editPlease don't think that this is a personal vendetta, but you are writing very good articles about subjects that are highly likely NOT to be retained in Wikipedia main-space. Please note that military accidents are NOT notable in their own right, regardless of number of casualties. Notability needs to be conferred from other reasons, such as civilian casualties, infrastructure damage, or casualties notable in their own right, or being the cause of regulation change, operational doctrine change or similar.--Petebutt (talk) 17:50, 13 January 2018 (UTC)

CHRISSYMAD ❯❯❯¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 20:41, 22 January 2018 (UTC)Plane crashes
editHi! I noticed your recent contributions to aviation article creation (specifically the 2000 Marana V-22 Crash) and was wondering if you would consider writing some articles on Soviet plane crashes. Many Soviet plane crashes don't have english wiki articles because all mentions of plane crashes in the USSR were censored from the media until glasnost, causing lots of crashes to not have abundant english information published about them because the crashes happened well into the past and weren't "news". Would you consider writing some of the soviet plane crash articles on this list and this list, or maybe even joining the Soviet aviation task force to help reduce this information gap? Thank you!--PlanespotterA320 (talk) 20:31, 24 January 2018 (UTC)
- Sure, thing. I've been looking for some other aviation incidents to cover. Definitely going to be a challenge trying to compile sources but I'll look into it.Ftxs (talk) 20:37, 24 January 2018 (UTC)
- I usually start with Russianplanes.net, Airdisasters.ru, the Aviation Safety Network, and sources used the corresponding Russian Langauge articles before moving on to more advanced searches. Always a good idea to search the registration number with aircraft type, not just the flight number, bc Soviet Aeroflot crashed so such flight numbers get re-used to the point of impairing a search. Also helps to do these searches in Russian, it will yield more results.--PlanespotterA320 (talk) 20:50, 24 January 2018 (UTC)
- Good to know. I've already started with one of the crashes on the list,1997 Namibia mid-air collision, because there appears to be a plethora of information on it. Should be done by the end of the day and I'll move on to some of the other ones.Ftxs (talk) 20:54, 24 January 2018 (UTC)

- Thanks! I'll work on some of the other ones tomorrow. Ftxs (talk) 01:58, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
- By the way, because you are a registered user, can't you create an article directly without going through afc? Afc is pretty tedious and if not nessesary much faster to do without. I just copy+paster text from my sandbox directly into the article namespace when ready.--PlanespotterA320 (talk) 02:10, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
- I figure I can, I just have never done it before. Afc is how I started writing so I never bothered to try a different medium. Going to start C&Ping from my sandbox from now on. Thanks for the tip.Ftxs (talk) 02:12, 25 January 2018 (UTC)

jcc (tea and biscuits) 20:50, 10 February 2018 (UTC)Sources
editIf you check, the first news article is not by the Daily Mail but it is originally by AFP (which is considered a highly reliable/verifiable source by Wikipedia). The Daily Mail only republished it. At the top of the article it states "By AFP". As a compromise I have now provided a non-Daily Mail source which also republished the AFP story and states in the heading Associated French Press. As for Masdar, it has been discussed several times during the years and consensus on Wikipedia is its highly reliable in Syrian war-related articles when it comes to territorial changes and unit dispositions to the point it does not need attribution. As for everything else, consensus is its information can be included with proper attribution. I have expanded on this point now and attributed, according to Masdar, the reports of Russian deaths to social media as well as a Syrian military source. EkoGraf (talk) 18:18, 13 February 2018 (UTC)
- Alright, I just clicked on the source, saw Daily Mail, and winced. Appreciate the edit. I'm not sure where this "consensus" has been established but I'll take your word for it. I'm sure Almasdar is verifiable when it comes to other parts of the war but my issue is that, despite its tendency to be accurate, it is a very pro-government source that has made dubious claims in the past and for this particular case I'm not sure if they're trustworthy enough especially with the controversy coming from this particular battle. But nevertheless, if it's accurate then I don't have a problem with it. The issue I'm having is this: a quarter of the 'Battle' section of the article is now composed of a bunch of different sources talking about the possibility of Russians being in the battle and how many died, etc. One of the lines is "some posts on Russian social media made claims of over 200 Russian PMCs." I think that's unnecessary. I'm proposing just narrowing it down. Just 1-2 lines with claims of Russian casualties until more, conclusive, information arises. EkoGraf.Ftxs (talk) 19:34, 13 February 2018 (UTC)
- The issue of Masdar was heatedly debated early last year to the point it went to a noticeboard (which is probably archived now). It was then decided that, considering its track record in regards to reporting territorial changes and unit compositions, it was correct 90 percent of the time since what they were saying overlapped with what the pro-opposition SOHR was saying. Thus on this point it was agreed to use it as a reliable/verifiable source. As for everything else, the dubious claims you mentioned, it was ok to included the information but only if properly attributed (which I have now done) and if there are other sources on the same subject that present a balanced POV in conjunction with Masdar (which we have plenty of on this story). The only time Masdar is not allowed to be used, as per earlier established consensus, is when its claiming something that is possibly pro-government propaganda and which isn't reported on by other pro-opposition or 3rd party sources. As for the bulkiness of the Battle section, yeah I agree its a bit large now and possibly we could discuss and find a way of cutting it down a bit. EkoGraf (talk) 08:04, 14 February 2018 (UTC)
