Why not move this to the Wikipedia: namespace? It seems to be of great use. -- Zanimum 18:41, 7 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Reasons are stated here: Wikipedia:Miscellany_for_deletion/User:The_Transhumanist/Virtual_classroom X [Mac Davis] (DESK|How's my driving?) 21:25, 8 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
It's a hosted page. The structure and stability of being hosted would be lost if it was moved to another namespace. Though please feel free to utilize the material generated on this page as you see fit. For example, via cutting, pasting, and editing, it can be used to improve other pages.  The Transhumanist   04:00, 30 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

General thanks

edit

I know this isn't the proper place to put this, but Im in the moment and really want to express my gratitude. I want to take a moment here to say thank you to those of you taking steps to make this platform into a living thing. You have gone out of your way to make this resource into something that is evolving as we watch. This media allows for multiple versions of history/fact to finally come together and meet in a crucible. From that meeting we are seeing truth unimagined. The efforts of this project, and several others, to ease the transition from reader to contributor to editor are much appreciated. Thank you and keep up the good work FOK SD OA 18:42, 8 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Grutness's guide to stubbing

edit

I thought it said "Grutness's guide to stabbing", and thought to myself "Sign me up!"

Just kidding. This looks like it could be a handy resource; one oddity leapt immediately to attention, though. The Curriculum section is described as "Essential reading for becoming a well-rounded Wikipedian", but it links to the Administrators' reading list, some of which is unecessary or distracting for a regular editor. Isn't there an Editors' reading list?

--Grey Knight 03:33, 23 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

There is now. Check out the curriculum link, and let me know what you think. The Transhumanist    12:04, 23 January 2007 (UTC) ==gtgtgtgtReply

Elaragirl, about deletion and deletionism

edit

A minor quibble on the factual accuracy of the Administrative Deletion section. The Brian Peppers wasn't deleted for any kind of legal reason. This actually went through something like six afds and several deletion reviews, first being deleted and then being kept. Jimbo has stated on the mailing list that he locked it because people were repeatedly using process to overturn the original decision. As you can see from the template at Brian Peppers it's only a moratorium until 21 February 2007 not quite an Administrative deletion.  YDAM TALK 21:23, 30 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the heads-up. I've corrected that passage. Please proofread it to see if I got it right.  The Transhumanist   13:16, 1 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Well it's factually correct now but I think that it would be better to use an example that actually was deleted for legal reasons per WP:OFFICE rather than the current example which is a bit of an exception and not really the kind of thing I think Elaragirl was trying to illustrate in that section  YDAM TALK 13:59, 1 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Tests

edit

Perhaps we can have a page to test basic points of a particular "lesson". I'm thinking I can probably whip something up based on WP:TEST--Ed ¿Cómo estás?Reviews? 02:38, 1 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sounds cool. Go for it. (Be sure to have an answers page).    The Transhumanist   13:01, 1 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Copyrights

edit

Transhumanist, I don't mean to pile on, but I do have a suggestion. Could we perhaps get one of the image/copyright "gurus to submit something that's easy to understand in the virtual classroom? I'm afraid I don't really get it - lot's of images seem to be unacceptable, I can't figure out how to register and image at commons. Thanks for considering it,NinaEliza 01:21, 14 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I agree that Copyrights is an area needing illumination. My guess is that much of the problem comes from that template you have to fill in everytime you submit a pic. I get confused every time I read it. I'll see what I can do when I return in February. In the meantime, I'm just checking for and answering messages every week or two. -- The Transhumanist 10:46, 23 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
I'd be happy to do something like this, in the style of the other lessons. Jkelly 04:35, 8 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

WP:MOS?

edit

Could the next topic be a simplified manual of style? I have looked through there and I have found it a little confusing. The Placebo Effect 21:14, 8 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

A mini-MOS or MOS overview? Sounds cool, though it might be better as it's own page/project. I'd be glad to host it, but will have to give the concept some thought when I return in February, as to what approach would be best for making the MOS easier to understand and navigate. In the meantime, if you could point out what you found confusing, that would sure help. -- The Transhumanist 10:46, 23 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

EL policy and linkspam

edit

i really would like to see something on external link policy and linkspam. links have been booming over recent months, and lots of stuff that gets added shouldn't be there. a lot of experienced users just plain don't know/don't know to remove them. JoeSmack Talk 21:29, 4 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'd love something on linkspam too ... I know quite a bit about this sort of advertising, and would be happy to talk about it. Yuser31415 (Editor review two!) 04:29, 5 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Awesome! Although some may not be able to give the time or the will, here are some other editors I know who are spot on about external links and linkspam policy: User:Eagle_101, User:Hu12, User:BozMo, User:Heligoland, User:Sagaciousuk, User:AbsolutDan, User:JonHarder, User:ReyBrujo, User:GeorgeMoney, User:Thadius856, User:Shadow1, User:Veinor, User:Peter M Dodge - phew i'm out of breath. I'll help where I can on the weekends. JoeSmack Talk 05:53, 5 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

A good place to start is at http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Wizardry_Dragon/Spam that is an essay that 3 of us wrote. :D ---- Eagle101 Need help? 04:59, 6 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Whoever wants to write-up the lesson, please let me know. The Transhumanist   05:23, 7 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
User:Yuser31415, you want to give it a shot? You got a little bit of a start with that essay Me/Eagle/Peter wrote not too long ago. If no one takes the reigns (I can't, I'm unpredictably swamped too often), I think an 'excuse me mister' wouldn't be all that out of order for that list. Just be nice. :) JoeSmack Talk 06:09, 7 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Sure, I'll write something up. Yuser31415 (Editor review two!) 21:38, 7 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well there's equal signs

and that's about all I know about adding to the information on Wikipedia. I do know one thing that can't be found on the web/anywhere about cat5 cabling though. The way this is set up I can't even figure out to ask how, much less add to it. I don't even know if this thing will fly, what's 3= v 2= I know nothing. But, I guarantee I know a thing Wikipedia does not about cat5e cabling that would drive a network to insanity. Tried the sandbox. (UTC)

Admin coaching

edit

Hi. I'm interested in learning more about Adminship and tightening my grip on policy and essentials. The humungous list at Wikipedia:Admin coaching/Requests appears to be backlogged to October '06 so in an IAR-kind-of-way I wondered if I could queue-jump and request your assistance? --Dweller 20:10, 6 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

That was quick. Just 2 months here and an admin already! That's definitely the record here.  :-) The Transhumanist    21:06, 21 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Withdrawing from Admin Coaching

edit

Hi Transhumanist, it has been a while since my last active participation in the coaching section. I've been going through some hectic times in my real life, and unfortunately don't think I will have the time in the future, should I ever become an admin, to fully contribute to the project. I regretablly would like to withdraw from our coaching partnership. Would love to hear you thoughts. Luke! 18:48, 16 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Tackle the hectics head on, and get yer butt back here when everything is straightened out! And remember, you have lots of friends here, so if at anytime you need to get away from it all, we'll be right here waiting for you.  :-) (Wikipedia is a great stress buster). Good luck, and good wishes. And as Spock would say...

Coaching

edit

I'd like to be coached. Not admin coaching! Just to increase my Wiki skills set. How do I go about it? Cheers! Wassupwestcoast 20:27, 31 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
