RE: WP:MED
Haha no worries, I figured it was said in a light-hearted fashion. Glad I could help. —Cyclonenim (talk · contribs · email) 21:42, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
Thank you
It was so very kind of you to post your note at WP:MED. Direct, heartfelt feedback is hard to come by on Wikipedia, which makes it all the more meaningful on the rare occasions it does happen. It's so rewarding to hear that our work makes a difference. Maralia (talk) 21:47, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you for your thank you of my thank you :) Yes, I've noticed most feedback around here is skewed towards the negative, I'm glad you found it rewarding. --Floquenbeam (talk) 22:03, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
- Indeed, thank you for your kind words, Floquenbeam. Axl ¤ [Talk] 22:07, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
Animal Farm
I dunno why I have this on my watch list. It must be a contender for one of the most vandalised articles on Wikipedia. Thanks for fixing it.
SimonTrew (talk) 00:51, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- Well I do know, I love Orwell. But I have the precious advantage of having read everything he wrote, rather than just vandalise it. SimonTrew (talk) 00:52, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Simon, glad to help. It's on my watchlist because I fixed a dablink on it once. I notice it does get hit a lot, but I edit infrequently enough that someone else almost always gets to it first. This time I just happened to have checked my watchlist 1 minute after they vandalized, and did the honors myself.
- The only Orwell I've read is 1984; Animal Farm is one of those books I've felt I should read for years, but I never get around to it. Someday. --Floquenbeam (talk) 21:32, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- Not sure what a dablink is. I am having so much fun (and taking so much time) editing Wikipedia! Mostly for the good I hope. You must read Animal Farm you could read it in an evening it is very short. I think in a sense it is the essential Orwell, it condenses all his opinions in a very short space. Which is, I hope, what we try to do here. Pascal wrote to his cousin "I am sorry this letter is longer, but I have not had time to make it shorter".
- Best wishes SimonTrew (talk) 22:22, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- "RECOMMEND READ ANIMAL FARM" Heh, excellent judge of character that I am, I somehow knew you were going to say that. Yes, I will, it is on my list.
- A dablink is shorthand for links to disambiguation pages. I like fixing them (and reading the articles I run across while I'm fixing them), which is how I came across Animal Farm. Anyway, real life is calling, I'm off. Cheers. --Floquenbeam (talk) 22:35, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- You were wrong. I misspelt "Reccommend". But read it, I think you would enjoy it. Or if not, it is not War and Peace and is easily flushed down the toilet SimonTrew (talk) 22:55, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- Sheesh I was so scared losing it but it only took me 6 minutes to get it back together just panicked. Perversely, the one edit I missed was the one I was trying to make i.e. the Hanon chap. That is I think three times now he has vandalised it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by SimonTrew (talk • contribs)
Rollback
I have 1 granted rollback rights to your account; the reason for this is that after a review of some of your contributions, I believe I can trust you to use rollback correctly by using it for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Good luck and thanks. –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 21:56, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

- (sotto voce) FYI: I recently saw a good rollbacker (who is an admin! on Dutch Wikipedia) get stripped of his bit, accused of being a sockpuppet, and other humiliations ... because he made a judgment call that something was vandalism that was something else ... and was RIPPED TO SHREDS (amidst all kinds of confusion) for 3RR. (NOTE: If you ever use Huggle, the startup screen has a new little warning at the bottom, that I put there, after witnessing the preceding). I.E., Don't forget 3RR. I could have made the same mistake as that editor. You'd think all your hard work would earn you "the benefit of the doubt." Nope. Just keep that in mind. (No reply necessary)

ThankSpam
Thank you for participating in my "RecFA", which passed with a final tally of 153/39/22. There were issues raised regarding my adminship that I intend to cogitate upon, but I am grateful for the very many supportive comments I received and for the efforts of certain editors (Ceoil, Noroton and Lar especially) in responding to some issues. I wish to note how humbled I was when I read Buster7's support comment, although a fair majority gave me great pleasure. I would also note those whose opposes or neutral were based in process concerns and who otherwise commented kindly in regard to my record. ~~~~~ |

Merciless berating
Sadly everything looks ok over at the AfD. I'll have to save the merciless berating for next time ;-) Bigger digger (talk) 21:54, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
- OK, I'm issuing one merciless berating rain check. Use before the end of the season. --Floquenbeam (talk) 21:55, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
- Wow, speedy reply, I got an edit conflict trying to move this conversation into the related heading above... Just so we're all clear on this, when does the season end? I might just see if I can add your Special:Contributions page to my watchlist so I don't miss out on the opportunity. Bigger digger (talk) 21:57, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
- <merciless berating> You can't add Special:Contribs to a watchlist. Noob. :) </merciless berating> Your easiest approach would be to watchlist my talk page instead, and pile on when someone else notices a mistake. The season coincides with the US baseball season, so you've got plenty of time to return the favor. --Floquenbeam (talk) 22:05, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
- Well I can add it to an RSS feed, so now you're in trouble... And I'll avoid the merciless berating for the CSD malarkey below (I note Floq 0 - 1 BackslashForwardslash on your contribs) because I have to go and find out when the baseball season ends. I'm good on NFL, but have more than enough cricket which means I can avoid baseball ;-) Bigger digger (talk) 23:52, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
- I'm ashamed to admit I'm technologically challenged enough that I couldn't add something to an RSS feed if my life depended on it. Anyway, stalk me if you must, I'm sure I could use someone to keep me honest. Baseball season ends in October; I guess I was a little US-centric there. Now, I'm off to enjoy the rest of the weekend. Cheers. --Floquenbeam (talk) 22:16, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
- Gah! I got your name wrong, sorry! I think that must entitle you to some more berating... Bibber dibber (talk) 22:33, 7 June 2009 (UTC)
- Nah, I'll save the berating for later. If I save up five of them, it entitles me to a free penalty-free personal attack. --Floquenbeam (talk) 22:57, 7 June 2009 (UTC)
- Ooh, a personal attack, sounds interesting. Go on, ridicule the size of my back hoe, I dare ya! Oh, but whilst merciless berating doesn't seem to have any policies, you might want to read WP:NPA ;-) Bigger digger (talk) 10:07, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

speedy deletion...
an album is not notable merely because the band has a wikipedia page. in fact, their page also has been tagged. Wikiwikikid (talk) 22:30, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not saying the album is definitely notable, I'm saying it shouldn't be speedily deleted. Read WP:CSD#A9 again; if the artist has an article, A9 doesn't apply. You're more than welcome to take it to AFD if you want to. Also, I've removed the tag you put on the band's page too. Four albums on a notable independent label means A7 doesn't apply; see WP:BAND.
- Finally, per WP:CSD, if someone disputes a CSD tagging, you are not supposed to re-add the tag. Please remove your re-tagging. If you disagree, take the articles to AFD; you can probably nominate them as a group, rather than individually. --Floquenbeam (talk) 22:35, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
- you are incorrect. you can't remove the tag, you have to respond with a hangon tag... as for A9, your link proves your ignorance of the subject. "An article about a musical recording that does not indicate why its subject is important or significant and where the artist's article does not exist. This is distinct from questions of verifiability and reliability of sources, and is a lower standard than notability. This criterion does not apply to other forms of creative media, products, or any other types of articles."
- -no where does it say that an album from a wiki'd artist is not subject to this. basically, you lied. Wikiwikikid (talk) 04:20, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
- Wikiwikikid, I don't understand your attitude. The piece you quoted from A7 requires 1. No implication of importance and 2. No artist page. There is an artist page and the external links suggest it might have some merit. Send it to AfD and I'll even have a deeper look, it could well be suitable for deletion but you are not going about it the right way, and are acting most uncivily in accusing a fellow editor of lying. Please assume good faith. Bigger digger (talk) 10:00, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
- Furthermore Wikiwikikid, I see from your talk page history that you have been told before about speedying long-existing articles and told that AfD is a more suitable process. That also applies here. Bigger digger (talk) 10:06, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

- Hi Wikiwikikid,
- I don't really understand the aggression, but to answer your questions:
- No, I don't have to use a {{hangon}} tag; that's only for the creator of the article. I have never even edited any of those articles, much less start them (Nor am I a fan; indeed, it's quite likely that I would truly hate listening to their music) . If I disagree, I can just remove the tag. You might want to re-read the tag; it says it right on there.
- As Bigger digger says, per the wording of A9 which you've quoted above, you can't use it if there is either an assertion of significance or the artist has an article.
- Speedy deletion is for articles where there is unlikely to be disagreement about its deletion (except, perhaps, for its author). There are two ways you can know that AFD is more appropriate: (a) The article is long-standing, and has a lot of contributors, many of whom you can assume would dispute the deletion, and (b) someone (in this case, me) disputes it by removing the tag.
- From my review, I'm pretty sure the band in notable enough for an article. I'm not sure about the albums. The way to get consensus about this, of course, is to take it to AFD. If you need help creating an AFD page, ask me, or anyone else, for help.
- Free advice: you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. You also feel less silly when it turns out you're wrong about something when you haven't called the person who was correct "ignorant" or even worse, say they were "lying". That ain't the way to win friends and influence people. --Floquenbeam (talk) 22:11, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

Cor, first it was punch cards and Fortran, now it's editing wikipedia with your phone. Watch out MySpace ;-) Bigger digger (talk) 09:29, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
- Heh. New phone, with lots of bells and whistles I'm trying out. Took me 15 minutes to make that edit last night, and failed at deleting it, so I think that probably won't be my primary editing mode. I'm trying, against my natural instincts and abilities, to drag myself into the 21st Century. I've never even texted anyone yet, so I think MySpace and Facebook are safe for another few years, at least. --Floquenbeam (talk) 11:17, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

oh, no! please do not request for them to not talk to me anymore! i rather enjoy it, actually. also, what policy have i violated by talking to them? not civility policies. not personal attack policies. i've not commented on the editor, just the edits. the editor could certainly use some encouragement towards using proper grammar and spelling. however, i was merely suggesting that she correct her own grammar/spelling before attacking others for the same indiscretion. have a great day ;-)... Wikiwikikid (talk) 04:51, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
- Well, the first thing I noticed is you calling them "buddy" after being asked not to. The second thing is, you've beaten the spelling thing into the ground now. The third thing is, they seemed to be getting increasingly upset, so disengagement is needed. A lot of this is baiting, if we're being honest, and I'm sure you know that. They've been acting childish too, so it's certainly not all one sided, and indeed they have bigger issues that I guess I'll have to deal with. But you'll be accomplishing nothing that benefits the encyclopedia by further engagement with them. --Floquenbeam (talk) 17:17, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
- look, i'll explain to you like i explained to m####, who i consider my "buddy" is my business. not yours, not theirs, even! she may not consider me her buddy, but i definitely consider her mine! i think the terrible quality of this user's edits are detrimental to the encyclopedia, so if i can even distract them, i feel i'm making a significant contribution. i've not spoken to her since you requested i not do so, but i respectfully disagree with your opinion on the value of the conversations. Wikiwikikid (talk) 05:21, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
- I could not care less who you "think" of as your buddy. When someone says they don't want to be "called" your buddy, a mature person would honor the request. --Floquenbeam (talk) 21:20, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
- If the user does not want you to be her buddy then it's her asking you not to say you are her buddy. She and I have worked together in the past. <some personal stuff redacted> Thanks for your time. Feel free to leave me a message. --MVHS2009 (talk) 20:47, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Removed speedy
I noticed you removed my Speedy Delete request on Talk:Anavil Brahmins. Did you not notice I had instead fixed the only link to Anavil Brahmins, in the Jāti article? Now Anavil Brahmins is not linked to from anywhere. Astronaut (talk) 00:48, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Astronaut,
- No, I hadn't noticed that, but it's still a reasonable redirect. Now someone will go directly to the right page if they type "Anavil Brahmins" in the search box. Remember, WP:redirects are cheap. The redirect isn't hurting anything, and might help someone someday. And your fix to the link in Jāti was useful too, so it's win-win. --Floquenbeam (talk) 02:57, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
- With it only being used once, I thought it was improbable, but you are right someone could put the plural in the search box. I agree win-win. Thanks. Astronaut (talk) 03:51, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

- Can't even remember where I stole it from (and it was only like a week ago!). Enjoy it. --Floquenbeam (talk) 02:57, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
Re: ArbCom accounts
Sure, that would be a great idea. I think I still have the passwords, but unfortunately I'm temporarily without regular Internet access, so it might take a few days till I can try to regain access. I'll let you know. szyslak (t) 00:12, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
Probability theory
I appreciate your wise words at WP:AN/I about the Time Cube, but I think you have much to learn about Wikipedia. According to WP:AGF, we are required to welcome with open arms any editor whose chance of someday making a not-entirely-disruptive edit is > 1e10-9. We are also forbidden from blocking racist editors, because it's just, like, someone's opinion that racism is bad - and who are we to impose our opinions on others? A block would throw away our shot at a hypothetical future non-disruptive edit, which is worth alienating any number of sane, prolific contributors. And if a blocked editor creates a sock or 300, then we are of course culpable, not him, because we we closed the door prematurely and left him with no conceivable option other than sockpuppetry and block evasion. I learned all of this from AN/I. :P MastCell Talk 20:37, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
- Ah, thank you Master Po, I still have a lot to learn. Foolishly, I would have blocked them after about their third edit, but such impetuousness is why I am but a grasshopper, and you a Master. Thank you for the lesson, sifu. --Floquenbeam (talk) 20:46, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
p.s. I note that you are "uninvolved"... I don't suppose you'd care to review and do the honors? --Floquenbeam (talk) 20:46, 20 July 2009 (UTC)No, no, no, nevermind, that's just a headache I shouldn't wish on other people. A guaranteed admin abuse thread on ANI, endlessly arguing with a crank... I wouldn't wish that on an admin I dislike, much less on one I actually want to stick around and not burn out.- I think my post should offer ample evidence that burnout has already occurred, but I thank you for your consideration. :) MastCell Talk 21:03, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
Merger proposal
A merge has been proposed for 25/8, you are welcome add your position here • S • C • A • R • C • E • 00:00, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for the notice, Scarce, I saw that pop up on my watchlist, but I'm headed out. If I can think of anything useful to say, I'll chime in tomorrow. --Floquenbeam (talk) 00:03, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
Transwiki
In light of the recent events I think it might be a good time to make a new project proposal at councils and organise a project which concentrates on transferring content from other wikipedias but in a way which is much more efficient and can done with no community concerns. If I make a proposal in a day or two can you comment as I feel we both share the same view that it is important to transfer content from other wikipedias but done adequately as part of a project coordination. Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:05, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
- Well, I think making new proposals around here to actually get anything useful done is often like herding cats. But yes, I'd be happy to comment on a proposal to do what you're saying, for whatever my comment is worth. After a rough start, I think many people that were involved in that thread are all more or less in agreement on the overall goal you describe. Perhaps this will be the exception to the rule, and something useful will come from an ANI thread. --Floquenbeam (talk) 21:10, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
Gavin.collins
I appreciate your speaking to Gavin.Collins about his unwarranted call for a block of AlbertHerring. Unfortunately, I do not think it will change Gavin’s views at all. Gavin is very firm in his opinions and interpretations of policies, and does not change them no matter how many people show him he is wrong. Gavin is still firmly convinced his actions were right and the correct interpretation of policy. [4]
This is nothing new as Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Gavin.collins, Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Gavin.collins 2, Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/Kender and the associated links clearly show. Edward321 (talk) 22:17, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
- That explains quite a bit. --Floquenbeam (talk) 10:35, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
Thank you...
...for the kind words. They are greatly appreciated.
I just needed a couple of days to back off and cool down. Though this really wasn't a spur-of-the-moment decision...it's been a while brewing, and things just came to a head with the ANI. Ah, well...I'm back, now, and don't intend leaving any time soon. :-)
Once again, many thanks. And I'll be quite happy to take that barnstar, so long as you're in giving mood...--User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 02:29, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
- Glad you're back. A few days can work wonders. Cheers. --Floquenbeam (talk) 11:51, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
- On the contrary, thank you. 'Specially as I was just joshing about the barnstar...but I'll never say no to more hardware. :-) --User:Ser Amantio di Nicolao Che dicono a Signa?'Lo dicono a Signa. 13:44, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
Heh
I got a chuckle out this. Nice :) NW (Talk) 00:42, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
- Seeing as how that comment, and this reply, are the sum total of my contributions for the week, I'm glad someone found it amusing; now that I've made someone chuckle, the week is now officially not a total loss. I have done something good. :) --Floquenbeam (talk) 00:48, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Brexx
No, that's not likely. Correct procedure is to go to WP:SPI and start a new case. It will automatically get appended to the old open one. My feeling is that we haven't got sufficient evidence yet, even though I have a hunch you are right. I'll monitor the account's behaviour, and if it becomes apparent to be Brexx, I'll open a new case. Between Big Bird and I, Brexx socks tend to be fairly short-lived these days.—Kww(talk) 15:25, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply. BB also replied on that page. I'll defer to you and him; I know nothing of this person, but only noticed the timing of this edit and it just stretched my credulity to the breaking point. If you two have your eyes on things, it sounds like it's in good hands, I'll defer to you. --Floquenbeam (talk) 15:27, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for fixing those Lohan redirects. I don't know what I was thinking when I did that.

I wondered if I could request your help. There is a sockpuppet accusation going on on my page and wondered if you could check it out and provide a neutral party opinion. Thanks. --ScythreTalkContribs 21:31, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
- I assume you realize I'm not an admin. But if you're just looking for an outside opinion, I'll wander over and take a look. --Floquenbeam (talk) 21:34, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, I was looking for admins who have posted on my talk page, but none have, so I figured you seem like a pretty experienced user so I'd come over to you. I'm trying to call an admin into the matter as well; I just thought it a bit random posting that message on an admin's talk page I had no dealing's with before. Thanks. --ScythreTalkContribs 21:37, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Sorry to disturb you again, but how would I go about the suggestions you made? You can start this under a new talk header on my page, or continue the discussion here if you want. I think the sockpuppet discussion is a bit long. --ScythreTalkContribs 23:04, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
- I don't think you need the big long apology on your user page; it's not that I thought a public shaming was needed, just wanted to make sure you realized it was handled slightly poorly. IMHO, just take the apology off your user page, and leave a "Note:I used to edit as Flashflash" type thing on your user page somewhere (I think User:VI does this). Everything else appears to have already been done. If you want to tie up all loose ends, you could probably ask Xeno to block Flashflash, but I'm not sure that's truly needed. --Floquenbeam (talk) 00:43, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
