RfA thanks
Thank you for the trust you placed in me by supporting my RfA (which passed and, apparently, I am now an admin!). I will do my best to continue to act in a way that is consistent with the policies of wikipedia as well with our common desire to build and perfect this repository of human knowledge; and can only hope that you never feel that your trust was misplaced. Userpage deletion
Was getting rid of some edit summary vandalism -- back now. NawlinWiki (talk) 00:58, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
Deletion
User:Gogo Dodo deleted an article I created ostensibly under notability guidelines with no debate or any chance for me to respond to his allegation. Notability guidelines as I understand them are loose enough that in the case of the article that was deleted, the bare minimum of politeness would have necessitated some period of debate or discussion as to determine notability. His "contribution" was certainly not constructive and yet no one is affixing warnings to his talk page. This is a great way to drive new editors away and to restrict Wikipedia into the oligarchical domain of a nerd elite. Mbroderick271 (talk) 02:22, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
- That's called speedy deletion, it's when they delete your article for not being notable enough. When we discuss whether or not an article should be deleted that's called article for deletion. Did I say that too fast for you?--Iamawesome800 Talk to Me 02:51, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
- The article meets notability guidelines, which I will explain to him shortly. If there's no open period for discussion, then the judgment of notability is by fiat rather than an open process. It's elitist, and it drives away contributors in favor of anti-social nerds. And you meant "too fast." I edited it for you. Mbroderick271 (talk) 03:12, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
- The article was nominated for speedy deletion, which means that it can be deleted without discussion, now you may be right in the fact that's it notable but that doesn't give you the right to vandalize his userpage and remove sections onmy talk page.--Iamawesome800 Talk to Me 03:15, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Suggestion
I have seen the back-and-forth on this page. I don't have time right now to look at this situation in detail, but I would like to make a couple of quick observations. First, Iamawesome800 is right that in general, there is no rule against a user's removing notes or warnings from his or her own talkpage. Second, from seeing the last couple of edit summaries, I sense a blow-up about to happen here. Can I strongly suggest everyone dropping this for tonight. If anyone wants more input, I can provide it tomorrow. Thanks! Newyorkbrad (talk) 03:48, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Seton hall.gif)
Thanks for uploading File:Seton hall.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:12, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Casey Bramlet
What's with the edits on the Casey Bramlet page? Casey did not play for Hamburg in 2006. He played for them in 2005 and 2007. So, it looks inaccurate to put Hamburg Sea Devils (2005–2007), rather than Hamburg Sea Devils (2005, 2007). Also, he was a full squad member in 2004 for Cincinnati. So, I didn't want to put the asterisk outside the whole box as he was just an offseason member in 2005. Putting Cincinnati Bengals (2004, 2005*) appears more accurate than Cincinnati Bengals (2004–2005)*. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wyo44wyo (talk • contribs) 03:32, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- You're wrong NFL articles are done the way I did them, they might be slightly inaccurate but still. Oh and you break my fifth bullet on my editnotice cause you're complaining but since I semi-care I responded.--Iamawesome800 Talk to Me 03:36, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- Alrighty. No worries if you want to do it your way. Just wanted to let you know exactly when and where he played.
- NFLE stints aren't listed if they were affiliated with an NFL team at the time, which Bramlet was. So they should not be present.
- As for the Bengals, when a guy was on the active roster we do not put an asterisk there at all. We simply list him as being with them in 2004. That's why the note below says ONLY - it goes on tenures when he was a PS or offseason member ONLY, with no active roster time.►Chris NelsonHolla! 04:23, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
Apology
I've posted a general apology in my withdrawal statement at the Oversight election page, but I felt that as a contributor you deserve an individual apology too.
It was not my intention to let the election begin without a statement, but an IT gremlin "ate" my first attempt at posting there some hours before the election was to begin and then unforseeable RL issues prevented me from getting back to it until too late. Thank you for your consideration and sincere regrets for wasting your time. --Dweller (talk) 10:21, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
Huggle
After filling out the Huggle.cs page, you do need to download it.
for an older version, I just got this one, it is a LOT faster than the latest one.
Both of them are very quick to download, even on a slow computer. Remember that it requires rollback to work, I assume you have it already. Good luck ;) Inferno, Lord of Penguins 22:41, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi Giants, Congrats on the new name, I remember a while back making a mental note that your maturity level was way more than your old name implied to boring old people like me. Moves
I will absolutely not permit the moves to the dab (Canadian football), it is against the dab conventions to describe the person rather than the sport between the brackets and is harmfully over-precise about the code of football when such precision is unnecessary when there is no other football player with the same name and misleading when the player has played multiple codes or is not of the same nationality as the code of football. WP:NCSP summarizes the situation well. There is no good reason to use (Canadian football) in any of the cases you used. DoubleBlue (talk) 15:45, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
- But they play Canadian football and it makes it easier to disamb, between a Canadian/American football player than people possibly getting confused with the term footballer, which is sort of close to football player so some might think they play soccer.--Giants27 TC 15:47, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
- The dab is not a précis of the article; the lead describes what the article is about. The dab is a method to have two articles with the same name. Using the (Canadian football) dab is wrong for all the reasons I mentioned above. Where will a reader come across this article and believe it is a soccer player? There are no soccer players with these names in Wikipedia. The disambiguation page lists them as professional Canadian football players. The articles should and do describe what they are notable for. The dab (football player) is correct; the dab (Canadian football) is too precise and incorrect for players who play multiple codes and those who are not of the same nationality. If a gridiron player shares the name with a soccer player, then we can deal with it via (footballer) for the soccer player and using the WP:NCSP#Extreme disambiguation rules. DoubleBlue (talk) 15:59, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
- P.S. These Tavix moves were condemned in a WP:ANI discussion and reversion was recommended but due to the volume most have not yet been carried out. I revert the moves when I see them. DoubleBlue (talk) 16:02, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Tate/Zeigler Moves And Other Related Material
I am curious where you found that Drew Tate and Toby Zeigler were released. If you are basing it off the Riders roster on Riderville.com, I wouldn't use that as the basis for anything. The Riders are notorious for not updating it or removing players who have been moved to other lists. I am not doubting your info, just curious as it has not been reported on any Riders related site I can find.
Also, since the free agent market has just opened, is it not better to hide the text of the free agents, instead of deleting the player and readding him when he re-signs? Unlike the NFL, CFL free agency is a longer process where players generally do not sign immediately. Its not uncommon for a player to re-sign with his team a day or two before training camp, even if he had no intention of going elsewhere.Shootmaster 44 (talk) 02:19, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
- The releasing of Tate and Zeigler I got from here, and yeah never thought of that idea, left you a message on your talk page so I'll go readd them.--Giants27 TC 02:21, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Vancouver College is not a university. College does not mean university in Canada; it often means a community college#Canada where you can earn a diploma, a particular campus of a university, or even a high school, as in the case of Vancouver College. DoubleBlue (talk) 17:14, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Thank You!
Bud Selig
Not really sure how this works, but I'll give it a try. I think my blurb on Mr. Selig was sufficiently neutral, at least not to warrant speedy deletion. I suppose this falls under (5) although I genuinely care about both Wikipedia and baseball, and wouldn't willingly sacrifice either one to a moment of Wikipedia editing glory.Jrcathro (talk) 03:59, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
- The article most certaintly won't get speedy deleted so don't worry, and the only reason I said it didn't keep neutral point of view was because in the source you provided the headline itself said Bud Selig sucks, so you can see why I thought that.--Giants27 TC 04:03, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
Huh?
What was the correction here? Featured articles like Tyrone Wheatley, Jacques Plante, and Wayne Gretzky all begin with the "is a professional ... player" construction and WP:LEAD#First sentence suggests for the very first sentence to say who it is and why he's notable; i.e. professional (WP:ATHLETE) football player. Your thoughts? (I'll watch your page.) DoubleBlue (talk) 04:41, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
- My opinion is that usually I don't see that everyday, so I changed it to what I usually see.--Giants27 TC 14:24, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
- I understand. It's a fairly new observation to me as well. I still learn a little more all the time about the manual of style and what makes a good article. I think the Givenname Surname (born Month day, year) is a professional Canadian football player who ... is a nice standard construction though. I also recently noted that WP:MOSNUM suggests that the place of birth not be placed with the date of birth in the first sentence but, rather, placed within context in the body of the article. Of course, with the briefest stubs that's not really possible but once there is some content, I think it should be done. DoubleBlue (talk) 15:08, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
- I prefer having the birthdate and birthplace in the first sentence cause it sort of gets it out of the way and you don't have to mention it again.--Giants27 TC 15:17, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
- I don't recall which article now but I first learned of that style recommendation in a featured article candidate review where it was brought up as an issue that needed correction. We should always be working toward the best style. I agree in a short stub that it could be placed in the first sentence but if there is enough content to have an "early years" section, then it should be moved there. DoubleBlue (talk) 16:22, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
- Yes I agree completely with that because if there's enough info then it should be in there.--Giants27 TC 16:30, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

Sorry man, but that just doesn't make sense. If you want them in the CFL free agent category, add the category to the list at the bottom. Giles is also an NFL free agent, and was more recently employed by an NFL team. So why do we give the CFL cat but have the NFL one removed? Infoboxes aren't to add categories. If they do, fine, but you don't change them just to put a guy in a cat. Just add the cat.►Chris NelsonHolla! 00:28, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
- True, damn, why didn't I ever think of that.--Giants27 TC 00:32, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
- In fact, I don't even believe free agent categories should exist. Think about all the other categories on Mike Byrne's page for example. His birth year. His birth place. His football positions. His college. His pro teams. None of those will ever change. They will ALWAYS be on his page because they will either always apply or they will always have been true. But that is not the case for free agent categories. They are temporary, and I just don't see the point. In my mind, categories are things that will always be true and will remain on the page forever.►Chris NelsonHolla! 01:34, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
- Hmmmm....interesting take on it, I sort of like the FA categories because they help with sorting purposes and that's all I got since I'm tired and don't feel like writing anymore, might reanswer in morning.--Giants27 TC 02:03, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
- Obviously, I am inclined to agree that categories should be entered directly rather than through a template but in this case, as a temporary category, it is a quite convenient way to add and remove via the parameter switch and there are, of course, other templates like {{current}} that automatically add temporary categories. I also think that such a category of free agents is useful. DoubleBlue (talk) 02:49, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Roster navbox
Hey. Do you really intend to keep both roster templates up to date? It seems like a waste of resources to me. Why not just link to the roster?
Did you intend to remove the WP:Persondata here? DoubleBlue (talk) 03:23, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
- First question, yes I have no life so I have free time. And no that was a mistake.--Giants27 T|C 03:28, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
- As much as I appreciate your work improving Wikipedia, I think you ought to pursue a life as well. :-) DoubleBlue (talk) 03:31, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
- Trust me I've tried, but it just hasn't worked out yet, but I'll keep trying. :-)--Giants27 T|C 03:33, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
- By the way, if you find yourself in Toronto this summer, e-mail me and I can get you a couple of Argo tix. DoubleBlue (talk) 03:42, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
- Trust me I've tried, but it just hasn't worked out yet, but I'll keep trying. :-)--Giants27 T|C 03:33, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, I'm trying to see if I can get up there, but based on this, the odds don't look to good. But trust me I'm trying.--Giants27 T|C 20:01, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
Oversight thanks
Thank you for your recent support in the Oversight election, in which I was successful. I have begun to get my feet wet there and will do everything possible to reflect the community's trust in me. Daniel Case (talk) 23:50, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
Cardinals players
Please fix your edit to the Cardinals players that have not been re-signed, only tendered.►Chris NelsonHolla! 22:12, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
- See ESPN, the others are wrong but Pope and Watson are right.--Giants27 T|C 22:13, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
- Or ESPN just screwed up. Most of the media doesn't know how the RFA/ERFA stuff works.►Chris NelsonHolla! 22:19, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
RFA
Hi Giants, re Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Cryptic C62 as Pedro has struck his oppose you might want to revisit your "Oppose per Pedro". I'm not suggesting you have to switch as Pedro has done, but I would suggest going back having a think and revising either your reason or your position. WereSpielChequers 23:25, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
- Oh yeah thanks for the heads up, hadn't noticed that.--Giants27 T|C 23:28, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
Rosenfels
Don't make the move at midnight, that has nothing to do with anything. That's just the first time it can happen, but it still has to be reported as having happened to pass WP:VERIFY.►Chris NelsonHolla! 03:21, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
- Clearly his dinner went well and he didn't choke on a roll. ;-)--Giants27 T/C 03:24, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
- That may be, but it still has to be verifiable before it's done here, and it certainly shouldn't be made when it's technically impossible.►Chris NelsonHolla! 03:25, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah I agree I just wanted to point out that it will happen in about 1 and a half hours.--Giants27 T/C 03:29, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
- Not really...►Chris NelsonHolla! 03:40, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
- .........--Giants27 T/C 03:49, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
Like I said before, the deal doesn't happen at midnight. The deal happens when it happens, which is any time after midnight. Could be right away, could be any time Friday, could be after that. We add it here when it's reported as happened, not at midnight. You say it will happen in about an hour and a half, but that's just not true.►Chris NelsonHolla! 03:52, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
- Of course it's not true now it's an hour now ;). But yeah I get what you mean it can happen at anytime but it has to be reported so like when the Vikings announce it it's official.--Giants27 T/C 03:54, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
- Well it doesn't have to be the team, it just has to be reported by a reliable source as fact.►Chris NelsonHolla! 04:01, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
Seriously
This is getting annoying. You're in such a hurry to be the one to make the edits that you're adding stuff before it's official. You've done it with Jason Brown like five times today, you did it with the Rosenfels thing, you did it with Michael Boley. Just calm down. It's Wikipedia. There's plenty of time to make the edits when the time comes.►Chris NelsonHolla! 03:54, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
- With Rosenfels I was an idiot, with Boley I was an idiot and with Brown I saw agreed to a deal but I just checked again and it said agreed in principle so clearly I made a mistake.--Giants27 T/C 03:57, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
- But you're not an idiot. Just don't be in such a hurry to make the edits. Read what the story is, and if it passes WP:VERIFY by saying it's happened, add it. If it doesn't, don't.►Chris NelsonHolla! 03:58, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
- Wow, wow I'm not an idiot? Then how did I get a 40 on a test before?--Giants27 T/C 04:00, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
- But you're not an idiot. Just don't be in such a hurry to make the edits. Read what the story is, and if it passes WP:VERIFY by saying it's happened, add it. If it doesn't, don't.►Chris NelsonHolla! 03:58, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
