- Learn the basics by reading the introduction and taking the tutorial.
- Remember to sign messages on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~) to automatically insert your username and the date.

- Create your first article using the Article Wizard to help avoid common mistakes, which may lead to article deletion.
- Although you don't need to be familiar with all of Wikipedia's policies, try to keep to the core principles and basic guidelines.
- When dealing with fellow Wikipedians, please remain polite, solve problems calmly, and remember that no-one is out to get you.
- Get involved with the community by joining a WikiProject.
- Make any test edits in the sandbox or click here and create a sandbox of your own.
- If you are having difficulty, consider finding a mentor to give you more personal advice.
- If in doubt, be bold. If you make a mistake, it can easily be reverted.
If you need any more information, plenty of help is available - check out Wikipedia:Questions; ask your question here and attract help with the code {{helpme}}

License tagging for File:LivingOceansEdit.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:LivingOceansEdit.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.
To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 19:06, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
Hey there Geofflos, thank you for your contributions. I am a bot, alerting you that non-free files are not allowed in user or talk space. I removed some files I found on User:Geofflos/Living oceans society. In the future, please refrain from adding fair-use files to your user-space drafts or your talk page.
- See a log of files removed today here.
- Shut off the bot here.
- Report errors here.

Orphaned non-free image File:LivingOceansEdit.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:LivingOceansEdit.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude2 (talk) 05:36, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
Problems with upload of File:Los09.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:Los09.jpg. You don't seem to have said where the image came from, who created it, or what the copyright status is. We require this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator.
To add this information, click on this link, then click the "Edit" tab at the top of the page and add the information to the image's description. If you need help, post your question on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Wikipedia user policy
editThanks for declaring your interest in LOS. However, Wikipedia does not permit accounts for whole organizations, only individuals. Since your name may indeed be Geoff, and you edit for LOS, the username is fine, but you should clarify the text at the top of User:Geofflos. --Lexein (talk) 21:16, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
I appreciate the advice and I think I've clarified my COI on the topo of the page. Geofflos (talk) 22:51, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks! That's excellent. Now, per WP:COI, the main way to reduce the COI problems at the LOS article are to limit editing to non-controversial removals of errors and vandalism, and adding independent sources, paying attention to maintaining a neutral point of view, to support the claims made in the article. For article content additions, make suggestions on the Talk page.
- Thanks for diving in to source the LOS article. I've put back a few of the LOS citations - primary sources are ok to have, as long as independent RS support all claims made. --Lexein (talk) 23:53, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
Some other Living Oceans Society?
editFound this reference to a Living Oceans Society in 1982. Which organization is that?
- "Which is the Experimenter?". Popular Mechanics. November 1982. p. 42.
--Lexein (talk) 01:38, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
Yes, it must be another outfit that I've never heard of, lost in time before the dawn of the Internet. Thanks for digging that up. BTW I enjoyed the Beatles vs. Jesus comparison. Lennon called that one correctly and adroitly sidestepped the apology he was forced into. I'll keep chipping away at the references for the Living Oceans Society.
FYI
editNo big deal, but "Minor" edits are things like single-character (non-controversial) spelling fixes, or spacing. See WP:MINOR. Adding prose or citations is always "major". --Lexein (talk) 23:46, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (File:Los09.jpg)
editThanks for uploading File:Los09.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:31, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
File permission problem with File:Proposed tanker routes and tanker prohibition zone.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:Proposed tanker routes and tanker prohibition zone.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Magog the Ogre (t • c) 16:50, 19 July 2014 (UTC)
