July 2014 - dead links
editIt's good to keep the encyclopedia's links up to date and thanks for spotting them - I see that you're tagging many though. Per Wikipedia:DEADREF#Preventing_and_repairing_dead_links, the best practice is to try and locate a substitute for the dead link - archive.org is a good place to start before tagging - and I wanted to be sure you were exhausting those possibilities first. Thanks! JohnInDC (talk) 19:55, 21 July 2014 (UTC)
- Appreciate your efforts to fix deadlinks. I noticed that in many instances when you "fixed" links by substituting the archive.org version of a page/document the web page was still active, but with a new URL. It's always better to link to an active web page than to an archived one. Many deadlinks exist because websites reorganize and don't bother to provide redirects to the new URLs. It would be good to try to find the new URL for a page, instead of simply linking to the archived page. I've fixed a number of your "fixes" by simply searching for the title of the deadlinked page at the website where the page resided. Most were found very easily. So before heading to archive.org, please look for an active webpage first. Thanks. 32.218.32.200 (talk) 21:33, 31 July 2014 (UTC)
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
