Spam in Logistics Management India magazine

speedys and COI

As the reviewing administrator, I've declined to delete the above as speedy, because I think it can be rewritten in a satisfactory manner, but it will quite likely be nominated for deletion otherwise if not much improved and the significance made clear.

Please read Wikipedia:Business FAQ. You are inserting apparently a fair large number of articles of possibly dubious notability without regard to WP:COI, and this is not to the interest of what I assume to be your employer. I urge you to stop immediately, to frankly state on the user page who you are and whom you work for, and to follow the suggestions at the pages referenced above. To justify an article on a trade magazine, it has to be shown as significant to an encyclopedia on the basis of references by others to it, circulation, established nature , and other standard considerations. No text may be taken from the magazines website, and the article must not be written in a manner suggesting PR--it has to be shown to be important by objective considerations, not just declared to be important. COI and My Details

I can assure you that I do not work for the said company. I am however a Business and Technology consultant and have fairly decent knowledge about Indian publishing industry as I have closely worked with several of them and intend to put it details about all other publication companies and histories that are fit for an encyclopedia. If you work for or have worked for these companies, then that does create a possible conflict of interest; you are urged to note such details in your discussions. Don't misunderstand: we welcome expert information, especially in underdeveloped portions of our knowledge base; but Wikipedia has a long history of efforts to unduly publicize obscure companies, publications, businessmen, and so forth by persons in the pay of said group. Just as my colleague above says, whether you are emplyed by them, are doing it as a consultant for them or for the industry generally, WP:COI applies. And even if doing it as a friend of the company or the industry, or even if I were to do it--and I have written a number of such articles for journals I know--the same rules for content and objectivity apply. Please be certain of the quality of your contributions, for as the edit box says, all contributions will be subject to merciless editing -- and evaluation to, by both the sympathetic and the skeptical.

Wikipedia may not be used as advertising to help get a publication or anything else notable--it must be notable first, and then it gets an article. I know it is difficult to get new journals established--it is a common statement in the industry that they do not even make a profit for the first three years. One way of showing notability for a publication is circulation, and figures from an independent audit bureau are acceptable, as well as from Ulrich's. Business publication are often controlled-circulation, where free copies are distributed to those proven to be in a position to buy the advertisers' products, and if so, this should be frankly stated--some famous magazines are in this class. I thing advertising revenue might work, if there were a reliable source; I don;t think it's been used here, but revenue is relevant to the notability of businesses generally. Another is having an editor in chief who are already well-known in the community. Being the leading publication in its field in India or Asia can be sufficient, if the field is wide enough to include other publications also that are not the leaders, and if a suitable objective statement can be found as a source. Being the only journal in India in a niche is probably not enough, unless the niche is really spectacularly important. But famous publisher alone is not enough--all publishers have some unsuccessful titles. But you've got to find something of the sort to justify the articles. DGG (talk) 01:06, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article JCK India magazine, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Varun Singh

Geekgyan, I have removed the multiple speedy tags that you added to Varun Singh. I'm not sure what's going on with that article, but adding multiple speedy tags, which are not really applicable to the article, is a misuse of the speedy deletion system. If you'd like the article deleted, please open a discussion at AfD with a rationale for why you want the page deleted. That would likely be a more constructive method. Thank you. Actually, that page does not even meet WP:G11: It is not exclusively promotional (in fact, it contains more information and links than peacock language), and does not need to be fundamentally rewritten to become encyclopedic.
