Managing a conflict of interest
editHello, GladstonesLibrary. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Gladstone's Library, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam#External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Theroadislong (talk) 12:24, 13 March 2023 (UTC)
- Hello ScottishFinnishRadish.
- I have just received notification of my ban. I have added an edit request on the Gladlib talk page, as advised. Can I confirm this is visible and will remain in situ?
- I do represent the Library and am trying to clear up inaccuracies and add citations. I used the COI tag.
- Thanks GladstonesLibrary (talk) 12:46, 13 March 2023 (UTC)
- The request will remain in place. In the block notice below there are instructions to request a account rename as well. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 13:06, 13 March 2023 (UTC)
- Re: name - I think that should already be done? I'm new to the Wiki system.
- Bit concerned about some of the post-hoc edits on the page by another editor. It looks as though info that was independently added (some years ago) has been stripped off due to my requests today. The requests were to update material with citations and improve accuracy.
- I'm happy to provide independent citations and am wholly committed to adhering to the Wiki standards. The tone of the response to the propose edits and reinstatements is concerning. GladstonesLibrary (talk) 13:09, 13 March 2023 (UTC)

editYou should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable, regardless of the username that you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid or compensated in any way, you must disclose who is paying you to edit here.
Please take a moment to either create a new account, or request a username change of your current account here. The new username that you choose must represent you as an individual person, and it must comply with Wikipedia's username policy.- To create a new account with a different username, simply log out of this account and then click here to make a new one.
- If you prefer to change the username on this account, you may do so by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page here:
{{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}
.
Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken or in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.
Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it also identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".
Appeals: If your username does not represent a group, organization, website, or other entity described above, and if you believe that this block was incorrect or made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page here: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}
.

Are you a library employee? 331dot (talk) 13:22, 13 March 2023 (UTC)
- Yes. Another mod has posted me toward COI policies and declarations. GladstonesLibrary (talk) 13:23, 13 March 2023 (UTC)
