FAU/Princeton Review
editI would agree with you more if FAU was ranked in a better publication. All the other books, US News, the actual Princeton rankings, and the Carnegie ranking you mentioned are pretty prestigious. The list you are linking to doesn't seem that prestigious or notable. In fact, if you look at the other schools on the list, it seems that every school in Florida makes it, even some that I have never even heard of and only have 591 people attending. I am going to try and cleanup the article some, it seems to just be an ever expanding mess and I would appreciate your help. To see what a featured university article looks like see Duke University. Also, don't forget to sign your comments, simply type four tildes (~), like this: ~~~~
Let me know if you have any questions. KnightLago 22:11, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
Library Picture
editAlso, I looked at the new library picture? Did you happen to take one with less people in it. While the old one showed the library as kind of dirty looking it did not show people. KnightLago 22:20, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
- Another picture question, I saw the apartments picture and it really doesn't look good. Did you happen to take any more pictures of them? If not, how about taking a picture of them from a distance in order to show them all and make them better looking. KnightLago 22:34, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
FAU
editI hadn't seen the FSU page. That is beyond my skill level as well. I am also not sure how that will play if we try and go the WP:FA route. I haven't seen any universities that are featured with color boxes like that. Also, for the pictures, go for it. I have been playing with the pictures because there are some I don't like and the others we have don't cover everything. I think we need a picture that sums up the entire Boca campus. Also, maybe just more pictures of the colleges and their buildings. Also, for the greek group picture you put up, what type of permission did you get for that? Because if we try to go WP:FA the license you put on there now won't stand. Someone will ask how you got permission, and then did you forward a copy to the Wikipedia Office. See WP:ERP. Keep in touch. I have the week off, and I plan to keep playing with the page. KnightLago 14:05, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
- Also, if you can get inside the apartments, how about taking a picture from the upper level walkway down the length of the apartments. That way we would not show the outside and would just see the apartments on each side. Just a thought. KnightLago 14:07, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
Info Box
editI hate to say it because it looks like you spent time on it, but I think the new info box looks really really bad. I liked the page much better when the info box was the other way. The problem is that the FAU colors are hard to make look good when making templates or info boxes because of the colors involved. The red in the logos and how they were designed has red used almost no where. To use is over the entire info box overpowers everything. The main colors in the visual standards manual here that are used 99% of the times are blue on a white background. See page 9. It looks like the logo we have is picture which has a white background which makes what you are trying to do even tougher because you must keep the white. I am thinking about reverting, but I want to see what you have to say before I do that. Let me know what you think.
Also, the Greek pictures won't be able to saty if we go to WP:FA, read this page and follow its instructions to get permission. KnightLago 13:30, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- Well, I made a few changes. I changed all the red to white, and left the red outline, but picked a darker red to try and match the logo. I also unlinked a few things like type, and linked the other to the appropriate places, like president to university president. Tell me what you think. KnightLago 15:11, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
- I had a feeling after I made it that you might consider the red/blue hard to read. I liked it -- and I chose a darker red than my original red to further make it easier to read -- but I had a feeling it might be short-lived. I'd still like to mess with it a little bit and incorporate some blue around the red border, just to incorporate both those colors (the silver, our third color, is not necessary). I know the visual standards manual may want blue on a white background, but I also know that there are people in administration who don't like athletics, associate red and blue with athletics, and therefore want to keep red and blue out of documents associated with the university -- it's a really political, stupid, stupid thing and FAU won't be able to move forward until they embrace the whole "owl head, owl country, bleed red and blue" mentality that other schools with rabid fans (and alumni) have already.
- But that's an aside.
- Good news is that I took some more pictures (FAU sign, multiple apartment angles so we can choose, College of Business, etc) and I'll do my best to put them up tonight. We'll discuss those soon. Go Owls 19:55, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
FAU Greek Life Reply
editFor the picture, I think it looks great and I am glad you got it, you just have to get it put under a free use license by whoever took it or owns the picture. See WP:ERP. Read the page, and then take one of the sample letters, put it into your own style keeping the main points and then email it to the person responsible for the picture. They must agree to license the image under a free license. The page I am referring you to can explain it a lot better than I can. If they say yes, you must forward that email to the address Wikipedia provides so they can have a copy of it. If that happens let me know and we can put the image back and put the correct permission on there. I saved the path to the picture on the talk page of the FAU article so i knew where it so we can put it back when the times come.
For your other question, I removed the Greek list of organizations because they are a list. Lists are not part of high quality articles. It is a common part of the average college pages where there are an enormous amount of junk, but not of the high quality pages. See the following university featured articles. Featured articles are considered the best quality in Wikipedia. None of them have the lists of Greeks like the ones I removed. They simply state percentages and number, and the cite the list. When I want to compare articles to the FAU articles these are the ones I look at, for example Duke University (notice the star in the top right, this means it is featured and of high quality). I am trying to make the FAU article one of these high quality articles. I think we have a few more things to take care of and then we can start the process to get that recognition for the article. I hope this answers your questions.
Also, do you know where I could find more information on Greek life at FAU? I have looked and really haven't found much, what I have found is in the article. KnightLago 03:10, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:FAU Banner.PNG
editThanks for uploading Image:FAU Banner.PNG. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
