Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Mr Gay South Africa has been reverted.
Your edit here to Mr Gay South Africa was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline. The external link(s) you added or changed (https://www.facebook.com/juan.pinnick, https://www.facebook.com/chris.emmanuel.921, https://www.facebook.com/charljaquairdo.vanhelsdingen) is/are on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy or request a change of username.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text

{{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

at the bottom of your talk page. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names.

 Thank you. Glen (talk) 05:28, 24 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

I have changed your username and will remove the block. Please review the conflict of interest and paid editing policies for information on formal disclosures you will need to make. Please also review how to make edit requests, which is how you should contribute to articles related to your conflict of interest. 331dot (talk) 08:39, 24 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much. I am really not sure how to disclose that I am the owner of the company and that I will be making updates / changes as needed? I am also trying to find the "how to" change the name of the article Mr Gay South Africa to Mr Gay World South Africa? Any assistance would be highly appreciated.

Hi John, good to see you're unblocked. I'll post a welcome message below which will have some info on how to request changes and declare your association with the articles. Regarding moving the page, as you're a brand new editor you can't move pages yet, however you will be able to when your account is four days old. In the meantime you can make a requested move at WP:RM. Welcome note follows, please read it carefully. Also don't forget to "sign" your posts on talk pages with ~~~~, that will automatically produce your name and date or you posts. Welcome again. Glen (talk) 09:52, 24 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hello, JohnGWE, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Eagleash I am hiding under the table now and hope that it I have done it correctly now *cross my fingers* JohnGWE (talk) 11:17, 25 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Well it's an improvement but there's still some way to go. Couple of quick points with regard to the refs; firstly, punctuation goes before the refs and it's conventional not to leave spaces before the opening tag or between tags. Multiple refs in one position aren't viewed favourably. also it needs a 'references' heading and the reflist template. Another point is that external links are not permitted in the content. These should be removed or turned into Wikilinks or references where appropriate or applicable. Much more important though is the copy-vio issue. This *must* be addressed before anything else really; if not, it is quite possible that somebody will nominate the item for deletion and you could even lose editing privileges. When it has been re-written in own words and ref'd up properly please notify me and I will request WP:REVDEL. Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 11:30, 25 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hello JohnGWE, and welcome to Wikipedia. While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. All other images must be made available under a free and open license that allows commercial and derivative reuse to be used on Wikipedia.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you.

It seems that a lot of the content has been copied from elswhere on the net. Wikipedia cannot accept such content unless the copyright holder is willing to WP:DONATE the content to Wikipedia. Eagleash (talk) 10:51, 25 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:Pink Loerie Mardi Gras and Arts Festival

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:Pink Loerie Mardi Gras and Arts Festival requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from issuu.com/pinkloeriemagazine/docs/pl2017companyprofile-version-3. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Fiddle Faddle 11:43, 25 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

You must write in your own words. Please allow this version to be deleted (whcih solves the legal issue) and create a new one in 100% your own words. Not close paraphrasing, but your own. Fiddle Faddle 11:47, 25 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Dear Fiddle I am NOT going to rewrite something into my own words that took us almost 3 months to write and fact check. We have been using the same content for years without any issues - from media releases to printed articles. I have submitted the content to 'permissions-commons@wikimedia.org' and await their confirmation. I am really disappointed by your remarks that it must be in my own words - do you think that the gold dust glitter covered forest fairies wrote it? :-) Have a splendid weekend JohnGWE (talk) 13:06, 25 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Dear Fiddle Just to proof my point - https://issuu.com/pinkloeriemagazine/docs/2012_pln and https://issuu.com/pinkloeriemagazine/docs/2015_plm - page 11 (if you use the pdf reader page number alternatively it is page 9). Pink Loerie Magazine is a registered publication with a ISBN number and is a registered company owned by us. We update the article every year as we go along. JohnGWE (talk) 13:24, 25 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

OK, you have started to donation process. Assuming it to be acceptable you need to understand that, once published, the article is Wikipedia's property and may be edited by any other editor. Since you have a WP:COI you will be very limited in the edits you may make after publication.
Please try not to be snarky. Our role as reviewers is to seek to ensure that an article will not immediately be subject to one of our deletion processes when it is accepted. That is why we push it back to the author. We want to accept articles. I am especially interested in accepting LGBTQ articles. Fiddle Faddle 15:34, 25 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Dear Fiddle apologies if came across as snarky. It is again misinterpreted. I will try and rewrite the information but it is really difficult. JohnGWE (talk) 16:04, 25 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

JohnGWE, I understand how, having written it once by the sweat of your brow, writing it a second time is devilishly hard. Let us both await your permission request and work from there. Many years ago I created an article in that manner. See [[1]] for the way it has to be handled on the talk page
The typed word is easy to misinterpret. I accept your apology that it came across in a way you had not intended Fiddle Faddle 16:24, 25 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

It would be insulting to post this notice here

edit

The template {{uw-paid1}} contains the correct advice for those whose editing, broadly construed (a formal thing. See Wikipedia:Broadly construed), can be considered to be for reward. My posting it as a warning notice here woudl be, I think, an insult. You have already complied to a great extent on your user page.

What uw-paid1 contains is a precise template you ought to consider for your user page. You need to consider as well {{Paid article}} and {{Connected contributor (paid)}}, the former for the article (or Draft) page and the latter for the article talk (or draft talk) page

Why?

Simply to stay on the right side if Wikipedia and we strange people who have given ourselves the self imposed duty of protecting the edifice. If you do these things it shows transparency. It's hard to argue with transparency.

Wikipedians in general deprectae any form of COI editing, bit the rules allow almost total freedom in Draft space. Once an article is an article the COI hudes become immense. Readng {{Request edit}} and using it well becomes important at that point. Lots to take on board, and I apologise for deluging you with it. Fiddle Faddle 16:38, 25 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Nathan2055 and Timtrent I removed the quote from the winner and changed my quote to sentence. JohnGWE (talk) 21:39, 25 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

That does make sense. I am loath to revert a fellow reviewer's review, but I wonder, Nathan2055 if you would consider doing so, assuming there was no copyvio at the time of review? Fiddle Faddle 21:44, 25 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
