Mr. Prospector

• I'd like someone to confirm/deny that the change I just made to Mr. Prospector was "correct" or not. A user "Ki Longfellow" is apparently adding this 'generic' website they found to a lot of horse sites. I removed it from a page that I've edited a bit for consistency, and stuff, and noticed through that users contributions they did a bunch of these "generic site" changes. --Figgie123 minor edits by UtherSRG (talk) 16:29, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Inclusion of templates...

• Okay, I'm working on changing links that are just redirects (List of cities by population), and I've fixed Karachi and Bangalore to not be linked to Thirty largest cities in the world, but yet, the "What Links Here" [1] still shows them. I've examined the source, loaded them into vi, but yet, they are still there. Why? Do template fixes not fix "What Links Here" for an article that includes the template?     • Okay, Karache/Bangalore had a link (both through a template), to the 30 largest cities in the world, which was a redirect to list of cities by population. I changed the 30 largest cities links to list of cities by population, but looking at the what links here for 30 largest cities, still was showing Karachi and Bangalore. (Though, Karachie isn't there now.) Are the wikipedia caching servers holding this back for a few minutes before the update of the template to be refreshed in the caches? Click the HTML hyperlink in my first comment, and you see should what I mean...hopefully, at least. :) Figgie123 22:39, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject Red Link Recovery/Unlikely/brackets

• Howdy, I notice the above list has been completed. I normally gather up any 'bad' entries on these lists to help improve their next incarnation. However, no entries on the list have been marked up as such. Can I ask you as one of the people who worked on thelist if you noticed anything on it that probably shouldn't have been please?   • I'm pretty sure everything that was in there needed to be fixed. The majority of times, if not completely, was links that were missing the beginning or ending parenthesis on a link. You add the missing parenthesis, and the link was okay again. I was trying to come up with a way to create my own Linux/GTK-based version of AWB and try and find a way to "suggest" the appropriate missing parenthesis. Never got far beside my imagination. :) Figgie123 16:49, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

Adding sections to articles...

• I wanted to add a section to 2006 FIBA World Championship for Women to add the quarterfinal bracket, but I have no [+] (plus sign) at the top of my page to add a section, like I did to create this section in my User Talk. Is that functionality only at the User Talk area? I can only assume on of two things. (a) My preferences aren't correct (b) A recent change to Wiki software has caused this to happen. Any clarification would be nice. I didn't seem to find anything in my quick search of the Help on Editing sections. Thanks. Figgie123 20:55, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

The plus sign only appears for talk pages as generally speaking articles won't be expanded by appending new sections. (Things like External links will always be at the bottom, new sections are likely to be need within the body of the article). Adding a section is easy enough all the + sign does is put the title between == and the text beneath it.

e.g.

Orphaned non-free media (Image:HotTopicLogo.gif)

Template transclusion with parameters and ParserFunction interaction

I've tried to use a template with parameters as a statistical tracking tool, so that when stats are updated, they could be updated everywhere. My first incarnation outside of Wikipedia seemed successful, then I attempted to use the switch ParserFunction, and then my main page that transcludes it went wacky. Okay, so that could work for my example in a public environment, so I suppose for a private MediaWiki installation, I should go there to ask why this doesn't work just right. (BTW, from the IRC channel, it was suggested to remove all white space and line breaks, and then I added HTML comments to ends of lines and beginning of lines like Navbar or Navbox do. Seems to work, but my private MediaWiki installation is still having issues...) Figgie123 (talk) 20:45, 21 January 2014 (UTC)

You could set up mw:Extension:Wikibase Repository on your private wiki. Trying to do it with templates is just going to make an unmaintainable mess that will kill performance every time it gets updated. Jackmcbarn (talk) 20:47, 21 January 2014 (UTC)
