Speedy deletion nomination of Mark Doyon

A tag has been placed on Mark Doyon requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Another Michael Lloyd band

I found a psychedelic group called the Fire Escape, which was produced by (who else?) Michael Lloyd and Kim Fowley. They teamed up with some unknown session musicians to record the album Psychotic Reaction, which has mostly covers of popular music of the era. I thought it would interest you since you seem to keep an eye on Fowley and you wrote the detailed article on Lloyd. Interesting enough, it is suggested Sky Saxon played on the album as well.TheGracefulSlick (talk) 15:28, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

The Velours

Hi

We updated the Velours Wikipedia earlier today only to find that John's comments have been deleted - The changes were made on behalf of John Cheatdom the sole living member of The Velours and the Fantastics. We are happy for you to delete the reference to John's up and coming autobiography and totally respect your comments in this regard. However the additions made are factual and we would kindly request that you re instate John's comments.

We would be very grateful if you can advise us on the process we need to undertake to make the amendments required.

Thanking you in anticipation. 21:04, 1 April 2016 (UTC)21:04, 1 April 2016 (UTC)~~ (RAD4292 (talk) 21:04, 1 April 2016 (UTC))John Cheatdom and Ricky Daniel

Opening sentence in garage rock article

I noticed that another editor (LognailsShortHair) removed the "pop" clause from the opening sentence in the Garage rock article. I remember that you had put it there a couple of years ago, so I thought I'd pass this by you. I myself am OK with either version of the wording--his or yours. His wording might have the constructive effect of staving off the kind of unsigned editors who have been plaguing the opening statement for the last year or so. But, I'll go along with your best judgment on it. Either way is fine with me. Garagepunk66 (talk) 07:34, 4 April 2016 (UTC)

I saw that, but don't really have a strong view either way. Ghmyrtle (talk) 07:37, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
I suppose either way is fine. Thanks, Garagepunk66 (talk) 07:50, 4 April 2016 (UTC)

The phrase cover version

Hi, I've just seen your note at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Music#Use of term "cover version" in popular music, written exactly six months ago. Interesting point, and I've replied there. Cheers, Rothorpe (talk) 00:33, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

Thanks. I'd forgotten I'd made that comment, and it will be interesting if anyone else responds - perhaps it's unlikely. In the meantime, what I should do is look out some sources for the earlier original meaning (I'm sure I've seen them before), and do some work on the cover version article itself. Ghmyrtle (talk) 07:15, 9 April 2016 (UTC)
I've also replied there. But, I think it makes little sense to edit the article before consensus is achieved on what it should say. Pstoller (talk) 00:25, 10 April 2016 (UTC)

Britain (place name)

I thought I'd explained all this to the editor on my talk page. Doug Weller talk 14:58, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

Guys guys, I am serving you the truth on a golden plate. To put it frankly- current article is 2 pages of &*%^$s with no answer. Belief that Britain's name is unique is idiotic, and result of Island's isolation and 300 years of collonial past. Stupid pride, nothing else. I chose to put self-evident facts rather that personal opinions (thank you Doug for letting me know), and to humply point out that there are more toponyms with root brit/brat etc. all over Europe, but you anglo-saxons are not willing to swollow even that. Should I send it to a peer review magazine? This is bunch of monkeys, cheating, bullying, stealing ideas, this is current sciense. I do not bother. I am collecting more and more toponyms, I certainly let you know when the list is complete. Ciao --Janklasovity (talk) 20:12, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi Ghmyrtle. I saw that someone posted this in the United Kingdom talk page. What do you think that was about or what was the IP trying to say? (N0n3up (talk) 00:57, 10 April 2016 (UTC))

No idea - but clearly a personal message unrelated to improving the article, so out it went. Ghmyrtle (talk) 07:38, 10 April 2016 (UTC)

Emile Ford

Hello, apologies, I'm relatively new to wiki editing (I think I might have edited a couple of articles ten years ago or so but the rules have changed (for the better) since then so forgive any incompetence on my part.) The press release was written by Emile's brother and it's been updated accordingly to hopefully ensure it's clearer. Any other feedback appreciated, thanks again, and hopefully this is the right way to respond to your message — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mrpjones (talkcontribs) 10:32, 22 April 2016‎

Jack Ely on Richard Berry and "Louie Louie"

I found a little video where Jack Ely (from the first lineup of the Kingsmen--vocalist on "Louie Louie") reminisces about Richard Berry and the writing of the song. I found it really interesting. I have a feeling you'll enjoy it. [[1]] Garagepunk66 (talk) 02:19, 30 April 2016 (UTC)

P.S.: I've noticed some editors have been making changes to the Acid rock article, and while they may have made some positive improvements here and there, it seems that they have also made some detrimental moves, particularly in the lead section, which used to be written in a good paragraph style, but has now degenerated into a list of bullet points using inappropriate colloquial expressions and other un-encyclopedic wording. Garagepunk66 (talk) 04:44, 30 April 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the heads up. The acid rock article doesn't look too bad overall, but the lead section was fairly dire, so I've had a go at prosifying it. I'm sure one or two of the regular editors at that page will comment..... Ghmyrtle (talk) 09:29, 30 April 2016 (UTC)

Merge

Do you agree with me, and think that these articles – Dirty blues and List of dirty blues musicians – would be better merged into one ? The subject matter(s) is not lengthy in content, there seems to be much duplication, and whilst well referenced (guess who), these is not much room for expansion in content under either heading. No rush needed in replying. I know you are 'away' at present and one of them has a history going back to 2007, and the other over two years. I would not expect much response to a merger discussion on both article's talk pages – a deadly silence the most likely result. It is probably best to go through the merger 'procedures' all the same, but I would welcome your intial thoughts.

Cheers,

Derek R Bullamore (talk) 13:23, 13 May 2016 (UTC)

Yes - I would suggest that the list article is fairly redundant - the referencing is OK, but it duplicates other articles, and we also have Category:Dirty blues musicians. So, I'd support merging the text of the list into the main article, and then we can expand it from there. Ghmyrtle (talk) 21:43, 16 May 2016 (UTC)
Thank you. I have followed the Wikipedia:Merging instructions up to Step 3 although, as there has not been any 'major or most-recent contributors' (except for us two), then I have not contacted anyone else. I will follow the editing advice given of "If you propose a merger, and nobody objects within 30 days, then it is unlikely that any editor will object to you boldly performing the merger", and see what transpires in that time period. I hope you do not mind me copy and pasting your response above into Talk:Dirty blues. Not like me to follow the rules here, but what the hell, there is a first time for everything !
I trust you are hale and hearty. I am mainly fat and farty. Cheers,

Backwards Sam Firk

Perhaps not quite in the category that surely includes The Mighty Hannibal, Washboard Willie, Baby Tate, Boogie Woogie Red, Lonesome Sundown, Lefty Dizz, Ironing Board Sam, Barrelhouse Chuck, Hip Linkchain, Willie Love, or even Fanlight Fanny, it is nevertheless a decent effort for a stage name. Anyhow, it keeps me amused. Regards,

Barry Levenson

The usual question - can you locate a date of birth for this time-served American blues guitarist. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States.... mmmm, circa 1954 ? Cheers, - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 20:39, 24 May 2016 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure that I know his full name, his current age (67), and where he lives. Putting two and two together I come up with a birth date of September 1, 1948... .. but there's a fair amount of guesswork in all that, it could be wrong, and I don't think you can use it. Maybe I can get work as a private investigator..... Ghmyrtle (talk) 21:13, 24 May 2016 (UTC)
PI Myrtle perhaps ?! Thanks all the same, I'll crack on regardless - nearly done on him anyhow. - Derek R Bullamore (talk)
Re the article: I don't think he could have been 14 in 1968. Is that actually what the sources say? Ghmyrtle (talk) 13:28, 26 May 2016 (UTC)
A bit of synergy perhaps, but this reference stated " Epiphany struck when an older harmonica-playing friend gave Levenson the album that inspired him to begin playing the guitar--Buddy Guy’s watershed LP, A Man and the Blues", whilst this one stated "Barry Levenson hails out of Pittsburgh and started his love affair with the Blues at the young age of 14, after being introduced to the music of Buddy Guy via an older friend". Without a definitive date of birth, I just let it go. Do you know any different ? _ Derek R Bullamore (talk) 13:41, 26 May 2016 (UTC)
Only that I'm 99.999% sure that he was born in 1948 - but my sources don't really meet WP:RS standards. It's up to you, but I'd probably phrase it slightly differently to gloss over some of the dubious detail - maybe to miss out the "at the age of 14". These things can easily get confused in interviews anyway - for instance, he may have said both that he got interested at the age of 14, but his "epiphany" came with that later album... or he may just be trying to hide his age... or whatever.. Who knows (or cares)? Ghmyrtle (talk) 14:10, 26 May 2016 (UTC)
I changed it to "His affection for the blues commenced at the age of 14, and gained more inspiration later when an older friend of his played him Buddy Guy's 1968 album, A Man and the Blues" - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 14:21, 26 May 2016 (UTC)

Other Music death lists

As there is talk of the Rock and Roll deaths list only being for Rock and Roll artists. Are there other music related death lists? As the list has been locked for several months, I feel that a lot of information has been missed and people will stop looking at the list if it's not updated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AndrewdavisonRnR (talkcontribs) 08:56, 25 May 2016 (UTC)

I've added a few recent names to that list, and hopefully others can do so. Of course, you can add names yourself once you make a few more edits and become "autoconfirmed". Or, you can ask the administrator to remove the protection. There is List of deceased hip hop artists, if you're interested. Shirelles & Decline of Rock

Hi Everyone,

I have found a line in the section marked "Decline" to be a serious mischaracterization. The line said that "The "feminisation" of rock" and the rise of groups like The Shirelles contributed to the decline in early rock's popularity. I find this to be a serious mischaracterization and the cited source isn't particularly helpful, either.

The rest of the "Decline" Wiki section marks specific events in the history of rock that changed the public's intake/perception of the genre, such as Buddy Holly's death and the Payola scandal. The popularity of The Shirelles and other 'girl groups' or the so-called "feminisation" of rock did not play any particular role in the decline in the genre's popularity. Characterizing love songs as a "feminisation" is also questionable, since Buddy Holly and other rock figures listed before the "Decline" wrote popular love songs.

Discussion of The Shirelles and girl groups makes more sense, organizationally, in the "Doo-Wop" section of this article because their sound was described as doo-wop and/or R&B.[1] The Shirelles are also described as pre-cursors to Motown performers as African-Americans appealing to black and white audiences, which again has more direct topical connection to Doo-Wop and therefore belong in the "Doo-Wop" section.[2]

In The Shirelles Wiki article itself, there is no mention of the group's role in the "decline" of rock music. This description seems to me to be an extreme mischaracterization of the decline of rock music's popularity.

Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.138.163.190 (talk) 13:11, 25 May 2016 (UTC)

Jock Scot bio question

Hi Guy- I saw your edit fixing the ref by the IP editor who added the bit including Scot's child's name. As you are experienced with bios, and I not so much, I wanted to ask you if you think Poppy's name should be in the article. I reverted the same IP's addition to the Anna Chancellor article after referring to WP:BLPNAME, but thought I should check with someone before removing Poppy from Scot's. I now think I probably cut too deep and should have left the mention of Scot, maybe along the lines of "Chancellor had a daughter/child with British poet..." Thanks in advance for any input. Eric talk 21:53, 30 May 2016 (UTC)

I would have no objection if the name were removed because of privacy concerns - she is not notable, but is named in reliable sources, so a case can be made either way. Ghmyrtle (talk) 08:32, 31 May 2016 (UTC)

Carla Lane

In the existing sources, Obits, "What Links Here" to the article, and a glimpse of Amazon....it appears that Carla was quite close close with Linda and Paul McCartney. Possibly writing music, book collaboration, etc. I was not sure how to fit that into the article, or if it is relevant. Possibly you could have a look at her work/career/friendships outside of television. Gabs Blue Labs (talk) 10:18, 1 June 2016 (UTC)

It would be better if this were raised on the article talk page, so that other editors can consider it as well. It's true that she was friendly with Paul and Linda McCartney, but I'm not sure how notable that fact is - I'm sure she had many friends. Ghmyrtle (talk) 10:20, 1 June 2016 (UTC)

New sections in G.R. article

I just added a section on the Pacific Northwest to the G.R. article. It was something I meant to do a while back, but now it is in there. I've gone through a few rounds of changes today, since I put it in, but I think you will like it a lot. I think you'll really dig the origins section. Because the Pacific Northwest 1964-1968 section needed a photo due to its large size, I moved the picture of Paul Revere & the Raiders down to there. I found a public commons photo of Chris Montez to put in origins, which due to its expanded size needed new sub-sections. Under Paul Revere, I had to switch the diagonal direction of the pictures. I needed to make size adjustments to accommodate that--in order to achieve and attractive pictorial and graphic composition. Take look and see if it needs any tweaks. Thanks, Garagepunk66 (talk) 07:23, 8 June 2016 (UTC)

Thanks, for your touch ups. Garagepunk66 (talk) 17:47, 8 June 2016 (UTC)
Just put some extra info. into Decline section of G.R. I moved the statements about final decline and the Balloon farm down to the bottom of the paragraph to achieve a more logical narrative flow, so I think you'll like it. Thanks, Garagepunk66 (talk) 03:15, 9 June 2016 (UTC)
I added a couple more sections, so you could check to see if there is anything to correct or improve. Luckily, I think I now have just about al of the sections I had wanted to add (whew!), so now my focus could be on enhancing the sections there. Maybe, if you have some time, you could help beef up the Peak of popularity section--I know that you had mentioned it needed improvement--I have a felling you have some good sources that would be beneficial. Lead of UK EU Referendum article

You might be interested in Talk:United Kingdom European Union membership referendum, 2016#Lead balance. Absolutelypuremilk (talk) 14:37, 19 June 2016 (UTC)

Thanks - but, as I say, balance is in the eye of the beholder. While there may or may not be a rough equivalence between the arguments, and ultimately between the overall number of voters for either side, there is certainly not an equivalence in the numbers of notable supporters on each side, which makes the judgement of appropriate balance very difficult - for organisations like the BBC as much as for us. Top of the Pops

Today is the day of the EU Referendum. More importantly, today is the day when we get to find out whether Jonathan King appears in a repeated edition of Top of the Pops on BBC4 with Peter Powell, from 7 January 1982.[2] Will the BBC show his USA chart insert, or will it have been tipped down a memory hole in the BBC archive? I can hardly wait until 7:30 this evening.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 10:00, 23 June 2016 (UTC)

I am hanging like a damp cloth. I shall postpone my impending decision until I know the outcome. Ghmyrtle (talk) 10:04, 23 June 2016 (UTC)
There are quite a few of these appearances coming up from the early 1980s TOTP reruns, so if 7 January 1982 is sans King, it won't look good for the others yet to come. And don't hold your breath looking for BBC4 reruns of Entertainment USA.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 10:09, 23 June 2016 (UTC)
And the result was "No King". Assuming the list here is correct (and it looks to have been compiled by someone who knows about these things) then King's USA chart insert was removed from the BBC4 repeat. I had a feeling about this even before the show was broadcast, as the current BBC4 reruns fit into a 30 minute slot although TOTP in the early 1980s was typically 35 minutes long.[3] I wonder if anyone else will notice this.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 19:09, 23 June 2016 (UTC)
Given the above comments, and those recently posted at my talk page, am I missing something obvious here ? The BBC's general editorial policy has always been acting as "Auntie" in all matters.
The TOTP re-runs invariably have me in stitches, imaging some 'bright young thing' watching avidly and then turning to their elders and saying "Oh grandad, you did look a right bugger in that hat!" Thank goodness for Later... with Jools Holland, the Beeb's ongoing coverage of the Glastonbury Festival, and some of those excellent documentaries that appear spasmodically late at night on BBC Four. For all its faults when covering popular music, the Best Broadcasting Corporation always beat the commercial channels hands down - always did, always will. So there,

60s Garage Bands.com down

Mike Dugo's 60s Garage Bands.com is down. I don't know whether that is permanent or temporary. I emailed Chris Bishop at Garage Hangover to ask him about it. He said that it is unlikely that Dugo's site will return. We have to hope for that possibility. I asked if he might be able to contact Dugo about transferring some of the interviews, or at least to transfer some of the information. He mentioned that that there are money/space constraints dealing with the servers, but that he could see what can be done. I know that Beyond the Beat Generation features many of Dugo's interviews, so I contacted them too. I just hope that there is something we can do. Do you have any advice? Would the citations we have for Dugo's site still be considered valid? Garagepunk66 (talk) 19:17, 24 June 2016 (UTC)
You might be able to dig them out using Wayback Machine or something similar - but in many cases they are very lightly viewed articles, so it's possible that no-one would notice any problem for quite some time. Ghmyrtle (talk) 19:19, 24 June 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the tip. My hope is that eventually the info. will find its way to other sites, if Dugo's site cannot return. Garagepunk66 (talk) 19:21, 24 June 2016 (UTC)
It works!! [4] Thanks as always (I know I've given you some headaches, but I always appreciate your help). Garagepunk66 (talk) 19:31, 24 June 2016 (UTC)

Future of the UK

You undid Anti-British_sentiment revision 726930813 due to WP:CRYSTAL. Correct. For the same reason I deleted also the "The relationship the UK has with the EU will no doubt develop and unfold over the coming years." sentence in Economy_of_the_United_Kingdom. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.49.35.74 (talk) 21:06, 27 June 2016 (UTC)
