Welcome to the seventy second WikiProject Yorkshire monthly newsletter.

Thanks to the contributions of our many members and supporters, WP:YORKS has become a leading local British WikiProject in terms of the total number of articles supported (up from 10,977 last month to 11,049 on March 30th). In the area of GAs WP:YORKS at 108 is ahead of WP:GM who have 81. WP:GM has the lead in FAs at 57 out of a total number of 3,321 articles.

Currently we have thirty two Yorkshire featured articles:

To set up a weekly or monthly selected article improvement drive (See this month's feature below)
To produce a regular news letter for circulation to members

and apropos of the above a 2010 New Year article improvement drive/collaboration is being organised.

Welcome to the seventy third WikiProject Yorkshire monthly newsletter.

Thanks to the contributions of our many members and supporters, WP:YORKS has become a leading local British WikiProject in terms of the total number of articles supported (up from 11,049 last month to 11,075 on April 30th). In the area of GAs WP:YORKS at 108 is ahead of WP:GM who have 81. WP:GM has the lead in FAs at 57 out of a total number of 3,327 articles.

Tools

Just a reminder to members that the toolserver will have been removed from service by the time you read this newsletter. If your favourite tool is not operating then this may be the reason. Most of the tools have been ported to run on Wikimedia Labs, which is the replacement infrastructure for this type of activity. So have a look round and see if the one you are interested in has been ported or not. If not then get in touch with the person who looks after it and see if it can be ported over.

Welcome to the seventy seventh WikiProject Yorkshire monthly newsletter.

Thanks to the contributions of our many members and supporters, WP:YORKS has become a leading local British WikiProject in terms of the total number of articles supported (up from 11,399 last month to 11,446 on August 31st). In the area of GAs WP:YORKS at 113 is ahead of WP:GM who have 82. WP:GM has the lead in FAs at 57 out of a total number of 3,358 articles.

Wiki Loves Monuments

This month sees the UK participating in the Wiki Loves Monuments competition for the second time. The aim is to capture images of monuments (mainly Grade I and Grade II* listed buildings) and to upload them to Commons. Many monuments have no images available for them or need better ones without clutter in view. The lists of the monuments were produced on a county basis last year. A full list of the English lists for use in the competition are available at listed buildings in England. If you are interested in taking part then take a look at the UK home page for further details. You do not have to take images in Yorkshire but it would be helpful if those in the area would help out to try and get at least one image for every monument in our area. May be the annual Heritage Open Days will provide opportunities for photos of places not usually open to the public.

It is that time of year again and time to wish all project members a Happy Christmas.

Project News

Welcome to the eighty first WikiProject Yorkshire monthly newsletter.

Thanks to the contributions of our many members and supporters, WP:YORKS has become a leading local British WikiProject in terms of the total number of articles supported (up from 11,606 in November to 11,657 on January 6th). In the area of GAs WP:YORKS at 112 is ahead of WP:GM who have 83. WP:GM has the lead in FAs at 57 out of a total number of 3,450 articles.

Currently we have thirty three Yorkshire featured articles:

There are 75 members of WikiProject Yorkshire! There is no change in the project membership since the December newsletter:

Aims

After discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Yorkshire in April 2008.

Specific aims for the project are:-

To complete tagging and assessment of all Yorkshire related articles (See below)
To recruit more active editors (See Member News)
To bring our top level article Yorkshire up to Featured article status
To bring all other top priority articles (currently 15 with 2 at FA) to at least Good article status
To set up a weekly or monthly selected article improvement drive (See this month's feature below)
To produce a regular news letter for circulation to members

and apropos of the above a 2010 New Year article improvement drive/collaboration is being organised.

Priority Articles

The top priority articles that have been identified to date are as follows -

Bradford • East Riding of Yorkshire • Henry Moore • Kingston upon Hull • Leeds • North Yorkshire • Ripon • Sheffield • South Yorkshire • Wakefield • West Yorkshire • William Wilberforce • York • Yorkshire • Yorkshire and the Humber

The number has been kept deliberately low to give us a fighting chance of improving them to at least GA status, also so we can concentrate our efforts on these first.
