If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Please also read this helpful advice for students.

Before you create an article, make sure you understand what kind of articles are accepted here. Remember: Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and while many topics are encyclopedic, some things are not.

Your instructor or professor may wish to set up a course page, and if your class doesn't already have one please tell your instructor about that. It is highly recommended that you place this text: {{Educational assignment}} on the talk page of any articles you are working on as part of your Wikipedia-related course assignment. Arthur Colborne Lankester

edit

I was delighted to discover that my grandfather, Dr Arthur Colborne Lankester, had been honoured by his own Wikipedia page. I would like to congratulate you and your colleagues on the large amount that you have discovered. Inevitably there is a certain amount that is wrong and there is a fair amount of interesting information that could be added. I can speak with some authority as I remember my grandfather well and I have also managed to find a typed copy of his autobiography and have had copies printed, together with illustrations. It will be a little while until I can respond fully for two reasons. I need to spend some time finding out how Wikipedia work and I am a little reluctant to interfere with what I understand is a university class project. My grandparents met while my grandfather was at home in England on leave. He had to visit the CMS HQ and met my grandmother, Alice Grace Fox, who was working there as a volunteer; her father, my great grandfather, was the Rev Henry Elliott Fox who was hon secretary to the CMS. You mention another great grandfather, Henry Lankester, He was a doctor and surgeon who became the mayor of Leicester. Jim462 (talk) 12:34, 27 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Wow, that is very cool to hear from a descendent. I assume your father was Mr Arthur Hugh? First, I apologize for any incorrect information; it was based on primary handwritten sources from the archives. Second, I would love to learn more about your grandfather and add more information to this page. I look forward to learning more about Dr.Lankester. Faizah01 (talk) 18:46, 27 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
Arthur Hugh was my uncle. ACL had 4 children - Arthur Hugh 1903 to 1998, Christopher Henry 1908 to 1990, Dorothea Rachel 1909 to 1991, and my father Stephen George 1917 to 1995.
Some major omissions are the fact that he established the mission hospital in Peshawar (which is still there) (Google Lankester and Peshawar) and that he had a 3 year tour as Director of Medical and Sanitary Services for Hyderbad. He returned to England around 1920 and became a partner in a medical practice in Purley near Croydon. He was a local councillor, a Justice of the Peace and a Lay Reader for the Church of England. Jim462 (talk) 19:13, 27 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
I should also mention that my uncle Arthur Hugh was also a physician and a surgeon; he followed a family tradition of studying at St Thomas' hospital. Jim462 (talk) 19:23, 27 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

January 2023

I moved Arthur Colborne Lankester to draft space after discussions with Jim462 about the need for more work to be done on the article given the errors and improper sourcing. You should have created it in draft space in the first place, and you have now unilaterally moved it back without going through the review process, and without addressing any of the problems with it. I do not think this was helpful and I would kindly ask you to reverse that so that other editors, including Jim, can work on the article over time, and so that it can be properly reviewed. Melcous (talk) 23:50, 2 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

It is not ok for you to keep moving this draft back to article space without any discussion with anyone, or any improvement, when other editors have agreed it is not ready. Please stop, and either work on improving the article or engage in discussion with other editors, or you may find yourself blocked from editing. Tagging Drmies who moved the article back to draft most recently. Melcous (talk) 13:49, 20 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thank you Melcous; I moved it back and protected it. Drmies (talk) 15:43, 20 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
