound rude but, are you there? I'd like to make a bunch of userboxes, and I don't want to annoy you for everyone that I want, and there's one that I'd like to make for Talon.  Skeletal S.L.J.C.O.A.A.A.T.R.  19:58, 18 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

When I make a userbox what I do is this: I go to a userbox I've already made, (try User:Fairfieldfencer/E-123 Omega), and I make changes using the preview button, so I'm changing it but not saving it. Then I just copy and paste to the link I've chosen, like when your making an article or redirect. So you would type in User:SLJCOAAATR 1/whatever, then just paste the info.Fairfieldfencer FFF 21:43, 18 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

To change colours just type in the one you want on Wikipedia. In the article you'll see little templates. On the templates is a thing called a hex triplet, or web colour. It's a sort of category for colours on the internet. For example: <span style="color: #007FFF">this</span> makes this. You'll want magenta since Rouge wears that colour a lot. Oh, and when your putting userboxes on talk pages or userpages, put this after them. {{clear}} That'll stop them from getting jumbled up. And you can also change colours like this. <span style="color:Magenta">Rouge the Bat</span> Rouge the BatFairfieldfencer FFF

Lessons for Talon & Person!

edit

Lesson #4

edit

Ok, we'll start out with external links. An external link is kind of like an internal link, but it leads you to another site. Example: http://sonic.wikia.com/wiki/E-123_Omega You can find the information at the top of the web page your on, or you could make a tab and hover over it to get the information at the bottom of the thing that appears. Now, there are a few ways you can do this. First the one I just did, which can be done by clicking the picture of Earth at the top of the edit window, but you can also put two of these at the sides [ Just one on each side though. And if you make a space after the information you can change the name. Example: E-123 Omega at the Sonic News Network. I want Talon to add a link to Mephiles the Dark on the Sonic News Network and Person to do one of Rouge the Bat on the same site. After that you can ask me what you want to learn. Oh, and please watch this page so you know when you have lessons.Fairfieldfencer FFF 11:31, 22 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for taking over Triple F. I appreciate it. They're gonna be great in your hands!  Skeletal S.L.J.C.O.A.A.A.T.R.  16:01, 22 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Lose the nowiki and you've got the layout of one. You just to add that information to something like this. User:Talon the cat/? Then you've made a userbox. Now try making a real one of something. And where it says id-s= 30, stick it down to 12, because that controls the size of the letters on the left.Fairfieldfencer FFF 16:41, 22 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Today we're going to make redirects. A redirect is when you're looking for something by one name, but the article goes by another name that means the same thing. Example: Sonic World Adventure leads to Sonic Unleashed. That's a redirect. Here's the basic layout of one: #REDIRECT [[Whatever]] Ignore the <nowiki>. You can also make one by clicking on #R at the top of the edit window. You will make your redirects in the following red links. /Talon /Person I want Talon to do one that leads to Sonic Riders, and Person to Sonic Unleashed. A note about plot details

edit

I'm not sure if you've read this or not, but it's a good read and will help:Wikipedia:NOT#PLOT (the plot summaries section). Excessive plot detail simply isn't how Wikipedia works. You may enjoy reading about all the game appearances for a Sonic character, but that doesn't instantly make it suitable for this site. I hope you keep this in mind before you say "you are wrecking the articles" again. Instead of saying things like that, calmly discuss things and realize no one is attempting to wreck things. It's a disagreement over editing. You might not get along with everyone, but that doesn't mean myself (AMIB, or anyone else) is completely wrong. Compromising and discussions (without people yelling at each other, and no more edit warring as well) need to happen, otherwise this will just keep going in circles. Yeah, it's pretty much a copyright violation unless you have permission from both Sega and whoever holds the rights to Artemis Fowl (could still be the author, or the rights could have been sold). Therefore, you're not allowed to make any profit from it, since they're not your ideas (combining them doesn't count). Red Phoenix flame of life...protector of all... 20:33, 31 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Oh, and an additional remark: the fair use doctrine is pretty complex and there's lots of exceptions, so I could be wrong. You'll have to do some research, since I don't know too much in this case. And really, Sonic as "Trouble" Kelp? Ooohhhkay, I wont say too much, then. Red Phoenix flame of life...protector of all... 05:05, 1 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

It's pretty much a flat out copyright violation. It's an unauthorized derivative work. Not only are you not allowed to make a profit from it, you're not even really allowed to publish it. That said, while it is technically a violation of Sega's and the AF author's copyrights, the likelihood that anyone would bother to sue you is extremely low, as you're not damaging their ability to make any profit or making any profit yourself.

That said, Wikipedia user space is probably not the place to publish fanfic. I don't care, others might. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 06:43, 1 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hey, FFF. I've decided to leave the Sonic Task Force and leave it to you to activate it. For a while I've asked to please keep it inactive due to all the issues, and the project wasn't really designed for battling out the character articles. It was designed to keep a maintenance on the Sonic games, characters, and other relevant articles in a way that Wikiproject Sega could not do because we had a pretty large scope as it was. I can see, however, that it hasn't turned out that way. Just do me a favor and don't call yourself the head of the Sonic Task Force, since that's not the way it works. Wikipedia is not a bureaucracy, after all. It also makes you look arrogant and like a jerk (no offense to you, of course.) Hey, FFF. Sorry I've been a little slow the last few days, but I've had a bunch of stuff to do since I'm going back to college in two and a half weeks to start my sophomore year. Anyway, let me see what I can do here to explain some things and talk this out (and given that I was an admin candidate once, I've read up on enough stuff while working on that that I think I should be able to help out some). I'm also busy with the Sega Project logo since someone deleted it for being derivative (and to be honest I was afraid that was going to happen, but I'm not the one who made the logo, Gaogier was).

But as I was doing this, the block was lifted, so that ends that. Let me know what else happens, I'll see if I can help out more in the future. Red Phoenix flame of life...protector of all... 22:23, 10 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I seriously doubt it for several reasons that the bio page would get me blocked. First off, I didn't reveal much, like my name. Also, I'm 18 and am legally responsible for myself. The bio page serves a purpose in giving something for people to read so they might understand my thought processes and why I argue for certain points, which is why it exists. Sorry about your userpage, by the way, I thought it was perfectly okay and that you weren't revealing that much, but I guess someone thought otherwise. During the whole time the page was protected: I saw no talk page posts by Dylan. Don't go around saying I have "awful cheek", when I usually discuss things, unlike what Dylan did. As for A Man in Black: he is a good editor and was making useful edits. It's not our fault, people don't want to understand policies. I personally feel a lot of this edit warring wouldn't have happened, if people would read policies and follow them. Holding a grudge against A Man in Black or myself isn't helping matters. RobJ1981 (talk) 00:49, 13 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I don't hold grudges. Just keep on my guard. And all the edits AMIB made were done exactly the same as Dylan's was: without notification. I'm not saying two wrongs make a right, I'm saying that AMIB is guilty of pretty much the same thing. Except he's taking away information instead of adding it.Fairfieldfencer FFF 07:57, 13 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I read one of your messages at the Sonic News Network and if you would like to be an administrator, here's the link WP:RFA. I hope you'll get accepted. :) Unknown the Hedgehog 21:04, 20 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

And to that I strongly urge you against it, sorry. I know adminship can seem tempting, and you know even I tried it once, though it failed mostly for a bad nomination which I should have realized was bogus (turned out the original nom was a sock of a banned user) and lack of experience. It's just a case of an unwritten standard as well as users who have criteria, which I find ridiculous but understand. You have some things working against you even more so than I did, though. For example, you have a history of edit warring and being what other users consider "uncivil" with them, and I cite the Sonic characters discussion for that. Also, though you've got a LOT of contributions, they're all within very little time and I got quite a bit of skepticism for just six months of editing, which is part of the reason I decided to wait until about October or November to try again. But I can help you out by providing you a few things to help you look for ways to improve. This tool will help you take a closer look at your edits. I'm sorry I have to ask you not to consider it, but I just don't think you're ready yet. Red Phoenix flame of life...protector of all... 03:07, 21 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

SLJ, I tried once but I don't think there's been enough time between that incident (if you read my old RFA that I linked) and now, so I'm waiting a couple more months before I try again. And I kind of jumped on the thought of adminship for FFF being on Wikipedia because Unknown linked the Wikipedia RFA page. I've also been semi-inactive with getting ready to move back into my dorm at college in a week, which hurts my chances now. While I'm on the subject, yeah, the way you guys argue is getting to everybody. That's part of why I abandoned the Sonic Task Force, because it seemed I was in with a group of people arguing something endlessly that I was not even arguing, as opposed to my original idea to create space to get things done. But I'll be around, always helpful, and if you guys have copyright concerns or anything else that needs dealt with, feel free to direct it my way and I'll help out any way I can. A Project Merge?

edit

As RP recently suggested to me, merging my SHC, and your TF. Since the TF has reached a halt, and the SHC has some work going on, and alot of the guidelines are the same, it may be a good idea to merge them into one, and perhaps will help get more work going. What do you think? (See my talk for more information) Skeletal S.L.J.C.O.A.A.A.T.R. Soul 19:04, 21 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well, RP bassically left you in charge of the TF, so, he told me to ask you. I'm still on the iffy side about it. Sonic Adventure 2

edit

I have removed these images from the article, as they are not directly required to increase the reader's understanding of the game. The policy here is WP:NFCC, notably WP:NFCC#3a and WP:NFCC#8. If the characters were notable enough to deserve their own articles, then a non-free image might be reasonable, but they aren't, so they don't. Please do not restore them to the article unless you can give a substantial reason how they meet the relevant parts of our copyright policies. Thanks, Black Kite 19:39, 16 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re: Newsletter

edit

Nice job with the newsletter, and thanks for the note. It's kind of weird how often I come back here looking for information on something, and sometimes I miss editing a little. But now I've got a part-time job as a referee for flag football (it's a variation of American football) for my university, class is started again, and I spend a lot of time playing an online game called NewAge3. Wikipedia just started to feel like too much work to me to keep up my editing. I only chose to semi-retire, which means I'm not gone for good, I just won't be trying to edit every day and doing a lot, so you can still ask for my help if you need it. I'm a little disappointed because I found out that shortly after I left, an article I worked on was deleted (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Powerglove, now a redirect) and I spent a couple hours finding the two sources I did and well, it wasn't good enough for them. Oh well, I guess, not my problem anymore, and I just started the article since someone asked for it. Whenever I come back on to check something, I'll be checking my talk page too, so if you have anything you need me to see and try to address, just let me know. You need to settle down

edit

First off: the video game project talk page is for anything related to video games, so don't go around making up rules that I shouldn't have posted there about the list. I know for a fact, if I would've just posted a section on the Sonic talk page: the only comments would've been by the regular editors of the article. Which would be basically you and your friends: and seeing as none of you have a problem with the list, everyone would've disagreed with me. With the video game project, I can get outside opinions by people that aren't just editing Sonic articles. I know your friends love to think you own the articles, but that's not true. I would rather have a consensus of more than just a few people, especially seeing as how the regular editors of an article don't control it any way. Secondly: settle down already, you take it too personally anytime something happens to a Sonic article, or the Sega project. I never said you were the bad guys. Perhaps if you understood Wikipedia rules better, then things would be different. You and your friends still don't understand Wikipedia, which leads to problems. RobJ1981 (talk) 19:41, 26 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

You don't seem to understand rules yourself, the rules of common decency. Like making major edits to articles without notification, and being sneaky by turning to WP: Video games. My friends and I follow rules like that. You admins don't seem to. My fight isn't about Wikipedia, it's about human morals and things like that. If a bunch of people made a story, and you didn't like something about it and decided to change it without their permission, you'd probably get yelled at, or your head would get bashed in, and in doing this you ruin it for all the readers, showing no concern for anybody but yourself and the rules and policies that are changing like the seasons. That is what I do here, try to make this more than a God damn wiki, I'm trying to make it into a community of respectable people instead of arrogant burks like you admins. Nothing personal with you, Rob, but most of my experience with admins has been similar to that.Fairfieldfencer FFF 19:56, 26 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
First off, I'm not an admin. Going to the video game project isn't sneaky at all. Asking for more opinions on the matter (rather than just the regular kids that don't understand what belongs in articles most of the time) isn't a crime. I don't need your permission to edit Sonic articles: you don't own them. Regular editors of articles don't own them either. You just proved my point further: you don't understand Wikipedia completely. I take your comments as offense, so I suggest you do not attack me again. You have ownership issues over the Sonic articles, and it really needs to stop. RobJ1981 (talk) 20:14, 26 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
I don't own anything. Nobody really owns anything around here. If you posted the issue at the Sonic Chronicles talk page it still would have been open to the public and seen by all. Last time I checked, going to someone not involved who you know will agree with you to get your way, is just a little bit sneaky. It was not an attack I gave you. It was my own experience with people like you. How do you expect people to find about characters by looking at a game, if none of the characters are there?Fairfieldfencer FFF 20:19, 26 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
You posted this in the discussion at the video game project: Like you coming here to avoid the consensus by the people who have put all their hard work into this article, you act as if the regular editors of the article determine how it is and no one else can. Asking for outside opinions isn't sneaky, so get over it. Regular editors of the article aren't the only ones that can have views on how the article should be. You are claiming ownership, because you act like no one can discuss the article except the regular editors. I never said remove the whole list, but the non-playable list is clutter and trivia at best. Look at just about any good video game article: you wont find non-playable lists. Some of the characters might be discussed in prose, and others wont be listed. Wikipedia isn't the place to post every character in each game. I have every right to post Sonic discussions on the video game project, you don't need to take offense to it and you don't need to make false claims about it being "sneaky". RobJ1981 (talk) 20:32, 26 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
Okay! That's it. BOTH of you need to calm down.
Triple F, Rob does have a point of you having a bit of owership issues (No offence, you know I'm there for you), and it isn't that big of a deal for Rob to have gone to the VG project. You're just upset, because, you think that an article that you've put alot of hard work into is going to get thrown about, and torn apart. Now, Rob, I can't entirley blame Triple F. I'm kind of in the middle. I don't want to start anything again, here, but, you have made comments of my assumptions, while you've done the same on a few ocassions. I haven't seen a "Policy over rules consenus" rule like you once stated. A consenus should ALWAYS take place before major changes. This isn't directed at you, solely Rob, but, all of us, including myself, Triple F, and others. We've all done our fair share of going about with major edits without discussing it first. You're smarter than tat, Rob. You're better than that. I know that. You really should've talked it over at the Chronicles talk, or the VG Project before you removed the list. And remember to realise that the game JUST came out in some regions today, and a few more in a few days. Game articles always go crazy at times like these. You should've just waited a week, or two while we all get everything sorted out. I believe that even the Super Smash Bros. Brawl article went crazy for about 2 monthes, and I don't recall anybody going around like this. You didn't go the wise way. You're better than that, Rob. More of a chance to improve needs to be given to articles before doing such things, and the person who wants it improved (You in this case.) should actually try helping out with the article, instead of dishing it out on others. Don't take any of this the wrong way, either of you. Cause, in this situation, I'm against what both of you did. Triple F, I'm very surprised at your blowout. Yu usually keep things calm, and steady, and just deal with issues like this. Rob, I'm also afraid that sometimes you do take things a bit too personally, and at times it just seems like you're trying to draw the bad out of some users to get them out of the picture, so that you can do as you wish. I'm not saying that is what you're doing, but, what it seems like sometimes. So don't take it the wrong way, and we all need to calm down, and think of other people's opinions on an articles well being before making big changes without consenus. So nobody be offended by this, and just go on, and try to respect each other, and the articles. Okay? Later everyone! Skeletal SLJCOAAATR Soulsor 21:44, 26 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

References

edit

You've been around a while now, so I'm surprised to see you don't appear to have grasped the nature of what's acceptable as a reference on Wikipedia. Adding an image as a reference really isn't acceptable since you are interpreting this image for yourself. I'd like you to read up on Wikipedia:Reliable sources, particularly the sub-section Primary, secondary, and tertiary sources and the sub-section of No original research that it links to. With regards to primary sources, for example the image you posted, [Primary sources] should not be used for interpretation or evaluation; use the interpretations and evaluations of reliable secondary sources for that purpose. To be precise, you've posted an image on a Photobucket account - aside from the fact that a Photobucket account could go down any minute, where in the image does it say Shade is an Echidna? How is a non-Sonic fan supposed to verify this? They aren't, and all they are relying on is your interpretation (remember SLJ's Angel the Hedgehog on Chronicles that was added after he watched and referenced a YouTube video?) As I say, please have a good read through and try and approach these things from an encyclopedic standpoint, as well as from a non-Sonic-fan one, which might help you understand further. I realise it might be the excitement of getting the latest news into the article after you've heard from any old source, but bear in mind that Wikipedia is not about the latest information, it is about verified information, whether it means we have to leave things out or not. Thanks for reading. SynergyBlades (talk) 17:35, 27 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Very well, you receive my apologies - but perhaps if you consider the above, you'll know to take out the dodgy reference next time. ;) By the way, I agree about leaving that reception table in there - if it's good enough for featured game articles, I don't see why it's not good enough for Chronicles. I will get back to you about the offer. SynergyBlades (talk) 17:50, 27 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'm a bloke. :P I'm also not totally convinced the project's scope can't be covered by its parent, the Video Game project, and can understand why a task force would be more appropriate, but I'll wait and see what happens. SynergyBlades (talk) 18:13, 27 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Taking it seriously? It's the exact opposite, actually. I know I don't want to get into this, which is the reason for my leaving: I don't want to take this too seriously. Besides, I'm not active enough anymore to make a difference to the project, and there have been times where I haven't liked how Gaogier runs the project. But oh well, I figure that if I'm going to edit for fun a few times, then I'm going to do it with a fairly clean slate. In fact I've been considering taking the opportunity just to WP:DISAPPEAR and resurface later. It's an interesting experience to disappear, since you have the experience, the tools, and the ability, just not the reputation. I don't know when I'll be back, but the editing I've done recently is probably the only burst for a while, since I'll be back to being busy again here shortly (I just got a weekend off this weekend). And besides, it's not permanent, I'll be back someday. Red Phoenix flame of life...protector of all... 16:38, 5 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

About the project...

edit

I've kind of come to a realization lately that WP:VG is seeking to probably integrate all WikiProjects related to video games into task forces at some point in the future. This does make sense organizationally, and to be honest, we would have all of the capabilities that we would need from a task force position, since WP:SEGA/A is pretty much a joke and we don't have any other pages related to policy or anything else like that. So I guess I'm starting to see myself in support of the move, as long as Jacoplane doesn't get his MFD that he wants so badly and completely sinks the ship while it tries to float.

I would appreciate some comments reminding me of the points against the move, other than my "status quo" argument I made a short while ago. Thanks, Fairfieldfencer.

And P.S. if I can find the zest for editing articles again, I've got the time that I'm considering pulling out of retirement. Red Phoenix flame of life...protector of all... 03:36, 8 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Mostly I'm just having issues with my user page. What I'd like to do is create tabs/pages for my userboxes and WIPs so that they don't take up all the space on my main page, but it seems I'm having a hard time grasping the necessary steps to accomplish this. Any advice would be awesome. I plan on tinkering around with things a bit more once I have the time to see if I can figure it out. Thanks for asking. =) Garonyldas (talk) 10:46, 20 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your help. When I said WIP I mean Work in Progress, though I guess the proper term is article prototype. I'm still picking up lingo/syntax, so I'm sorry if I say something a little out of whack. I was originally planning on including my subpages as tabs at the top of my main userpage, but instead I just linked to them in the relevant section of my page. I appreciate the help, and as always, thanks again! I hadn't really thought about the personalized userbox. It sounds nice, but to be honest I wouldn't know what to put in it. I could probably use a signature, however I wouldn't know what direction to go with that either. >.< I'm pretty indecisive when it comes to things like that, unfortunately. Hey, FFF. Unfortunately, it probably won't be enough, and the reason for that is because of WP:FICT. Whether or not it has consensus (which it doesn't at the moment), the ideals for the criteria of fiction-related articles do. What you would need to bring the article back is a source that shows E-123 Omega's significance outside of the Sonic universe - something that is very difficult to do, I am sure. While that would guarantee security for such an article, info on the character's development and reception would also be a big arguing point in your favor, although I can't guarantee that that alone will keep the article. IGN blows, don't use it, Triple F. I use it. Skeletal SLJCOAAATR Soulsor 18:16, 9 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Just an enquiry to the Omega page at the Sonic Wikia you linked to in the Sega Task Force discussion; you aren't suggesting that you copy verbatim the article from there to here? The point of having more detailed, fan-like pages at Wikia is because over there, notability is more relaxed, and in-depth details on their topics are more encouraged. Even if it's well referenced, there's too much in-universe detail to make an encyclopedic entry from. SynergyBlades (talk) 17:32, 11 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'm afraid I can't help you there, FFF. What they are asking for here on Wikipedia is significance outside of fiction period, apologies for the confusion. For example, what about Sonic can be said about how he was developed or received by fans? Can you say anything at all about E-123 Omega that is relevant outside of fiction? That's the real question that is to be answered. And I saw about the task force, too, and I'm not disappointed at all.
Also one more thing I thought I'd let you know: it looks like I'll be able to play Sonic Unleashed after all since I finally got a new game console, an Xbox 360. Can't wait to try it out when it comes out. Red Phoenix flame of life...protector of all... 23:52, 11 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Invitations

edit

I'm going to respectfully decline the invitations to the Sega and Sonic task forces; the former, due to lack of knowledge or interest in Sega as a whole, and the latter to lack of enthusiasm. On the whole I don't feel it would be that useful joining a task force about a subject I don't feel particularly interested or involved in, or have a decent breadth of knowledge of when I'm only particularly interested in the early Genesis games and in examining the state of the series of late. That said, I'm quite happy to offer the Sonic task force any help or advice I can, as I know there's quite a task ahead to get some of the pages under the task force's scope up to par. SynergyBlades (talk) 19:15, 30 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

When it comes to actually being a part of something I prefer that it's something I care about, like the Silent Hill task force I'm on. I just happened to be there when the Chronicles article needed it, really, and having actually had a fair crack at it I was interested in seeing it through to making it a decent article. Sure, I'll keep doing what I do on the articles I choose, but it just doesn't make sense to join, as doing so would (as far as I am concerned) suggest to others I have an active interest in improving Sonic articles beyond the few I've had some involvement in, but to be frank, I don't. Unleashed: Cast help

edit

Greets Triple F, do you happen to have a source for the cast of Unleashed we could use? It would probably be best to turn the table into prose for information on the cast/voice actors (see good or featured articles, eg. BioShock, Gears of War), and a source is probably going to be needed for this. SynergyBlades (talk) 00:46, 3 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Interesting you should mention IMDb, cos I have used it in the past for a GA (Uncharted) and there's some mild consensus for using it at a suggested policy page (Wikipedia:Citing_IMDb). However, its acceptance of user input shows itself up; the IMDb entry lists Pete Capella for the Chip character (someone has submitted it as "Chip the Dog", which I've read is not correct), and User:Yashouzoid claims from the credits of both Unleashed and Night of the Werehog that it's actually one Tony Moreno who does this voice. SynergyBlades (talk) 18:19, 3 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Can't find anything on this Tony Moreno fellow, but if we start conjecturing about it being a pseudonym we begin venturing into original research territory (as if trying to decipher IMDb wasn't bad enough!) I don't know, bit of a tricky one, this. SynergyBlades (talk) 00:15, 4 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Another thing I'd intended to point out was that recent indications in WikiProject:VG state we remove Japanese release dates from infoboxes as this is the English-language Wiki (I happen to disagree on this point as I think it does well for real-world info, but, consensus and all that). Extrapolating from that I suspect we should probably do away with the Japanese voice actor list too, or at least when it comes to integrating into prose, give it brief mention but not detail individual actors, unlike the English voice cast. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Eddie Crane.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Eddie Crane.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Omega

edit

You can, but again remember how we gun for reliable, third-party sources in preference. On the contrary, this is first-hand information. Given the state of the article as a whole you might as well ask for an explicit confirmation of his future appearance and use that as a reference, but note that others would probably object to that, and in order to get it to Good List status you would need a third-party source. I know getting one that passes verifiability and reliability would be unlikely given the subject matter - I note you've had trouble finding as such for the Omega article before - and I think that the fact that this is so difficult actually demonstrates that the answer to the question, is this information really encyclopedic enough to be included, might just be "no" in this case. SynergyBlades (talk) 18:07, 17 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

You are again missing the point. It must, must be verifiable to Wikipedia's standards. Wikipedia isn't your typical encyclopedia precisely because anyone can edit it; in real encyclopedias trust is placed in their editors (as professionals) which cannot be done here, hence the rules on citations and references. Featured articles are intended to be a shining example of Wikipedia's principles, and by aspiring to featured article status in your editing, by remembering what makes them good or featured in the first place, you are ensuring that what you are adding lives up to these standards. I can see this being perfect for Wikia's article on Omega, but realise once again that this place is for a general audience. Indeed, the sooner you realise that the Wikia articles and the ones here will never be even close to identical simply because of the differences in standards and audience, the sooner you will realise that you can still make a decent section (or article, which I would wholeheartedly support if you found enough sources) that is encyclopedic and that you could still be proud of in its coverage by thinking about how you are informing and maintaining the interst of the general audience, unfamiliar with the subject - which is what an encyclopedia is about, after all. SynergyBlades (talk) 18:43, 17 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
I know you have, and like SLJ and GZERO I'm really impressed with how far you've come, and it seems you've really got to grips with how Wikipedia does its thing. That, I am not questioning. I just think in this case you are taking it a bit too far, because (a) it's a forum post and not a reliable site, (b) it's not third party (a minor point at this stage), (c) you are extrapolating beyond what is written in the contents of his post and (d) you don't appear to be considering the relative importance or intrinsic encyclopedic quality of the information you are adding. All that can really be written is that "Though no concrete information is available about any appearance by Omega in future comics, head writer Ian Flynn has stated he has "concrete plans" for the character". This is more neutral and has no crystal-ball gazing; it doesn't hint at any appeareance, or any likeliness thereof, as in your edit (he could just mentioned in a speech bubble for all we know). But again, I would question whether this on its own is actually interesting encyclopedic information that the general audience would be interested in - has Omega appeared in any other comics? If no, then this being his first is outing into a new medium is interesting, and I would encourage its inclusion (if that point about it being the first was referenced, it would help hammer your point home, and a third-party would likely mention this point, which is why I suggested it). SynergyBlades (talk) 19:12, 17 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

You achieved becoming an admin on SNN, and that's outstanding. In the time you've been there, the site has already improved tons. One little message like this, doesn't seem enough to contain anywhere near your awesoeness level, so, I'll end it here, saying there's still much more to say about a great person like you. Please update your status with WP:VG

edit

Dear WikiProject Video games member,

You are receiving this message because you have either Category:WikiProject Video games members or {{User WPVG}} somewhere in your userspace and you have edited Wikipedia in the recent months.

The Video games project has created a member list to provide a clearer picture of its active membership.

All members have currently been placed in the "Inactive" section by default. Please remove your username from the "Inactive" listing and place it under the "Active" listing if you plan on regularly:

Ideally, members are encouraged to do both, but either one meets our criteria of inclusion. Members still listed inactive at the beginning of November 2009 may be removed. You may re-add yourself to the active list at any time. Thank you for your help, and we look forward to working with you.

Happy Halloween!

Thanks for uploading File:Destructix.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:ZoahTSS.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading File:ZoahTSS.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stifle (talk) 13:26, 31 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

I need your help

edit

Excuse me sir, but I remember you from the huge discussion regarding the Sonic the Hedgehog character pages on Wikipedia, and noticed that you are an administrator on Sonic News Network, and I was wondering if you could help me with something. I am also somewhat active on the Sonic News Network under the IP address 173.217.198.219 and got into a bit of an editing war on the Eggman page with a certain administrator named Sonic & Scrab Master. It was a simple little trifle really, it was more about formatting a list than anything else, and it didn't get ugly, but Sonic & Scrab Master has banned me from editing, citing that I was spamming, which was clearly not the case. Not only that, but he deleted a message I sent him letting him know my side of the argument and refused to answer me back. Now, I can't contact him, or any other administrator, because, well, I'm blocked, so I can't leave messages on talk pages, despite the fact that the error message says that I can contact an administrator to get the ban lifted. Now, I would be much obliged if you can get me in contact with Sonic & Scrab Master or mediate this issue on my behalf. SNN rules for administrators say "Administrators should not use their administrator powers to settle editing disputes... Administrator powers should be use to help keep the wiki clear of vandalism, spam, and users who make malicious edits, but not for simple disagreements between users acting in good faith." Now I feel that the actions taken by this administrator were in clear breach of this, as this was simply an editing dispute and nothing more. I would gladly appreciate you input on this. Thank you!Rogue Commander (talk) 08:29, 19 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

The point of these edits was to re order a list. On Eggman's page, there is a list of his allies. On the list, it list the Eggrobo, badnik, and E-series pages. Now, I knew that there was an Eggman's robots page as well. I did some checking, and found out that Eggrobo was already listed on the Eggman's robots page, and that the badnik page had almost no info on it and was currently going through a discussion about whether to merge it with the Eggman's robots page anyway (there was also a link to that page on Eggman's robots page as well), so I decided to remove Eggrobos and badniks from the list and add Eggman's robots in their place, while keeping the E-series on the page via a note next to the Eggman's robots link. I also added Silver Sonic, Silver Sonic 2, and Mecha Sonic to the list as they were missing. Everything was fine till I notice not long afterwards (like a minute or less)that my edits had been reverted. I checked the history and found that Sonic & Scrab Master had reverted them without giving a reason. I thought nothing of it (at that point, I did not know he was an administrator) and simply reverted back. He re-reverted and I did the same thing. It was at this point that we finally began to give reasons for the edits. He threatened to block me, so I sent a message stating the reasons for my changes and even stated on my last revert that I would be happy to discuss the edits. I was shocked to discover that I was blocked soon afterwards, my message to him had been deleted, and he hadn't even replied. Not only that, but he blocked me under the ludicrous idea that I was spamming and giving "useless information". I was adding no information and was simply rearranging a list in a way that made sense. Now, I have gotten into a similar issue here on Wikipedia and it was handled politely by me and the other party through simple dialog, and I feel that this is a discussible issue. I feel my ban was premature and unwarranted.Rogue Commander (talk) 18:12, 19 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Liverpool F.C. wiki

edit

Hello, I am the lead sysop on the Liverpool F.C. wiki. It is a wiki dedicated solely to Liverpool F.C.. We aim to make the ultimate database for the club we all love. Since adopting the incredibly inactive wiki about a month ago we have greatly increased the article count and modernized it from it's previous state. The problem is there are not many active members on the site and we need more for the site to properly grow. It is well organized and on it's way to be a great site we just need more editors to expand. It is based on Wikia's network of wikis. Like Wikipedia it is free to use and the editing process is exactly the same. If you know how to edit Wikipedia you will know how to edit the Liverpool F.C. wiki. Now for the question you may be asking yourself. Why edit there? Wikipedia has articles on Liverpool. This is true. At the Liverpool wiki it is all about Liverpool. We allow editors to edit anything about Liverpool no matter how trivial. We allow edits on reserve and academy players, and even things as trivial as the fitness coaches for the year 2011. We also do not lock pages to registered users. That means if you have something to say about Steven Gerrard you can click edit and not view source and actually write something. I would love for you to come by and check the wiki out. Feel free to edit any page. Every time you click edit your ARE helping this wiki grow. Thanks for taking the time to read this! http://liverpoolfc.wikia.com/wiki/Liverpool_FC_Wiki --Coffeeclub213 (talk) 02:54, 14 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
