Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Forrest Gander may have broken the syntax by modifying 7 "()"s. If you have, don't worry, just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Ashwini Bhat Profile 2012.jpg

edit

A tag has been placed on File:Ashwini Bhat Profile 2012.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Your email

edit

I received your email regarding "Ashwini Bhat". In order to address it point-by-point I would like to copy the body of it here. I will leave out your email address of course.

If you prefer, you may post a revised version of it here. I am logging out of Wikipedia but I should be back within 12-48 hours. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 03:01, 10 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

I received your second email. I prefer to communicate about Wikipedia articles "out in public" so everyone can see. If you will re-post your emails to me here OR give me permission to re-post them here for you, then I can reply. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 04:46, 14 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

David, I'm not really sure how (technically) to interact here. If I write this, do you see it? I'm fine about communicating in public. Just not adept at it. But yes, you have my permission to post the body of my Bhat entry here if it will help me to see how more properly to edit it. Thanks. Forthgone (talk) 17:59, 14 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I see this. I have your talk page on my "watchlist" (see special:watchlist for your personal watchlist, and Help:Watching pages for help regarding the "watchlist" feature), which I check almost every day that I edit. I wanted permission to post your emails to me. There is no need to copy the content of Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Ashwini Bhat here, since that's already "on wiki" for everyone to see.
So, do I have your permission to copy the bodies of both of the emails I received here? If not, that is okay, you may wish to just rewrite your questions here. In any case, once a question is asked here, I'll try my best to answer it. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 23:03, 14 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Great. And I can see from the responses of others that you have extended yourself on many occasions. Thank you. So yes, I'll rewrite my questions here. In the denial of my posting of an article on Ashwini Bhat, you suggested that there were two major errors. I'm not sure I understand them completely, but this is how I understand them. 1. That by making links to museums and galleries where her work has been exhibited, and perhaps by linking The Howard Foundation Award to both the Howard Foundation website and to the page that lists her as a recipient of the award, I am promoting her rather than providing information. My thinking was that in terms of "verifiability," it was necessary to show her relation to those exhibitions and awards. 2. The second major observation has to do with citations by people with whom she is somehow "connected." But I don't see any of those besides the reference to my own article about her work which, since I am a professional writer and since my essay on her work appeared in a major juried trade journal, I thought would be relevant. As Bhat is really a significant ceramic artist, winning significant prizes and exhibiting her work on three continents, the flaws in representing her as a significant artist must be my own. I'm grateful for any suggestions you have. Thanks again. Forthgone (talk) 03:38, 15 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Are there non-primary, reliable sources that are "independent" of Ms. Bhat which say pretty much the same things as the sources you are using? See Wikipedia:Reliable sources and Wikipedia:No original research#Primary, secondary and tertiary sources to get an idea of the kinds of sources Wikipedia prefers. Primary sources, which include a listing of who exhibited at a given gallery that was created by that gallery or an announcement of who won a given award by the people who are giving the award are allowed but secondary sources are strongly preferred. A local or better yet non-local newspaper, magazine, or journal that meets the criteria in Wikipedia:Reliable sources which listed her appearances in galleries and her awards would be better than the primary sources. Just be sure to use a source that Wikipedia considers reliable. The lack of secondary, reliable sources independent of the person is a good but not certain indication of a lack of notability.
As for your second question, any gallery which stands to make money or gain prestige by displaying her works is "connected" to her in the sense that concerns Wikipedia. The connected-ness is almost always 2-way. Being "connected" isn't a huge issue for merely factual information but it can be a major issue when it comes to opinions. For example, if you used a gallery web page as a reference for "Bhat displayed her work at XYZ gallery" that would be okay because it's purely factual, although a newspaper or other secondary source would be strongly preferred. If you used that same gallery's web site as a reference to "Bhat's work is the best work in the field in the last 10 years" that would not be okay because the gallery's opinion could be perceived as being biased by the fact that they are showing her works. However, if that same gallery said "Joe Expert (were Joe Expert is a recognized expert and is not affiliated with the gallery in question) said 'Bhat's work is the best work in the field in the last 10 years'" then that would probably be fine because it's some other expert's opinion, not the gallery's, which you are citing. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 04:05, 15 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
By the way, if you do wind up using your own work as a reference in this submission, please add the following above your submission: {{afc comment|1=I, Forthgone, wrote [name of work], which I am using as a reference in the submission below. ~~~~}} This will alert the reviewer. The reviewer may ask you to try to replace your own work with a different work if possible. The reviewer may also put the {{connected contributor}} template on the resulting article's talk page so readers can know that you, the contributor, are closely tied to either the subject or to one of the references. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 04:10, 15 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
