Fenian Hunter
Hi Fenian Hunter,
Thank you for your comments.
Firstly, I am sure that you will agree that it is appropriate to use kilometres since my base data is in kilometres. This is in line with Wikipedia's princpal of using the base units where possible. If you read my article on Driver location signs you will see why it is appropriate for drivers to be aware of kilometres. I don't know if you live in England (as opposed to Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland), but if you do and you drive, next time you go on a motorway look out for the driver location signs.
Now on to the mechanics of adding miles. I have deliberately kept the kilometre column as narrow as possible so as not to destroy the visual effect of the table as a whole. If you go to m6_motorway you might notice that I have pulled various coordinates out of the table at catalogued them at the end of the table. This was to reduce the width of the junction column. If I were to replace "246.7" with "246.7 km (154.2 mi)", just think how wide the column would become.
What about the future? The current measurements refer to the position where the secondary road that actually crosses the motorway. I foresee the possibility that at some time, it might be appropriate to list both the start point and the end point of a junction. If this were the case, then that would be repeated for both carriageways which would mean another columns. That would really make the table look cluttered!
As you can see, I have thought this through carefully and the addition of a miles column would add to the clutter without really giving very much more information.
Regards

Request reason:
This is a silly block, you are reading certain interpretations into my username which are by no means justified. The name Hunter is a surname and the name Fenian is an Irish national symbol. I see no reason for your action and request you reverse it immediately
Decline reason:
Username can be very easily interpreted as anti-Nationalist in Ireland, and given the edits of yourself so far it shows what could be determined as a pro-Unionist slant. As a result I don't believe the name is innocent as you claim. Canterbury Tail talk 11:53, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
