Greg Martin (artist) moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, Greg Martin (artist), does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. — Amkgp 💬 18:05, 3 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Making references properly

edit

Hi there. Please read WP:REFSTART and WP:CITE on how to use ref tags when making citations. Directly putting links into articles is generally frowned upon and it would be highly appreciated if you clean up the citations you have already made, so that other editors do not have to clean up after you. Thank you.

Sdrqaz (talk) 22:33, 1 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Apologies for my mistakes, I'll use them properly for now on. Thank you for telling about this. I don't mean for this to happen. GeekFreak98 (talk) 22:39, 1 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Not a problem. Sorry for being rude about it; I hope you aren't discouraged from editing because of my message. Sdrqaz (talk) 22:43, 1 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

It's fine, I am still learning you know. I will use these citations properly and use them if nessecary. Have a good day, be safe. GeekFreak98 (talk) 22:46, 1 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I’m Serge, an Admin here on Wikipedia. I’m trying to be nice and work with you, but you don’t seem to be following, so here are some formal warnings:

  1. Every time you add content to Wikipedia, you need to add a source. As the editor above mentioned mentioned, there’s resources like WP:REFB that can help you learn how.
  2. Its important you use reliable sources. Things like wikias are not usable because they violate WP:USERG. Until you can identify reliable sources yourself, WP:VG/S has lists of sources generally considered usable or unusable.
  3. You may not say things like “there’s tons of sources look it up yourself” in edit summaries. That does not replace the need for adding an actual source, and per WP:BURDEN, if you want to make a change, you are the one who are required to find the sources for it.
  4. You need to find sources that directly state what you’re saying. For example, if you’re trying to cite that two fictional characters are in a relationship as you’ve done previously, you need a source that literally states as such. Saying something like “they held hands in a scene” violates our rule of no original research.

If you change your approach now, you’re good to go. But if I keep seeing you violating these basics I’ve outlined above, then your account may be temporarily blocked. Thank you. Sergecross73 msg me 00:35, 2 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Oh, I'm very sorry about this, I thought I'm still new, I've joined last year. I'm new to citations and I normally don't get in trouble here. I'm deeply sorry for violating the rules here on Wikipedia, forgive me. I thought people would know that Daisy and Luigi are a thing, you know. But anyway, again I'm very very sorry. I won't do anything like this again. I'll do further research and go to legit websites, not fandom and Wikias. My edit quality is good btw, I don't add stupid and unnessecary stuff in articles, I do mostly Metroid edits and I secure the Metroid Prime 4, just to make sure if someone changes the release date to "2023". I added TBA and I said the date will remain there until the release date is official.

Again, I'm deeply sorry for disobeying you, you can delete the citations I've linked,. I won't do it again, my lesson is learned. I just hope you still trust me, think I'm still mature enough to edit certain articles, and settle this.

Thank you. GeekFreak98 (talk) 15:30, 4 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

For first paragraph (typo):

It’s okay. As long as you’re making an effort to learn things, you’re fine. As I mentioned above, if you want examples of sources to use or not use, check out the lists at WP:VG/S. Sergecross73 msg me 18:41, 4 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, I do put effort when it comes to research. I won't make the same mistake again, I'll go to legit sites, not Wikias. GeekFreak98 (talk) 18:44, 4 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Sergecross73:...which is exactly what he did again here after having a weird lecturing outburst on Talk:Samus Aran. I know he's new and trying to learn, but doesnt understand what an encyclopedia is, as in what WP:N notability is versus WP:FANCRUFT. I dont think he knows that this is not a fansite. Feelings, fictional universes, and fandom are irrelevant. And again, above all, just now again snuck in a pointless wiki fansite url. Just jammed it into random wikicode, not even a citation. — Smuckola(talk) 00:50, 6 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
While the concept of “cruft” can take some time for newbies to understand, I’m rather concerned about the use of a fan wiki again. I’m pretty sure I’ve been pretty clear multiple times that fan wikis and WP:USERG content are not acceptable. Care to explain what’s going on, GF98? Sergecross73 msg me 01:23, 6 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
Okay, not only have you not answered me, you also are edit warring at the Samus Aran page (don’t do that - follow WP:BRD), using talk pages at a draft for Dark Samus (don’t do that), attempting to protect a page (you can’t - only admin can do this) and adding incredibly sloppy and typo riddled notes on pages too. Your every edit is being undone. I don’t feel you’re taking this seriously. At best, you’re being careless and need to slow down. Any more issues and your account is blocked. Sergecross73 msg me 02:18, 7 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, I have been doing something I didn't get a notification. Okay, about the fan wiki thing, I insert that link a while ago, way before you even you started this topic and I just said I'm not gonna just said I'm not gonna do fan Wikias. Trust me when I say I'm not doing Fan Wikias again and I am taking this seriously.

I completely understand why your angry with me and trust me when I say that I'm not ignoring you, I didn't get a notification. I'm respectful to all admins and even if I did link those citations, it was an accident, I thought they'll be legit. I've seen other editors linking citations to fandoms and suffer no consequences. Again I would never disobey you and all admins, never.

All I'm is that I apologise if I did send those citations after we talked, I thought it wasn't a fandom. I'm sorry for driving you crazy and I didn't mean to disobey you.

Can you go a little easy on me, I've only been an editor for like about a month.

It won't happen again.

I'm sorry. GeekFreak98 (talk) 17:15, 7 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

I am trying to work with you here. But your excuse for using fan wikis is provably false:
Everything is tracked and timestamped. You made that edit after you were warned and acknowledged you saw the warning.
Anyways, if anyone else is using wikias and not being warned, then it’s just because no one caught them. That doesn’t help people who get caught doing it. It just means these other people should be warned as well. Sergecross73 msg me 17:52, 7 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for giving me a chance m8. I will my change GeekFreak98 (talk) 17:55, 7 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Okay, I just told you that you don’t have the ability to protect pages, and then you went and tried to protect a page again. You’re blocked for 2 days. Please spend the time reading and understanding my warnings. This is the second time you’ve directly disregarded a very basic instruction, so clearly you’re not taking enough time with reading or understanding. Sergecross73 msg me 04:30, 8 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Okay, I completely understand. I'll learn from my mistakes. GeekFreak98 (talk) 14:03, 8 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

February 2021

edit

Is there a reason why you're trying to protect pages yourself again? I don't understand why you're still trying to do this. Regular editors do not have the ability to do this. I explained there are two ways to get this done, and it doesn't appear that you're doing either. What gives? Sergecross73 msg me 21:21, 2 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

The King Kong article has been heavily vandalized, I have a very good reason too. I'm tired of people putting inappropriate stuff in this article for example. Some one put "Kong has a large shaft, that produces like 3,000 sperm." I had it up to here and as you can see I'm not in the best mood when it comes to people vandalizing an article. This has happened a BUNCH OF TIMES!!! This article should be protected, I don't understand why you guys decided to leave it unprotected. GeekFreak98 (talk) 03:32, 3 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
Trying to place a fake protection on the page yourself won't deter vandals. When something like this happens, you should raise the concern up at WP:RFP. An admin will review your request and may go protect the article. Also, Serge himself also has a dedicated section on his talk page where people could report vandals or ask to have pages protected (I've reported multiple vandals before and Serge has always been on top of it). --ThomasO1989 (talk) 03:57, 3 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
Okay thank you, I'll request an article protection. I'm taking a break from Wikipedia, I'll appear here and there.nut don't expect me to pop up often. GeekFreak98 (talk) 05:07, 3 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
I'm not debating on whether or not it's needed, I'm asking you why you're trying to protect it yourself again when I've told you multiple times that you don't have the ability to. It doesn't matter whether it's vandalized one time or a thousand times, you still cannot protect it. I told you the ways to do it. You either need to put in a request at WP:RFPP, or ask an admin. You can't do it yourself. And requesting it on the article talk page usually isn't the best approach either. It only works if you have an admin watching over the article. And if they're already watching over the article, they probably don't need to be told about it, they likely are already aware of the problem. Sergecross73 msg me 14:40, 3 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Okay, sorry if I sounded aggressive yesterday. I'm still taking my break just to cool down and just to loosen my anxiety. GeekFreak98 (talk) 17:54, 4 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

You didn't sound particularly aggressive, but I do think it's a good idea to take a step back and re-evaluate things. Simple vandalism that's easily and quickly shouldn't cause you so much stress. If you're going to be an editor on Wikipedia, you're going to have to come to terms with the fact that vandalism is going to happen, especially if you're going to be editing active/mainstream things like popular Nintendo video games. It's just the way it is. Sergecross73 msg me 02:25, 5 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

I understand, thank you. Also...

I'm back from my break and planning on returning soon. I just wanted to say thank you for teaching me to be a better editor and thank you for going easy on me. I'll be returning in a couple of days or more. For now, I'll be checking on some articles.

Again, thank you GeekFreak98 (talk) 16:20, 9 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Mario infobox color

edit

Hello! The reason why it was removed is per discussion here where you can read in full an explanation of why it's no longer common practice. Also, you should consider joining Wikiproject video games too! There, you can keep up to date about changes to video game content (where I'm also discussing the Mario article right now). Panini🥪 13:02, 25 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! I'll join the Wikiproject video games! There I'll know what's going on, thank you for telling me this. I had no idea. GeekFreak98 (talk) 13:04, 25 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Of course. In fact, there's Wikiprojects for virtually everything. You can see Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory for details. Panini🥪 13:07, 25 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
