Women in Red

edit

Hi there, Fairouz, and welcome to Women in Red. As an active member of organizations intent on promoting women scientists, it's good to have you as a member of our project. I see you have already created a number of interesting biographies in French and now look forward to your first article in English. How about making a start with a translation of your Yasmine Amhis? It seems to me she deserves an article on the EN wiki too. As a new contributor in English, you might find it useful to look through some of our Essays, perhaps starting with our Ten Simple Rules. Please let me know if you run into any difficulties or need assistance. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 14:48, 2 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Dear @Ipigott, yes my next translation to EN will be for Yasmine. I have not yet done it as I found differences in the methodology/rules used in the FR and in the EN Wiki. But in general I have been well briefed and know what I should not do. So I will do my best. I saw also some articles missing "expertize" on the physics topics and references. So I can also help improve pages.
Best regards
Fairouz Fairouz (talk) 14:59, 2 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
Glad to see we are on the same wavelength, Fairouz. If you have any concerns about your Yasmine biography, you could send me a draft for feedback. The best name for your draft would be User:Fairoz/Yasmine Amhis. Let's see how it goes. I don't want to confuse you with too much new stuff but sooner or later you might be interested in WikiProject Women scientists. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 15:13, 2 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Congratulations on your first article

edit

Great start, Fairouz. After making a number of edits to take account of preferences on the EN wiki, I've promoted Yasmine Amhis to article space. When translating articles, even your own, for copyright purposes, when you make your first edit, you should mention the translation. I've taken care of it in a later editing comment and also included the translation template on the talk page. I've added Yasmine to the List of female scientists in the 21st century and see she was already included under the Jacques Herbrand Prize. You might like to link her from other pertinent articles or lists. I hope this is the first of many more. Let me know when your next draft is ready.--Ipigott (talk) 10:37, 3 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

A new article about Women Scientists (WikiWomenInRed): Parirokh Dadsetan

edit

Dear Ipigott,

Within the project https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Projet:Les_sans_pagEs/Femmes_et_sciences_cognitives_2023 I have "translated" Iranian psychiatric Parirokh Dadsetan page from Fa->FR. I know that she is tagged also in WikiWolenInRed. Would you like me to translate to EN ?

Best regards Fairouz (talk) 09:52, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, Fairouz, for your suggestion. On the basis of Yasmine Amhis you should be able to produce a useful biography of Parirokh Dadsetan in English too. I see from the French version that several of the sources are in English. When creating a biography in English it is important to mention awards and critical recognition but I think you will be able to achieve this. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 10:25, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Women in Red 8th Anniversary

edit
  Women in Red 8th Anniversary
In July 2015 around 15.5% of the English Wikipedia's biographies were about women. As of July 2023, 19.61% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women. That's a lot of biographies created in the effort to close the gender gap. Happy 8th Anniversary! Join us for some virtual cake and add comments or memories and please keep on editing to close the gap!

Hello @Lajmmoore, I have started a draft translation of an SF women writer:User:Fairouz/Floriane Soulas
Also I would like to create from scratch another page of another SF novelist, Auriane Velten:https://booknode.com/auteur/auriane-velten Her page in French does not exists so I need to create it first then add the English translation.
Both ladies are wonderful SF novelists that I appreciate a lot, I have read their more recent books, just Waow.
All the best Fairouz (talk) 08:06, 3 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hey @Fairouz the draft is a great start, but there need to be a lot more inline citations, there's no references in the biography section yet, for example! It's really wonderful that you're a member of Women in Red - if you need help, asking on their talk page can be really helpful too Lajmmoore (talk) 13:17, 5 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Lajmmoore, yes indeed. Not yet finished. Doing this step by step. When I think I am ready i will let you know. Cheers Fairouz (talk) 13:48, 5 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Oh that's great @Fairouz - i thought you messaging me to take a look! But now I get its just with enthusiasm! Top work! Lajmmoore (talk) 13:53, 5 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Lajmmoore, I have finished implementing the references to Novels, short stories and prizes. Remember this is a translation of the French page: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floriane_Soulas . Please check and move it to normal page if you wish. Thank you. Fairouz (talk) 12:55, 19 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Your contributed article, Fairouz/Floriane Soulas

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Fairouz/Floriane Soulas. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Floriane Soulas. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Floriane Soulas. If you have new information to add, you might want to discuss it at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. S0091 (talk) 15:44, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

sorry, it was a mistaken move. This page exists already and is published.Floriane Soulas
I need to delete it I believe. Fairouz (talk) 15:46, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
No problem! It appears someone else had the same great idea as you but got it mainspace first. It should be deleted shortly. S0091 (talk) 15:49, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
No that was my translation that I did for women in red. So after they checked it they published it. But I discovered this after I moved my page. So that’s fair. 2A01:CB1E:12:EB12:5D7:1021:EE7D:35B2 (talk) 16:00, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
That was my translation that I did during July for womeninred. I asked them to check it and they published it actually. But I did not know about the publication when I moved my translated page. That’s fine, I am happy it was published . Fairouz (talk) 16:07, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I am confused. Floriane Soulas was created by User:Nattes à chat, not you. Unless that is also your account? S0091 (talk) 16:29, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Well, I am totally disappointed too, see here: User talk:Fairouz#c-S0091-20240808162900-Fairouz-20240808160700, I created it June 30 and asked @Lajmmoore to check in July 19.
Then User:Nattes à chat, copied it and created it July 24.
How bad people are! I can't believe it.
I thought that the ENG version was better handled than the FR one. I will stop my contribution to Wikipedia. Fairouz (talk) 16:43, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Please don't quit. We might be able to figure this out and get the history updated if warranted. This was most likely a coincidence; not anything dubious on User:Nattes à chat's part so please assume good faith. This situation is not at all uncommon. Like I said great minds think alike.
@Rosiestep can you take look into this. Fairouz created a draft in Userspace on July 2nd about Floriane Soulas but didn't move it mainspace until yesterday (under title Fairouz/Floriane Soulas) but in the interim User:Nattes à chat created an article on July 26th. Both were translations from the French version. I can't see the deleted versions and not sure if a history merge is needed. S0091 (talk) 17:51, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
It took me time to make my own translation and finding the correct citation and references for books, articles, medals and prizes. Indeed, the published article is an automatic translation from the FR page which is badly referenced that I wanted to correct once the English version is published. I used my summer vacation time for that task. Anyway. Fairouz (talk) 18:24, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Then it may have been a mistake to delete your version. Don't worry, anything deleted can be restored but it will take an admin, which is why I pinged Rosiestep along with the fact she is one the founders of Women in Red and very active with the project. It may take a couple of days or so for her to respond so please be patient. S0091 (talk) 18:40, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hello, Fairouz. I'm traveling so I've asked others at Women in Red (see here) to review the matter. Thanks for what you do around here and happy editing! --Rosiestep (talk) 18:52, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hello @Fairouz I didn't have an opportunity to look - but I hope we can get this resolved. For what it is worth, this coincidence has happened to me previously - it's a shame but it's no reflection on you or your edits Lajmmoore (talk) 07:24, 9 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Sorry @Fairouz! it seems we were both editing the same article I am really sorry this affected you. Nattes à chat (talk) 18:33, 13 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
