To update the criticism section for Google Hangouts as it is clear that Google is "moving in the wrong direction " by moving away from being an open platform not based on open standards that cannot be integrated with multichat clients like Digsby or Adium. Google's standpoint however is understandable because they do not want to open up their software until companies like Microsoft with Skype reciprocate. The EFF put Google on the media frying pan for moving away from XMPP, a widely used open protocol for instant messaging that Google helped to popularize with Talk. XMPP allowed for use of Google Talk through google chat clients and third party clients something that is not possible with the current web standards of Google Hangout
