Repeated edits

When editing an article or its talk page, please use "Show preview" below the edit window to preview your edit after each minor change until you are satisfied with it. Only then should you use "Save page" to save all changes at once. This prevents the appearance in quick succession of an excessive number of contributions from one editor in that page's "History" (tab at the top of page in the default skin). Many thanks for the information. I'm just a novice - 70 + and used to write on rock as a youth, but a novice with these new-fangled machines. Splitting comments

DO NOT split another user's comment in order to comment on each phrase individually. That belittles the comment of the other user by shattering it into pieces. It also effectively removes that user's Wikipedia signature from the pieces, converting them into anonymous comments. Your comments cannot even be inserted between the paragraphs of another user's comment because that also removes their Wikipedia signature from early paragraphs. Previously, you repeated certain phrases in order to comment on them individually, which is permissible. In any case, the wording of your comment normally makes it clear what you are referring to. The only changes normally allowed to another's comment is to autosign their comment if they failed to do so, or to indent it with a colon (:) (or unindent it) so that it is not vertically aligned with the immediately preceding comment, thus distinguishing the two comments. I have been tempted many times over the last few years to correct minor spelling and grammatical errors but have resisted the temptation. You are welcome to refactor your own comment so that it makes more sense after my reintegration, but I cannot for the above reasons. — Joe Kress (talk) 20:42, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Sorry. I didn't appreciate the etiquette and won't do it again. Believe it or not, my 'contribution', though off the conventional beam, is intended seriously, and has been previously accepted seriously and sent to the observatory at Teide for investigation - but with what results I have not been informed.
