Thanks for uploading Image:Citadelsmoke.PNG. About Images

edit

Let's make this simple for everyone on Wikipedia, please stop replacing old pictures with new pictures. The pages about Half-Life series already contains necessary pictures about the game, so you do not have to add new pictures or change the current pictures. --Barneyinblue 16:21, 9 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi. I apologies for the rough start, but you are welcomed to discuss your images in User talk:MarphyBlack#HL2 Character Headshots and reach a possible agreement. We are concerned with the current quality of your images, as some of them are not on par with those that were replaced. We would like to hear your say of this issue, as we may be forced to revert your replacements if your fail to respond. Your participation is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, and happy editting! :) ╫ 25 ◀RingADing▶ 16:12, 10 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

I think the images he've uploaded are going to get deleted very soon. I hope he see his own talk page before pictures got deleted. --Barneyinblue 01:31, 14 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

It's me, GaMeRuInEr. I don't know if I'm in the right place, but oh well. I really do apologize if I've done any destruction to any of the articles. But if you wish, you can delete any and all of my pictures if you like. I hope you understand that I'm quite new at this and have a hard time deciding what and what not to touch. Again, I'm sorry for any destruction I've done to any of the HL series pages.

Hello, GaMeRuInEr. I just wanted to make clear: No one is of the opinion that you've caused destruction to any of the articles. Wikipedia is a place where anyone is free to contribute. The only concern here is whether the new pictures you added were actually improvements over the originals. There were no previously voiced complaints about the pictures we originally had, and going through the trouble to replace every single HL2 character image is certainly a large undertaking. I have listed my reasons as to why I believe the original screenshots were better for the articles. Again, I do not wish to imply that all of your edits were bad in some way. My main regard was simply over the HL2 headshots. My last intention would be to scare you away from editing here, and I certainly wouldn't feel good about it if I had. You're very welcome here at Wikipedia, I just suggest that in the future, should you want to take part in a large overhaul of several articles (In this case, the character headshots), you should probably check beforehand to see if there's any real consensus that people want new images. Of course, you should always be bold when editing, and I am not criticizing you at all for your actions. You should not be worried as to if you should be allowed to touch an article, because by all means you certainly are. I, along with everyone here, appreciate the edits of all contributors, and if something comes into conflict, we can always discuss the best way to handle the situation like here.
Since you have read the issues brought up against your HL2 character headshots, and you've given permission now, I will go through some of your image edits and replace them with the previous image versions now. MarphyBlack 12:14, 14 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

On image formats

edit

I noticed you like to upload PNGs. However the images you are uploading in PNG format are not very efficient for the web. JPEGs are strongly recommended for photographs and other complex images like game screenshots. PNGs are best used on the web for simple graphics. From now on, could you upload game screenshots compressed (only mildly if you like, for top quality) with JPEG? And if you feel like compressing the ones you've already uploaded, go for that as well. Don't forget to select the appropriate copyright tag, there's one specifically for game screenshots. It's in the dropdown menu when you upload a new image, and you can add it to existing game screenshot images by putting {{Game-screenshot}} in the image description. It would be good to have a url source for this image, as it would probably be deleted once it is featured on the main page. Do you know where it came from? Thunderbrand 16:24, 18 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

It was one of the official promo images for the X-Box port. You'll find it on numerous websites.

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Kleinerbreencast.PNG)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Kleinerbreencast.PNG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Fair use rationale for Image:Hlsourcelogo.PNG

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Hlsourcelogo.PNG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:43, 6 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

MW2

edit

The edits you've made on the MW2 page just seem to be wrong in some ways. For a start, it's best to keep it simple. Secondly, it reads a bit (to me, at least) like adding personal commentary onto the page, something Wikipedia frowns upon. There was a third, better reason when I undid it the first time, but I can't recall what that was right now. If I remember, I'll post back. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 23:57, 16 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
