editHi, you made changes to a page I keep up to date. Thanks for that. One of the comments you made is "couldn't find any sources on 2021 national championship controversy" Here's a link to some documents related to this controversy. https://www.gymnasticsethicsfoundation.org/_files/ugd/992b6c_47662b7b93e747dcaa81939f7585f11d.pdf Also there's newspaper articles related to this: https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2023/aug/03/kitty-chiller-appointed-to-key-sports-integrity-role-while-still-under-international-sanction https://www.smh.com.au/sport/national-sports-tribunal-deputy-sanctioned-for-false-statement-20230314-p5cs2b.html https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2022/jun/16/aoc-executive-kitty-chiller-sanctioned-for-judging-irregularities-at-olympics-qualifier https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-06-15/kitty-chiller-national-sports-tribunal-gymnastics-australia/101155200
In brief at the 2021 national championship that doubled as continentals and Olympic qualifier, 2 judges without adequate qualification self nominated to the jury (the highest roles on judging panel. During the event this jury deliberately overruled score given by top qualifying judges and increased the score of the gymnast who was ranking second by unprecedented amount (three times more than maximum ever seen at international competitions). This way changing ranking - making #2 to take the first spot, win nationals, continentals and gain olympic spot. Gymnastics Australia backed that action, however when the matter was investigated by Gymnastics Ethics Foundation and Sports Integrity Australia both investigations found competition manipulation and breaches to codes of ethics and codes of behaviour. 5 parties (Gymnastics Australia, Oceania Gymnastics Union, CEO of gymnastics Australia and 2 judges) were found guilty and received sanctions. However this cannot return Alexandra her missed Olympic Games spot. ToxicVictory (talk) 13:00, 6 February 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you! I had heard about the problems with the 2021 Oceania Championships (and left it on her page in that context), but I missed that it doubled as the national championship that year, so I ended up trying to search for a second event with judging problems. I appreciate the links and explanation! FloweringDagwood (talk) 21:12, 6 February 2024 (UTC)
