Archive page
So I finally figured out how to archive my talk page, since it was getting really big with all the image warnings. My thanks to User:5Q5, and his excellent step-by-step instructions. Hopefully, I didn't leave too much destruction in my wake! --Figureskatingfan 19:22, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
Sandbox
Hi,
Just a friendly note: sandboxes should reside in the 'user' namespace (that is, should begin with the 'User:' prefix). I have moved the sandbox you created as Figureskatingfan/Sandbox to User:Figureskatingfan/Sandbox and tagged the original page to be cleaned away by an administrator. Happy editing :).
Re: Maya Angelou
For a bio article, it's typically best to shy away from the subject's website. Although it can certainly be an external link, there's always the possibility of incorrect information or bias, which is much less likely to be found in a reliable, published source. Your second question's a little more difficult, since if it's important it will certainly be able to be verified, but if there's no way you can and it's likely to be challenged when you get it towards FA, then it's probably better to remove the information. Hope this information helped. Wizardman 19:29, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
Unless you're making the claim that her bio is full of lies (which would shift the burden of proof to you), the source citations I've provided will do to prevent your mass deletions.K. Scott Bailey 05:18, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
Of course I'm not claiming that; I'm claiming that as a source, it isn't reliable. At any rate, I answer this more fully on Dr. Angelou's talk page. --Figureskatingfan 05:21, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
- I just noticed further up that you were talking about this issue. I'm not clear on why the source can't be trusted as reliable. The details you cited that were contradicted were minor (1998 vs 1999 and so forth), and easily explained. This would lead me to believe that the bio on her site is generally reliable, unless we find blatant contradictions. What would YOU think would be a "reliable" verification of her bio?K. Scott Bailey 05:24, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
I apologize for the tone of my posts last evening. It was late, but that is no excuse for not assuming good faith per WP:AGF. Please accept my apologies for my tone. I have placed ref tags citing her bio. We can hash out whether the bio should count under WP:RS, based on the prestige of the author (she's not just some self-published blowhard claiming expertise) or whatever. The way I read WP:RS, though, a personal website is not ALWAYS unreliable, just USUALLY unreliable. We need to figure out whether Dr. Angelou's is or is not reliable before removing her degrees from the article.K. Scott Bailey 12:44, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (Image:Jeff concert.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Jeff concert.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 02:30, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
Maya Angelou
Yes hello, I am sorry I did not give you a reason for that. But Maya Angelou did not earn an emmy nomination for Roots. I really don't know where you recieved that information, but if you look up Roots and the awards it was nominated for and won you will see she was never nominated. jbill007 01:16, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
Blues Clues
- Hi, thanks for your message, SmackBot does not generally add tags, but merely dates those that are already there. However in this case it is clear the extraordinary assertion that "100% of preschoolers' parents knew about the show" is what needs citation, and I would suggest a direct quote, since it is patently hyperbole. Regards, Rich Farmbrough, 22:54 17 December 2007 (GMT).
- Answered on Rich's talkpage. --Figureskatingfan (talk) 18:27, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
- It looks good. There seems to be something funny going on in the block quote from Gladwell "..one of her paw uzzles--the audience that are thematically related.. " however. Rich Farmbrough, 14:57 19 December 2007 (GMT).
- I am in no way an official administrator of the site, and you can go ahead and change the rating yourself. The article looks much better than it did before, though. Great work! Waluigi Freak 99 (talk) 20:04, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

Blues Clues GA nomination
Hi! I took it off because it wasn't at the Good Article nomination page. I looked through the older nomination pages and it looks like you made an edit saying the article passed, when it in fact did not, nor was it ever reviewed. Next time just nominate it, and wait for someone to review it. It's going to probably take a while (GA Review has a bad backlog right now,) but soon you will see if the article passes or not. Thanks and good luck! FamicomJL (talk) 04:27, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
The Wiggles GAN
Welcome. Actually, that was a partial review because I have no time to continue yesterday. Anyway, the lead was improved and it sounds good. Good luck. (I might drop some minor comments soon, just a little) --BritandBeyonce (talk) 00:18, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
You're welcome for the review. Good luck in getting it upgraded! — Cuyler91093 - Contributions 22:27, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
Passed
Just letting you know I've passed this nomination. Don't think it was in need of any serious copy editing, it read coherently and was informative and referenced, and passed all the other GA criteria. - Zeibura (Talk) 23:37, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
- Yah! This is the first article I've significantly edited that went through the GAN process! Thank you for upgrading it. (Also thanked on Zeibura's talk page.) --Figureskatingfan (talk) 00:18, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
Tipping Point
Actually, syphilis is correct See this New York Times link. Tanthalas39 (talk) 15:40, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
- We're both correct. Syphilis in Baltimore is discussed earlier in the book (as referenced in the above NYT story), but in chapter 6, Gladstone talks about fighting AIDS in Baltimore as a case study. That's what this article is referring to, in the "Other key concepts" section. Perhaps the solution is to include Gladwell's discussion of syphillis in Baltimore, which he uses to introduce his Three Rules of Epidemics. I'll take care of it, as I have time. --Figureskatingfan (talk) 03:49, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
Your copyedit request
On 19 October 2007, you made a request to the League of Copyeditors for a copyedit on The Wiggles. Because of a heavy backlog and a shortage of copyeditors, we have been unable to act on your request in a timely manner, for which we apologize. Since your request, this article may have been subject to significant editing and may no longer be a good candidate for copyediting by the League. If you still wish the League to copyedit this article, please review this article against our new criteria and follow the instructions on the Requests page. This will include your request in our new system, where it should receive more prompt attention. Finetooth (talk) 18:41, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
Blue's Clues
I really hope more people can be recruited to that article because it is definitely going somewhere. In addition, I always think of those editors who spend their life on vandal patrol when they can devote themselves to an article instead (it is not like if they do not revert the vandalism that nobody will). Hope you are having a great time on Wikipedia. Parent5446(Murder me for my actions) 03:01, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the kind words. This is the second article I've significantly contributed to that has gotten to GA. In addition, this particular article was at one time so bad, it was downgraded from B to Start. That's when I took it on, and now it seems like you're saying that it has FA-potential. Is that what you're saying, Parent? 'Cause due to the feedback, I'm thinkin' that it's too short or that it doesn't have enough references. I was beginning to think that the most we can expect from it is A-status. Anyway, thanks for doing your part, you sure are smart, you can do anything that you wanna do! ;) --Figureskatingfan (talk) 06:15, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Congratulations on getting Blue's Clues to GA status. It was my pleasure to nest the WikiProject Templates on its talk page. The scope of the Dogs WikiProject, which covers anything related to Canids, does include fictional dogs in any form of media.Coaster1983 (talk) 07:46, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
Hey there - can you please clarify how this is a free image? Thanks, dihydrogen monoxide (H20) 08:55, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
Hi, the owner, who probably doesn't know any better, assured me that it was. Of course, she's mildly scarily-obsessive about Jeff enough to run his fan page at MySpace. I mean, I think Jeff is cute, too, but she's downright weird about it. She has great pictures over there, though, and she's been over-the-top generous with them. I don't want any appearance of non-free images (look at my archived talk page, and you'd see how I learned), so I'll look for something a bit more obviously free. --Figureskatingfan (talk) 23:35, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the note. I link to the MySpace page, or some other proof that it's "free", would be good. dihydrogen monoxide (H20) 08:58, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
Re: Blue's Clues
Sorry I didn't get back to you about your comment. I was temporarily using a beta version of firefox that had a bug which messed up the interface. However, all is well now. This article does have FA potential. The only problem is that, unlike me, people at FA nomination don't take shorter articles as well as I do. It just needs a little bit of expansion and possibly some references. However, don't let these problems weigh down the article. It does have potential. I wish I could work on it myself but I am currently working on Aang, which is seriously stuck at B status. Good Luck! Parent5446(Murder me for my actions) 22:33, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

I wanted to ask if you could just please vote in support for the Aang article at the Wikipedia:Article Collaboration and Improvement Drive. It does not really need that many more votes but more votes does no harm. I would really appreciate it.

Major Problem
The Blue's Clues article does look like it can go FA. Or at least in my eyes it does. There is only one flaw with the article that needs to be fixed: the references section. The citations need to be changed from the Author, Page Number form to a normal citation. If not, then at least a Bibliography needs to be added. See the nomination for more info. I'll see what I can do about it. Parent5446(Murder me for my actions) 14:29, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
FAC
Well, the nomination does not seem to be going well. However, you are lucky because there has so far only been one problem mentioned: copyedit. Try and look for somebody who will copyedit the article. I'll look too. After that, then it might pass the nomination. Parent5446(Murder me for my actions) 19:26, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
On The Wiggles
Hi. Sorry to see the article not promoted for FA. Do not worry. You'll get the star anytime soon. Just try a re-PR or anyone here who have a good hands to copyedit it thoroughly. Luck! =) --Efe (talk) 09:02, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
Efe, thanks for your kind words. I'm not surprised The Wiggles didn't make it; it's not quite ready. I'll give it some breathing room, get it copyedited again, and try again in a couple of weeks. This is the first article I've tried to direct towards FA, so I'm learning a lot about the process. I appreciate all your help and mentoring. --Figureskatingfan (talk) 10:53, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

This site pays anyone to write articles on any subject. The writers are paid by the numbers of visits their stories receive. Thus it qualifies as both self-published and spam, as they have clear economic reasons to create these links. This is the full reason I removed it in the first place. If there is no source to back it up, it should not be included. Stealthound (talk) 17:34, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
- I appreciate the input; this is something I was unaware of before I read the policy (Admin Noticeboard). I think the discussion makes a good case for blacklisting AC, so I'll make the changes to Greg Page. I'm a relatively inexperienced editor, so I require the continued tutoring of more experienced editors like you. --Figureskatingfan (talk) 20:03, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Hiya, and thanks for your message. I've upped it to three months, but really don't think that the vandalism is heavy enough (that's the "borderline" bit of my comment) to merit indefinite semi-protection. There's always a toss-up between protecting the article and stopping those who would seek to edit it constructively - in this case I admit that it appears few of the IP contributions have been constructive, but let's give it the three months and see how things transpire afterwards. Vandals tend to get bored and move on....! GBT/C 09:01, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
Image copyright problem with Image:Get Ready to Wiggle.ogg
Thank you for uploading Image:Get Ready to Wiggle.ogg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 16:50, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
FA expert
Hey Figureskatingfan, Just wanted to give you a heads up, I have invited H20 to take a look at The Wiggles. He has written 8 FA articles and significantly contributed to 7 others. This user is from Australia and is part of the Australian Music portal. We'll see if he can help you get this article over the hump. Also, don't renominate it without mentioning it on the talk page first ok?Balloonman (talk) 19:33, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
- Will do. And thanks for asking for H20's help. Actually, thanks for everything you've done for this article. I think we're SO close to FA, and much of that is your input and general helpfulness. --Figureskatingfan (talk) 19:47, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Did you know?
Thanks for uploading Image:Image:Angelouspeech.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 06:09, 2 July 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Calliopejen1 (talk) 06:09, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (Image:Caged bird.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Caged bird.jpg.
Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:22, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

(I thought it was someone named Colin but now I think it is you ;-) I have posted name after name that never seem to get added and yet Natalie Cole who has just gone public 3 days ago is already there. Can I ask how you decide who gets on the list and who doesn't? Rocky Aoki just died on July 12th from Hep C. He was the founder of Benihana and a former Olympic wrestler. To me that is pretty famous. Ray Benson from Asleep at the Wheel has won many grammy awards (like 8 or so!). That is pretty famous. Everyone knows The Monster Mash and Gary S Paxton is pretty famous as a writer and famous in my age group as *The Alley Ooper*. I don't know how old you are but people in my age group think Peter Coyote is pretty famous and he has Hep C. In other words, what criteria are you using to update this important list and is there anything I can do to help you get it updated and keep it more current. I have made many additions to the discussion page but none are ever added.
With Hepatitis C outnumbering HIV patients 5 to 1 and yet getting VERY LITTLE press coverage of any kind, the Hep C Community has really appreciated this list and would very much like to have it current. Can I help you out in any way?
Thanks a million for doing this!
Peace

I went ahead and emailed Pam, a definate WP-newbie, but it's important enough, so I'm putting my response here:
- Hi Pam,
- Yes, this is my correct email; I changed it recently, and this one works. I have received your email and have been able to read it. ;)
- Anyway, I've read the additions to the Hep C article on Wikipedia, but didn't realize they were made by you. I have, at least once, gone through that list and checked the sources and added what was reliable. See, the only thing I've done on that article is to confirm the sources, add some images, look out for vandalism, and keep it on my watchlist. I stumbled upon it while doing some research for my job about the time I started getting into editing for Wikipedia for fun. Others, like the person who suggested that Cole should be added, have either added names themselves or made suggestions, and I've done some google searches to confirm the sources.
- So to answer your question--what is the criteria for adding names to the list?--there has to be a reliable source for the information. That's the goal for all Wikipedia articles, and it should be especially true for this one, since we're talking about real people here, you know. What's a reliable source, you ask? Wikipedia is very clear about that. We need to be especially careful and vigilant about this in this case. Sorry, but someone's webpage or blog just doesn’t cut it, and it shouldn't.
- There's nothing to stop you or anyone else from adding names to this list. Since I added Cole, I realized that there are some errors on the article, so I've been spending some time correcting them. You or anyone can do that. Of course, if you have difficulty, let me know and I'll be happy to help. I think an expert like yourself could go far in assisting this article to improve in quality. That's the whole point of Wikipedia. I'll also be happy to add the names you suggest (which can be done on the article's talk page or on mine); I'll even try to confirm them. You should know, though, that if the sources aren't reliable, I won't add it.
