Survey Invite
editI'm working on a study of political motivations and how they affect editing. I'd like to ask you to take a survey. The survey should take 5 minutes. Your survey responses will be kept private. Our project is documented at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Research:Wikipedia_%2B_Politics.
I am asking you to participate in this study because you are a frequent editor of pages on Wikipedia that are of political interest. We would like to learn about your experiences in dealing with editors of different political orientations.
Sincere thanks for your help! Porteclefs (talk) 18:29, 8 August 2017 (UTC)

edit"Utilize"
editIn the future, when I revert your change of "Utilize" to " use", it would be preferable if you do not revert again. Instead, use the article's talk page to explain why "Utilize" is incorrect in the context of the sentence in which it is used, and we can discuss it in detail there. Please note that I didn't revert your change here, as "Utilize" was used incorrectly. Thanks. - BilCat (talk) 20:17, 8 May 2020 (UTC)
Also, please note that Wikipedia:Basic copyediting is not part of the Wikipedia:Manual of Style (MOS). As stated in the box at the top of the "Basic copyediting" page: "This help page is a how-to guide. It details processes or procedures of some aspect(s) of Wikipedia's norms and practices. It is not one of Wikipedia's policies or guidelines, as it has not been thoroughly vetted by the community."
(Bold in original, but I added the italics.) Thanks. - BilCat (talk) 20:30, 8 May 2020 (UTC)
BilCat, I don't understand you're preference for this vocabulary. You have not provided any reasons why it is preferable, only stating that in is valid or acceptable. Also, I don't understand your disdain for the Basic Copyediting page. When you raised the issue there, the two other people who also contributed did not agree with you. Of course it's not law, but it is linked to from the Manual of Style, and it reflects the consensus of the few people who care enough about these things to edit it. I think that is a better forum for this argument than every page that I edit and you revert.
I would ask you to also follow your own advice and also not revert my edits without raising it on the talk page. Thank you. Gfox88 (talk) 20:40, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
- In case you missed it, Jonesey95 has updated the Copyediting guide here. It now reads
and (in almost all cases) "utilize" for "use".
So there is no consensus that "Utilize" should never be used. As to why it is correct in this instance, I'm reluctant to explain, because I'm genuinely not sure you'd understand my explanation. But I'd rather have that sort of discussion on the article's talk page where other editors of the article can participate. - BilCat (talk) 22:26, 9 May 2020 (UTC)

editCrewed vs. manned
editStop your war against the use of "crewed" please. Crewed is preferred. This example is explicitly listed in the Manual of style. If you think that's wrong start a proposal to change the Manual of Style, but don't change "crewed" to "manned" in tons of article while hiding your edit reason with some other irrelevant changes. --mfb (talk) 02:50, 29 April 2021 (UTC)
- My bad. I have a browser extension that changes it because it personally annoys me, but I don't intend to change it in the edits. I think that the extension must be changing it in the edit window and I haven't been aware of it until now. I will disable that extension when I am editing. Gfox88 (talk) 15:07, 29 April 2021 (UTC)

Little Boy
editI applaud your impulse to standardise the primary units, but as a scientific article it should be metric first. John (talk) 18:50, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- I'm fine if you would like to do that. Previously there was an inconsistent mix of US and metric. Gfox88 (talk) 19:10, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
