We require this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator.

You may find our guide for writing quality articles to be extremely informative. Also, you may want to consider working on future articles in draft space first, where they cannot be deleted for lacking content.
