Tax FAC

edit

The Tax article just failed GA last month and the improvements suggested have yet to be made (see Talk:Tax#GA_Review). I don't think it is quite ready for FA. A fellow WikProject Taxation member - Morphh (talk) 0:49, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

I withdrew it from FAC. --Goingempty 01:58, 18 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Gross ups and Caps

edit

Sorry, but I really am beyond my competence now. I use the information on T3s, T4As, and T5s as issued by the various financial institutions. I insert whatever amounts are called for into Quick Tax and it spits out the liability. You need either someone who does taxes still by hand or someone who handles trusts and investment tax accounting for a living. You can also phone Rev Can, though my experience is that you don't often get the same answer twice. The Trusts group is helpful and knowledgeable, but it isn't listed anywhere. They have to call you first, and then you have call-back number. Bielle 22:04, 4 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Trust funds, alternative trading schemes

edit

Sorry, Goingempty, that I can't be any more help. I know nothing about family trusts or Canadian taxes. I know only the basics about financial markets and cannot offer expert knowledge on alternatives (if any) to exchange trading for NYSE-listed companies. Good luck. Sorry, but my knowledge and understanding of financial issues is severely challenged.  --LambiamTalk 17:17, 7 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Moving questions

edit

I would appreciate it if you wouldn't keep moving your questions to the bottom of the page. I find it disorienting, and it means that each time I have to skip pages and pages to see the developments at more recent questions.  --LambiamTalk 17:35, 7 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Copyvios on the refdesk

edit

Please don't copy news stories verbatim. Just link to them instead. -- Consumed Crustacean (talk) 01:17, 8 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Okay next time I will use Block Quotes feature of the wiki as that seems to be the norm on many wiki articles. --Goingempty 00:49, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Umm, even with blockquotes you shouldn't be quoting entire news stories. -- Consumed Crustacean (talk) 19:40, 10 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re: Help?

edit

Sorry, those subjects are completely out of my area of knowledge, or interest. I hope you find the answers you're looking for. JackofOz 02:09, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

What's the problem?

edit

Specifically: how about explaining your deletion of my reply to a query (1.13 "Need help with this") on the Humanities RD for May 4? Your edit summary (9 May 01:02) was left blank - not a good practice under any circumstances, and certainly not in light of your action. I restored my response from the page history, though I notice you deleted others' replies in that same unexplained edit. What's going on here? -- Deborahjay 03:09, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

That does NOT explain or justify deleting other content!! While it remains unclear what you're trying to do, I'll offer the following suggestions:
  • Questions about how the Reference Desks work (such as archiving unanswered queries) can be posted to the RD general discussion page.
  • If you don't know how to do something (such as reversing a mistaken deletion of content), you can ask at the New Contributors' Help page, or individual editors on their Talk pages — or yours, if they've already opened a dialogue (as above/below/here).
Remember that Wikipedia activity is voluntary and involves the practice of good faith. -- Deborahjay 02:37, 11 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Please don't spam editors with your questions

edit

Feel free to ask (a very few) editors whom you have good reason to believe might be able to help with your question, or do what most everyone else does—wait for a response from the people who are reading at the Ref Desk.

Please don't post the same request to multiple editors' talk pages. TenOfAllTrades(talk) 03:32, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Request on my talk page

edit

Hi. Having read through the requests you asked if I might be able to help with...Sorry it's not something I would know about. I suspect you have read the pages on the stock market and all those around but if not they may offer some help. A browse through the www.ft.com website might help - they are a very highly respected business newspaper/publication. ny156uk 17:49, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Frustration

edit

I can understand why not receiving a reply to your questions for more than a week would be frustrating, but yours is a highly specialized topic in a, relatively speaking, small country (Tax in Canada), and then a very highly specialized segment (Trusts). (I can say that; I am a Canadian.) Not many people know enough to help you. You saw how quickly I got over my head, and I have been working with these matters for 5 years on a personal basis. I hope you find someone soon with the expertise you need. Bielle 18:48, 10 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Knowledgeable editors at the Taxation WikiProject

edit

The Wikipedia Taxation Project page has a list of members, with links to their User pages. The project also has its own discussion page. Those are all avenues of approach for your particular queries, where you're likely to find editors with expertise in this field. Otherwise, consider that up-to-date, country-specific information may more likely be found by consulting conventional sources (governmental and professional websites and offices) rather than a web encyclopedia such as this.-- Good luck, Deborahjay 02:46, 11 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
