Speedy deletion nomination of User:GradStudent407

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User:GradStudent407, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Goodvac (talk) 00:21, 8 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia is not for advertising or promotion of any kind. See also our guideline on WP:Conflict of interest. JohnCD (talk) 10:51, 8 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for uploading File:MissionHillWay.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. ww2censor (talk) 03:49, 9 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Your class project

edit

If your teacher suggested you use Wikipedia for a class project, please ask him/her to read:

Class projects can be useful but need preparation: Wikipedia is not a web-host for purposes not connected with building an encyclopedia, and all submissions have to obey the rules. In particular, advertising and promotion are not allowed anywhere in Wikipedia, even in user space.

What you wrote was blatantly promotional - "a proud member of the Coalition of Essential Schools", "a well-rounded productive members of society, who contributes to their community, and who are confident and self satisfied" "strong, caring, and respectful people making a difference in the world" "a huge advocate for educational reform"... This is PR-speak, puffery, an advertising brochure not an encyclopedia article. Wikipedia requires a neutral point of view, and facts which are verifiable from reliable sources, not opinions. Unless you plan to spend your life in the advertising/PR industry, I advise you to learn to write straight descriptive English. This sort of thing is all very well for its purpose, advertising and persuasion, but we sometimes get people trying to contribute here who are so soaked in PR-speak that they are unable to write anything else, and genuinely cannot see a problem. When writing for Wikipedia, you need to imagine a hostile critic looking over your shoulder saying "Can you prove it? Who says so? Yes, but that's the subject's own website - does anyone independent say it?"

I see you have put the material in again. As your deadline is only tomorrow, I will turn a blind eye until tomorrow night, but I cannot give you a free pass - any user who sees it may tag it as an advertisement at any time, and then it will be speedily deleted. You might do well to move it to Myspace or Facebook, where you can write what you like, just in case.

There is good advice for contributors in the links from the Welcome paragraph at the top of this page, especially WP:My first article.
