Blanking Users Pages

edit

I don't think it's a good idea to blank users pages but to remind them with {{subst:uw-socialnetwork}} if you feel they are using it as a social networking site Gsp (talk) 18:46, 7 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wow, that was quick- thanks for the feedback. I've just spun this off into Wikipedia:Social networking if you want to comment there where it may reach a larger audience. My main thought on this is to make it inconvenient to misuse Wikipedia. Getting your user page messed with accomplishes this, but I'm certainly open to other ideas also. As the users own their pages I don't think it's an good idea to mess with them without them reverting it and warning you for vandalism, It can also discourage helpful edits, Telling somebody in their talk page that Wikipedia is not a social network through the template is the best option imho Thanks again! :-) Gsp (talk) 11:46, 8 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wow, Friday, this is a tremendous collection of sensible thoughts that I wish more people would read. I just noticed it zipping by while watching recent changes. "No admin left behind." Yes indeedie. Oh yes indeedie. I can't even tell you how awful I think those "training camps" are -- we need people who figure it out for themselves, and even better, are drafted to the job because so many others notice their clueful behavior. And the Myspacification of Wikipedia -- I just let out a heavy sigh; don't know what to do about this: it may be quite impossible to do anything. My heretical take on the whole thing is that we just need more adults here, but I'm a-preachin' to the choir I know. Regards, Antandrus (talk) 02:52, 25 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
