I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}}
on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!
Btw, why do you insist on putting in those two external links in the Mel Gibson article? One link is obviously just a spoof of the real draftmelgibson.com and the blog is most likely a fake too. I doubt it's written by Gibson, especially since there is a link on the spoof site to it. Garion96 (talk) 08:07, 6 January 2006 (UTC)
Hi. I put those two links there in the spirit of inclusiveness and open access to information. The website is in fact a parody site, but if you take a close look at it, it contains some factual information (Mel on the issues contains true quotes) which show the extreme views of Mel Gibson (a quite different side than the real DraftMelGibson site). As such it operates as a political critique. The blog, it actually seems to be a critique too, with most of what Mel "says" based on his documented extremist views. Mel is being seriously discussed as a political figure in California, and I don't think that people's access to information about him should be limited to sites which depict him in a positive light, or that they should be shielded from sites which depict him in a less than positive light. And as for the latter, there are many ways to do so.
Mell Gibson...?
editre: Mel Gibson — Hi there, welcome to Wikipedia! You posted on my talk page that I was deleting links that you put on an article (I'm assuming you mean the Mel Gibson article) except that wasn't me who did that (it goes against my inclusionistic policies)! Just so you know, at the top of every editible page you can see the history of edits by clicking "history" (example) and you can compare my edit and your following edit.. here - where mine is on the left, and your additions are on the right. The removal happened by a different user. I hope you see what I mean, but if you're having problems using Wikipedia in the future, feel free to post on my talk page again. I don't mind helping anyone out! I guess Wikipedia:Page history explains it better than I could. Oh! And I really don't mean to be a nag at this point, but you didn't sign your edit on my talk page. It's easy to do, just type ~~~~ and it will name and timestamp any edit. Thanks, and hope to see you around! — cuaHL 10:06, 6 January 2006 (UTC)
Mel Gibson
editExcuse me? Mel Gibson threatened to sue the creators of the blog. That alone makes it newsworthy. I am well within the guidelines of Wikipedia, and while perhaps you may not agree with the slant of the site, it doesn't mean that Wikipedia users shouldn't have access to it. I hope you are not suggesting that websites critical of Gibson should be less available than his fan sites? And what is the deal with your threat to block my editing abilities? The point here is not advertising a blog, it is making available a satirical critique of Mel Gibson. If you hold a different view about this, I invite you to write about it, rather than sanctimoniously threaten to revoke my editing privileges.
Please stop. If you continue to use Wikipedia for advertising, you will be blocked from editing. . And yes that does include linking your blog in Mel Gibson. I counted over a dozen times that has been reverted, it's time you got the hint. - Just zis Guy, you know? [T]/[C] AfD? 17:09, 19 January 2006 (UTC)
