workings of IBM

Thank you again for your comment at the "AfD". I think that the internal organization of a company that employs that many people or has that great an impact on the world is potentially encyclopedic, but we outsiders are unlikely to find out much. (Wild, uneducated guess: Perhaps a company first has to collapse -- like Barings Bank -- for there to be an inquiry that will bring its workings to light.)

Well, the article here on IBM is a bit odd in places. It tells us: There will be no necessity for companies to pay Microsoft for its licenses for operating systems since the operating systems will no longer rely on software which is Windows-based. As far as I know, companies here (with the possible exception of those that are huge) have two options when buying computers: Windows or OS X. Not being a huge company, I replace my computers (when I have to) with others that have Windows installed; I first boot them off a thumb drive and install a replacement OS. I am pretty much forced to pay Microsoft for a product that I never use, because (despite lip-service to antitrust considerations) Microsoft has monopoly power. -- Hoary (talk) 09:39, 14 February 2014 (UTC)
