ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Germantown

edit

You started the article on Germantown, which was start formed by followers of Count de Leon. Could you tell me where you found the information that the group was pacifistic? - 2003:DE:6F1B:9F00:91D9:841D:EBD2:EDB5 (talk) 16:25, 23 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

The Harmony Society was a pacifistic group, which is well documented on that page and in the literature about them, and the self-titled "Count de Leon" aka Bernhard Müller started his group with dissenters from that group that disagreed with the Harmony Society leader George Rapp's policy of celibacy during the schism of 1832 in Old Economy Village, Pennsylvania. As far as the Germantown Colony offshoot group that settled in Louisiana, it's doubtful that their views were all too different than the old Harmonites in most ways, with perhaps some exceptions. I remember reading something in one of the Karl J. R. Arndt books about the Germantown Colony having some trouble economically during the Civil War years for not supporting the Confederate war effort, or something of the sort. I know that the original Harmonites were not just pacifists who refused to serve in any war but that they also opposed slavery. I doubt that the views of those in the Germantown Colony differed too much from the old Harmonite views as far as that goes either, but for anyone wanting to know more about any of these specific groups I recommend the books that Karl J. R. Arndt wrote about all of 'em. Geneisner (talk) 09:17, 15 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
