Thank you for reverting vandalism to Wikipedia, which you did in Freddy Adu. After you revert, I would recommend also warning the users whose edits you revert on their talk pages with an appropriate template or custom message. This will serve to direct new users towards the sandbox, educate them about Wikipedia, and a stern warning to a vandal may prevent him or her from vandalizing again. Thank you. --AW 21:53, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I noticed that you have not yet begun issuing user warnings. They are very easy to use, and don't take much time. They also help stop vandals from continuing their destructive behavior. If you are unsure how to use them, I have a very brief tutorial on my user page, and would be glad to help you get started. wrp103 (Bill Pringle) (Talk) 17:37, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Me too, I am still figuring it out, thanks. I typically only revert users who are not logged in. Is it tpyical to give warnings to IP's (even if they are dynamic)? Also, is it worth giving warnings to IP's that have long lists of warnings already? Thanks. --User:GlobalFlop
It is very helpful to give warnings when there are long lists already. That shows a history of vandalism, which makes the "mistake" argument weak. Also, each time the user is to get a stronger warning.
For example, the first time somebody vandalizes, they get a level 1 warning. If they do it again, they get level 2. Level 4 is their final warning; if they continue to vandalize they will be blocked for some period of time. Once their block is listed, since they have already been blocked, they can be blocked after one incident, depending on lots of stuff.
It is important to make sure that it really was vandalism, and not just an honest attempt at an edit gone wrong. That is where the actual edit, combined with the past list of warnings, helps people to determine the seriousness of the problem.
Yes, it is a bit frustrating with dynamic IPs, but we do the best we can. ;^) I have your talk page on my watchlist, so if you have any more questions you can simply add it below. wrp103 (Bill Pringle) (Talk) 20:56, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
