Bristol Virginia Utilities
I cut Bristol Virginia Utilities down to a stub to remove the copyvio, and then added a reference. Sometimes it's better to try to salvage a copyvio article than to delete it. -- Eastmain (talk) 23:23, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

- Wikipedia is not a soapbox. Wikipedia is not to be used as a promotion tool. The current article is propaganda and it needs major changes. As for orts.nl, Cite the page not just the website, and coverage needs to be more than just a passing mention. If you have the page, cite it in the article. A Wikipedia article must be based on what reputable publications say. Finally your, your username suggests a conflict of interest. If this is your party, you should not be writing about it in Wikipedia. • Gene93k (talk) 14:54, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (Image:Auburn-Washburn USD logo.gif)
Thanks for uploading Image:Auburn-Washburn USD logo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 15:46, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Typo redirect "Charles Kraus"
Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on "Charles Kraus", by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because "Charles Kraus" is a redirect page resulting from an implausible typo (CSD R3).
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting "Charles Kraus", please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. I repaired the malformed links. Then searching under the IMDB title of "The Thomas Crown Affair 2", I was able to find a bit. You are correct in that this was way too premature. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 00:38, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Deal W. Hudson - thread #2
Who are you? I have authorization to use those pieces on Wikipedia; you are creating a Biography that does not capture this living person's life in a balanced way. He has been targeted continuously because he is good at cutting through to the heart of political bullsxxt and you are contributing to this negative smear. Is it not possible in our country to recover from bad behavior in the past? Is it the object of your writing here to play into this? Have you never done anything for which if your wife your children your now admiring Wiki editorial buddies would know might cost you dearly? Please remove this whole Biography or allow me to create a professional full spectrum biography on this man!iop (talk) 20:35, 18 October 2008 (UTC) I have removed everything until I can get back at this tonight!iop (talk) 20:35, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
- 1. To answer your question, I'm just an editor trying to improve the quality of Wikipedia articles. Your edits brought the Deal W. Hudson page to my attention by landing it on the cleanup lists multiple times. • Gene93k (talk) 22:17, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
- 2. Copyrights (again). Copyright infringement undermines Wikipedia. You obviously didn't have permission to copy and paste from the New York Times. Permission to use Hudson-related text must be verifiable through OTRS (see WP:IOWN for details). • Gene93k (talk) 22:17, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
- 3. Primary sources (again) - Notability claims for Hudson cannot be based on sources affiliated with Hudson. Even if the permission is verified, it cannot used in a self-serving manner as you have done twice. • Gene93k (talk) 22:17, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
- 4. If you really are authorized to use Hudson's material, you may have a conflict of interest. • Gene93k (talk) 22:17, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
- 5. Deal W. Hudson is a public figure. The controversial things he says and does are part of his public profile. I reverted the attack page have tried to write a source-based neutral article. I am not here to sanitize the facts. It would have been easier for me to stand aside if your editing had been constructive. • Gene93k (talk) 22:17, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

Enchant of Hope
This man has been self-published and may not be identified in online world but he IS a notable personality. How can you negate someone who is propagating awareness for Gay Rights in a country like Pakistan and helping gay people to make peace with sexualities and asking them not to kill themselves. Will you not keep the record of such a person who is striving for something that is called T A B O O in Pakistani society? How can you delete Enchant of Hope's description when he is doing all that people in USA are free to do and the sword of Hudood Laws and Blasphemy Laws is hanging on is head. I think that deletion of Enchant of Hope will be an unwise idea. This man should stay here so that people should know about him. And I strongly oppose any move to delete him —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.99.190.142 (talk) 16:03, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
- I have not voted or stated an opinion in that debate. I just recorded that the debate is open. Also, please note that canvassing users to affect the outcome goes against Wikipedia's behavior guidelines. Finally, Wikipedia is not an outlet for gaining publicity. Your statements do not help the case for keeping Enchant of Hope. • Gene93k (talk) 16:38, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your message at my Talk page, which I just read. Good point. I was about to do the action you recommended, when I saw that someone had already been rearranging things. Because of the rearrangement, the page "Alistair Cooke's America" now is simply a redirect to "America: A Personal History of the United States"; this means that the article "Alistair Cooke's America", which was already a basic piece about that book of the same title and was to be expanded, is gone. This may be acceptable, since the book Alistair Cooke's America is a companion to the television documentary America: A Personal History of the United States; but, if they should be separate articles, how do we regain the text about the book that used to be at "Alistair Cooke's America"? I'm under the impression that the short text about the book that used to be at that address is now simply gone. — President Lethe (talk) 00:26, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
- The admin did a history merge. The book stub is preserved in the edit history at this revision. If you want to work from the redirect, it is up to you to take care of the incoming links to the TV series. Since Alastair Cooke's America commonly refers to the series, please consider adding a hatnote at the very least. Dabbing the book title is an idea I would consider, but it's your decision. • Gene93k (talk) 01:07, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

I think that this AFD has reached a consensus and no one has posted on it for a few days, but I'm not quite sure how to close it...Illinois2011 (talk) 21:48, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- There's is the non-admin closure option, but this AfD is a few hours short of the regular 5-day run anyway. The admins should get to this shortly, but there's a backlog from October 23 to clear first. • Gene93k (talk) 22:04, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Copyvio
Hi. You do great work with the copyvios. (Not just saying that; I see your name a lot at CP and appreciate your time.) I'm dropping by to ask you to consider using {{copyvio}} when you list them, though. That template does have the advantage not only of providing a link for the temporary page rewrite, but also of displaying all necessary information for contributors other than the original who may wish to supply permission. It also keeps us from publishing the copyright violation for the 7 day term of investigation, which can help prevent it continuing to proliferate in various Wiki mirrors. If it is an infringement, that can help keep us from infringing more widely than we already have. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 21:11, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
- I'll do that, and thanks. • Gene93k (talk) 21:16, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

Sources
After much prodding and pushing, people have finally started citing sources. Please revisit the discussion and read and evaluate the sources. Show the single-purpose accounts and novice editors how established Wikipedia editors will have a proper AFD discussion, focussed upon looking for, citing, reading, and evaluating sources. You'll have to navigate a lot of irrelevant chatter to find the citations, and the actual discussions thereof, but I've tried to make them prominent. Uncle G (talk) 01:06, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I just closed Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Office of the president elect as the nominator has withdrawn from the AfD. While this does not always warrant a closure of the AfD, the article in question (United States Office of the President-Elect) has substantially changed in such a way that a closure is warranted in my opinion. If you wish, you can renominate the page for AfD, but the concerns would surely have to be different. Thanks. DARTH PANDAduel 03:55, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
musiconradio.com
Gene,
I am the the site owner for music on radio.com. I noticed you tagged me for deletion. I ask you to search Google we have over 2000 results. I ask you to also view other sites similar to ours on the category Internet Itunes. Those stations list information similar to ours and some lack references. Please guide me for changes you think are necessary. Thank you for your consideration.

- The number of Google hits does not establish notability. Non-trivial references from the the reputable media (see Wikipedia:Reliable sources) do count towards establishing notability. Press releases, blogs, and affiliated websites don't count. I did not see any quality sources among the 2,500 hits. • Gene93k (talk) 19:43, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
- First of all, if you want to help the article, please be aware of Wikipedia's policies about conflict of interest. Apparent self-promotion landed this article in trouble. The best thing to do at this stage would be to identify reputable media sources in the deletion debate or on the article's talk page so that other editors can improve the article. • Gene93k (talk) 19:43, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
Stan Grossman deletion
This article I created FULLY supports Wikipedia's standards. It included several links to other sources supporting the claims of the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Paulmw98 (talk • contribs) 22:39 1 December 2008 (UTC)
- The editors at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Stan Grossman (character) reached a different consensus. The Stan Grossman (character) article was a novel synthesis of published material in violation of Wikipedia's no original research policy. You are welcome to take the issue to deletion review. Otherwise, without more reliable sources, the matter is closed. • Gene93k (talk) 23:37, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
Page Protection
You seem like someone who knows a bit about Wikipedia. How do I go around getting a page protected? That school page I blanked keeps getting vandalised! Any advice would be appreciated. Cls14 (talk) 18:48, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
- The problem appears to be one or two active vandals. I think vigilance is the best approach at this stage. One vandal has already been blocked indefinitely. TDogg186, who seems to be making vandalism-only edits, just got his/her 3rd warning. If TDogg186 keeps it up, calling the admins is the next step. • Gene93k (talk) 20:27, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
- You can request to have the page semi-protected at requests for page protection. Semi-protection would restrict edits to established registered editors. The rate of vandalism does not appear to justify that yet. • Gene93k (talk) 20:27, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

Howto issues in aquarium fish pages
Could you please contribute to the discussion on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Aquarium_Fishes#Howto_issues ? It has become fairly standard to include information about how to keep aquarium species(for examples see the in the aquarium sections for Neon tetra, Black neon tetra, and the Care and breeding section of the Pterophyllum page) and if this is against the Howto part of wikipedia policy it should be made clear in the Aquarium Fishes WikiProject.
Thanks

Thanks and happy holidays
A good while back, when I was just starting out here (and fairly clueless), I posted an entry about Charles Walcott (MP). You took the time to point out on my talk page that I hadn't provided any references. You were dead-on, and that made me take the time to learn how to do wiki footnotes. Thank you for taking the time to actually point out my error to me, instead of simply deleting what I'd written (which would have been understandable). Thanks to you, I've gone on to post many more entries -- with footnotes! :-) Thanks again, and the best of holidays to you and your loved ones.
