Jacki Randall

edit

Hello Graeme;

I am wondering what I need to do to have the bio/profile for artist Jacki Randall published. Could you please help me or tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks so very much. Crazybird 21:52, 29 March 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Crazyybird (talkcontribs)

Hi Crazyy, I have Assisted by moving to article space from your user talk page. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 20:42, 30 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi Graeme, you declined by article about Gabriel Weston claiming notability had not been established. I'm not sure how there can be a question of notability of an author who is internationally published and has the same literary editor as Salman Rushdie and Ian McKewan, but I have added a link to Amazon to prove that this is a major book release, and made a couple of further amendments, and trust you will accept the article this time.

Kuntaw

edit

USER: wjespens

Hi Graeme, you declined my article on Kuntaw as it is on my website at kuntaw.com. I am the original writer of this article and this is why I added it as is. Should I do anything else to get this completed?

Thanks,

Jesse

Hi Jesse, in order for me to believe the copyright is now GFDL, you will have to ammend the original website to say content is released under GFDL see WP:GFDL for the licence you would grant. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 05:59, 21 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
The copyright still says "© 1999 International Kuntaw Federation" which stops wikipedia from hosting it. Also to have an article you need independent sources, links outside of the organisation that have writings from people nothing to do with it. This is to show notability. The sources have to be reliable, and that cuts out geocities. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:20, 21 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

QPACE

edit

Hello Graeme, many thanks for your review. You declined my article about QPACE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Submissions/QPACE), because the content was taken from the article (http://inside.hlrs.de/htm/Edition_02_08/article_14.html). We are the authors of this articles. What do we need to do to have the article approved.

Despite this, I changed the introduction text and wrote it from scratch. Maybe this is the better approach. ;-) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Schihei (talkcontribs) 09:06, 17 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Many thanks in advance! Heiko —Preceding unsigned comment added by Schihei (talkcontribs) 08:23, 17 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

You are right it is definitely better to rewrite it, this will make it more in the style of an encyclopedia, and less a marketing approach. If you did want to use it unchanged, you would have to change the original web site to attach a suitable copyright to the material like WP:GFDL. I will look at your amendments if someone else has not done so already. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 20:22, 17 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Sandy Gandhi

edit

Hi Graeme Thanks for fixing the title and putting in the redirect for Sandy Ghandi --> Sandy Gandhi.
I notice in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Australian_comedians she is listed under "S"; she should probably be under "G".
I would like to upload a photo of her as well; I contacted her and she has sent me one to use. Could you kindly help me with this as I appear to not be able to do it with my level of access.
By the way I have never written a Wikipedia article before; I just saw her on TV, thought she was really funny, looked her up on the Internet and when there wasn't much about her I thought I should remedy the situation. So I appreciate your assistance!
Kind Regards,
Jenny Bridge (hashisan) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hashisan (talkcontribs) 12:51, 15 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello Jenny, I think where it appears in the category is something to do with defaultsort, but I have not yet learned how to do it. Is the picture released to the public domain, or at least free to use by anyone? Copyright is very important to wikipedia as it is free to use. If you own the copyright then you can upload it, but if not prooving permission is more difficult. If you can get it on some other web site such as flickr, along with the GFDL copyright permission, then let us know the URL and we can up load. Look at WP:IFU. Since you are registered there should be an upload file on your screen's left hand side, at the bottom of the list. Click on this. If it is not there you may have to edit 10 more pages or wait a few days. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 20:54, 15 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

This user is still submitting lots of articles to AfC. Do we let him continue or try to make him create by himself? His articles are pretty well written but are often not neutral, written from a fan's point of view, or include peacock words. Martin 12:34, 13 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

I already tried to suggest that she/he put in his own articles. Perhaps "talk" is not yet understood by this user. Can you modify the submission script, so that users with names end up creating the article directly? I have had to fail 2 because of already existing, the submnitted article was better, but the user did not then replace the old article with their work. For copying my articles from the Dutch Wiki. There is a lynching mob, who don't want me to contribute to Wiki at all. My block is over, but I won't contribute to the Wiki until a demand is met. Users should be warned or banned who willingly manipulate sources, say that scholars/professors don't know what they're talking about, misquote and lie and completely remove sources that don't fit in their POV. I guess you can read dutch, so you can follow my actions on the dutch Wiki, and my second request for the Arbcom. Category question

You mentioned that there is a templated a categories that includes a small descriptor next to each category. I was wondering if you could point me towards so more info on this. Conversely could you confirm if I'm not making sense. Chrisfromcanberra (talk) —Preceding undated comment was added on 01:13, 18 February 2009 (UTC).Reply

Under the "my preferences" gadgets, there is a hotcat that you can tick, see WP:Hotcat it will add a option on pages to autocomplete categories, but it wont actually describe them. But it will assist. Secondly you can edit a category to add a description. you goto Category:category and then edit and you can add one in. You will not be able to magically get a description from thin air if there was none there though ! Graeme Bartlett (talk) 01:57, 18 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Category:Declined AfC submissions in November 2008

edit

I notice that this category you created is unpopulated (empty). In other words, no Wikipedia pages belong to it. If it remains unpopulated for four days, it may be deleted, without discussion, in accordance with Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#C1. I'm notifying you in case you wish to (re-)populate it by adding to articles/categories that belong in it.

I blanked the category page. This will not, in itself, cause the category to be deleted. It serves to document (in the page history) that the category was empty at the time of blanking and also to alert other watchers that the category is in jeopardy. You are welcome to revert the blanking if you wish. However, doing so will not prevent deletion if the category remains empty.

If you created the category in error, or it is no longer needed, you can speed up the deletion process by tagging it with db-author.

Contact me if you have questions about this. Best regards, --Stepheng3 (talk) 19:42, 21 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Dear Graeme Bartlett, this same article was published in the german version of Wikipedia and should be available for native english speaking people. The reliable source are the published works (Book's, CD's) and her contribution for the composer Othmar Shoeck. The source of this article can be verified by Ursual Bagdasarjanz her self at www.bagdasarjanz.com. Can you please define what should be modified to be approved by Wikipedia? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Taksoh (talkcontribs) 11:36, 2 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

We need an independent reliable source to prove notability. The details can be filled in from her own web site, but we need others to have written about her to show she is notable. The German wikipedia is not counted as a reliable source. You are registered so you can actually make the article yourself. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 20:08, 2 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Cereo

edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Cereo, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Questionable notability; unverifiable; sole reference is a broken link.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Princess Marcella Borghese

edit

You reverted my edits to this article as "malicious tagging". Can you define this? Wikipedia doesn't have any guidelines on this criteria. The following points were tagged by myself (until you removed them) in the article:

"Her strategies to re-establish Borghese as a leader in the prestige category did prove effective".
According to who?
"The line is exclusive to Bloomingdale's and Lord and Taylor department stores"
This should be verified. How is asking for verification malicious?
"Plans to introduce the line into Nordstrom by 2010 are in the works"
This should be verified. How is asking for verification malicious?
"The Costco launch proved very profitable for Borghese"
This should be verified. How is asking for verification malicious?
"and sales for the department store line have risen dramatically"
This should be verified. How is asking for verification malicious?
"The company's future is no longer in limbo as Georgette Mosbacher has revitalized the brand"
This should be verified. How is questioning this malicious?

In my opinion, editing the article - not asking for verification - could have been construed as malicious to the OP, which is why I tagged this.

No war here, just wondering how you concluded tagging isn't acceptable, and Wikipedia's standards on this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.231.196.195 (talk) 11:49, 10 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi, maybe malicious was a bit of a strong term, but when it is tagged for deletion and has fact tags add, this looks more like an attack on the article. If it was just one kind - eg just fact it looks as if the article is requested to be improved. With a delete tag it looks as if the article should not be here, but both together is somewhat contradictory! I am pretty sure the topic deserves an article, but you you are right to expect that the references could be improved. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 20:31, 10 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi Graeme Agreed, the general tag on the section plus the subsequent fact tags throughout the already tagged article could easily appear hostile (on my part) to the OP. My bad. Going forward, I'll tag only the specific statements in question - or, in the case of spam, the entire article - but not both. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.231.196.195 (talk) 20:52, 10 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

image submission of John Hiatt's portrait for your consideration

Hi, Graeme! I have made the necessary adjustment in my blog (http://artissining.wordpress.com/2008/09/01/john-hiatt/) to reflect the fair use release of my painting of John Hiatt for use in his article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Hiatt). I have updated my painting's caption in my blog indicating that the said image is now in the Public Domain. This is the updated URL for the image I am uploading for your consideration---> http://artissining.files.wordpress.com/2008/09/john-hiatt7.jpg Thank you so much, Graeme, for moderating my request! 68.40.222.190 (talk) 05:17, 18 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

I am not sure what you mean by "released in the Public Domain for fair use", are there uses that you do not consider fair? Or is it really public domain for any use at all? Graeme Bartlett (talk) 05:20, 18 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

re: John Hiatt's portrait rights

edit

Hi, Graeme! Thank you so much for publishing the portrait of John Hiatt that I submitted! You are right, the caption that I initially wrote on the image was ambiguous. I have corrected it now to mean as "fair use" and as such may be used by anyone for reproduction, even without permission from me, as long as it is for non-profit purposes (http://artissining.wordpress.com/2008/09/01/john-hiatt/). After all, I painted it for my own personal pleasure out of inspiration and admiration for John Hiatt's music. I appreciate your help, Graeme, in clarifying any problem that might have arisen from my error regarding copyright issues. If there is any other mistake on my part, please let me know. Thank you so much, Graeme! 68.40.222.190 (talk) 18:01, 18 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

You accepted the request without proper permission. There is no way for us to know that the user who requested the upload is actually the owner of that website. For cases like this we require a PD release statement on the website so that we can be sure. Also, your upload has issues. You tagged it both with PD-self (even though it is not your image) and PD-author (without using the required author parameter ). Commons also requires the permission I talked about. I have marked it as no permission and left a request on Brendinooo's talk page for the permission. Thanks --Yarnalgo talk to me 23:31, 21 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

(This works even if the image is held on commons.)
Do you mean the en:File talk:Signal transduction in sea-urchin sperm chemotaxis.jpg or commons:File talk:Signal transduction in sea-urchin sperm chemotaxis.jpg? I did add a text to the commons talk page, but the template is not there. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 08:50, 26 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

MESSAGE TO GRAEME BARTLETT - FROM ERICDEKOLB

Graeme, I just figured out how to answer you back directly on your user page. Thanks for your message. I would greatly appreciate you placing the proper license in my images for me. Also, I saw the copy of the license that someone put on Village Pump. I had difficulty locating it in the "Commons". Also, please note that the dekolb paintings are not copyrighted at all (I said they were before). I have started to upload the paintings under a Attribution Share3.0 license. Is this correct? I know I am going to have to fix the licensing for my downloads and do them again. If you could help me I would appreciate it.

Also, I notice that underneath the picture "storybook romance" that there is a reference #1 for eric dekolb-wartenberg, and it gives the date March 10, 1916. I looked at the subpage you created and couldn't find this date. Also, it says "New York" underneath it. I would assume that deKolb was born in Vienna. Also, I will ask Mrs. deKolb more about the death of EricdeKolb. I really appreciate all of your help. Thank you so much. I would like to get this all done before the April 15th date. (BStet--EricdeKolb (talk) 01:32, 4 April 2009 (UTC))

It would be good to get some pictures of his jewelery too. It looks as if you will have too many pictures for an article, but still commons can probably take any amount of his works. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 01:22, 6 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi Graeme!!

Just to let you know that I put a HELP!! message on my user page!1 Maybe you'll help me also. I put a copy of the "help" message at the end of this letter. I didn't want you to be overloaded.

Now Graeme, take a look! I have added the following to dekolb's page.

1.I added some info about his death. His wife still has to give me the date he passed.

2.In the first part where you put the picture of "storybook romance", I added under "influenced by" Professor Ferdinand Schmutzer. I was also going to try to ad a link about Schmutzer, but all the links were also linked to advertisements. There is a Wikipedia page about Schmutzer, but it doesn't mention that he was a "master of etchings", just photography. So should we like the Wikipedia Page if it doesn't mention "etchings"?

3. Also, I added a line about deKolb's art shows at the Bodley Gallery. Maybe we should add a footnote with a weblink here. Also, the Wikipedia "Bodley Gallery" site, doesn't mention Eric deKolb. Maybe this webpage should be revised so Eric de Kolb's name is mentioned along with Salvadore Dali's etc. (By the way, I am going to scan 1 or 2 of the old articles about Eric de Kolb and the Bodley Gallery.

4. I also made a section of "Honorable Mention" —Preceding unsigned comment added by EricdeKolb (talkcontribs) 20:19, 6 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

5. Under Awards - He won the Welsh Award

6. I have more images to download. How do I make them smaller?

HERE IS THE MESSAGE ON MY USER PAGE THAT SAY'S HELP!

My main problem is this licensing thing. I think I have to use license CC by 3-0 for artwork that I have photographed of paintings. The Owner of original artwork is the wife of the deceased artist. Do I have to get written permission from her (she doesn't have a computer). Also, I am receiving messages relating to copyright tags??? Eric de Kolb the artist has been dead for 20 years and so his wife is the copyright owner, but she does not have a copyright stamp, so how does this work, and how do you ad on the copyright tag.

I am also trying to edit my images in the article and fix the licensing section and copyright problems and I can't figure out how to do it. I only see how to download a new image. I have looked and looked over the wikipedia information and can't seem to find it. I would appreciate it if you would fix it all for me so that I can carry on and then tell me what to do so I can download more images without bothering you.

Thank you so much!!

Got Your Message

edit

Graeme,

Thank you for your message. I read over those links, but I am still not really understanding. First off, they are asking me for copyright tags. There are no copyright tags. Mrs. deKolb just owns the paintings and sculptures because her husband left the estate to her.

Under the "donations" (CC by 3.0), the only one they mention that might apply to my situation is for photographs.

Thanks (BStet--EricdeKolb (talk) 23:47, 6 April 2009 (UTC))Reply

edit

I noticed that you've removed the links from your signature, and I'm curious why. While some users prefer not to link to their sig, the signature guidelines require a link to either your user page or talk page. To be fair, that specific guideline has not been rigorously enforced and signature links are less essential in many areas (such as the Reference Desk), but if you decide to continue to use a linkless sig I would ask that you refrain from posting on new users' talk pages (since those users are the least likely to be able to locate you to respond). Thank you. – 74  04:29, 7 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

It was due to an error in the description on the preferences page, that says if unchecked the typed in signature will be used. I have sorted this out in the preferences, but I don't know how many sigs lost their linkage! Graeme Bartlett (talk) 05:44, 7 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
3 sigs now fixed! Graeme Bartlett (talk) 05:49, 7 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your quick response. The problem apparently only started around a day ago, so I wouldn't worry too much about the few linkless sigs. Please keep up the good work! – 74  05:56, 7 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

A little bit of help required

edit

Hi Graeme

Thanks for the support. Just wondering, although my page is currently up for deletion, is it possible to remove the jokes at this moment in time as I have been away from Wikipedia for a while, I'm not sure with some of the things that I'm allowed to do. My childish side from the past use to get the best of me and jokes was all I wanted to do, but hey whats happened has happened.

Many Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sifu-keith (talkcontribs) 01:11, 22 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

  • Thanks again, I know what to put, just haven't been back on for months as I've been away on study and working at the moment. Oh and just wondering, whats wrong with my signatures, I post the 4 tildes but it still comes up as unsigned. Very confused. Thanks Sifu Keith 02:04, 22 April 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sifu-keith (talkcontribs)

Question

edit

Hi. I was just wondering if there was a reason why you had never stood for adminship, and whether you had thought about doing so? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 05:11, 22 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

A couple of years ago I was reading about admins, and RfAs. It advised to get involved in many areas of Wikipedia to get broad experience. I thought that was a good idea, so then I discovered AfC, which was also recommended to Admin candidates. There was such a big backlog there that I have put in a lot of effort and stopped checking out other areas. So my planned development to being an admin sort of stopped. Then I also considered, do I want to put up with the pressure that may be placed on an admin? Most of what I want to do I can do without being an admin. However there is another point of view, that a lot of what I do is helping other people, and that matches what admins are supposed to be doing.
I would very likely accept the nomination if someone nominated me. I have seen several of the AfC helpers become admins recently. I think you may have something to do with that! Graeme Bartlett (talk) 07:40, 22 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

It will be a few days before I have time to complete the nomination, but as soon as you see the link turn blue, feel free to start answering the questions :) — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 17:09, 22 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thankyou for your nomination, I had better start studying for the interrogation. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:27, 22 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Your nomination is up now. You're right, becoming an admin probably won't change your editing habits much; it will just mean there are more backlogs that you can help with! — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 14:51, 25 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Great work on the RfA. You might get to 100 by Saturday! I might suggest that it is not worth replying to Ottava Rima. Just my opinion ... — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 06:19, 28 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

I guess your are right, I do not expect him to change his vote. Others seem to be arguing with him enough on my behalf. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 06:33, 28 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Drawing Board Assistance

edit

Hello- thank you for your comments for my drawing board post. I am glad that the writing style is good and neutral. Can you help me clear some things up? I am a little confused as to references needed for a cancer research organization because in my research of similar organizations, most only provide links to their websites. For example, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, Memorial Sloan Kettering, and a few more all mainly show links to their sites.

Some do add links to their pages on charity navigator and better business bureau... would it improve my article if I added those for the Cancer Research Institute?

Also, I was a little unsure about the Forbes article because the scientists mentioned are actively funded by Cancer Research Institute - some are even on the scientific advisory board, speak at the meetings, and help run meetings. Is there away I can include the article if I talk about those scientists in the article? Must it absolutely mention the cancer research institute?

Lastly, the ludwig page does mention the cancer research institute at the bottom of the page where it discusses the cancer vaccine consortium.

Would this publication by the CVC-CRI immune assay group be something good to put? http://www.springerlink.com/content/w807r635863vl668/

What about links to other sites that have chosen CRI for their charity promotions? Would they be relevant or no? http://www.tut.com/gftu/?id=13 http://www.epinions.com/member/?show=news&sub=charity_promo

Thank you again for your help- I hope I am not asking too much. I look forward to your reply. --Kelstar (talk) 13:53, 24 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Drawing board help

edit

Hello Graeme
Thanks for your drawing board review.
Would you please help me with one more bit?
There's an article already on Replicon (genetics). It has been tagged as a stub and Replicon redirects there. So when Replicon (company) is made an article, how should the disambiguation be done?
I read the disambiguation help and have the following questions:

  • Does Replicon need a disambiguation page or just disambiguation links on the company and genetics pages?
  • How should the primary topic for Replicon be decided? Based on notability? I do not want to violate WP:NPOV by trying to make the company one as primary and hence would like help on disambiguation.
Would you please help by moving the usersubpage to an article page and setting the disambiguation as you feel appropriate?
If that is going to take too much of your time, would you please instruct me on how to proceed?

Thanks

In any case, I can tell you: good luck and hope you make it! 86.89.146.118 (talk) 21:47, 1 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

"Bold" and also "disruptive" I guess? :) — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 23:54, 1 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Very disruptive at times, I must admit. But that does not stop me from wishing GB luck! I am still very grateful for you starting the "Friesland Project"... you practically run it by yourself now, I really admire your interest in my people. So good luck to you, you are doing a great job in many fields. 86.89.146.118 (talk) 06:57, 2 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Frisians are my my ancestors too, and some of the Wikipedia people have known relationships to me. This means that we would have common ancestors perhaps from the 16th century. Lucky there are other people working ion the Friesland area, they don't want to sign up to the project for various reasons. There are various missing articles, some on geographic features. Are you able to check on politicians over the last century, who are the politicians from Friesland that need an article? Graeme Bartlett (talk) 10:36, 2 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

As for Frisian politicians: look for names ending with an "stra", "ma" or last name "de Vries" (lit. "The Frisian"). It is good to here we might share a common ancestor. I have looked into that, and many of the Frisian warlords from that era were very profilic lovers. They have numerous decendents nowadays. You could very well be a decendent of Wijerd Jelckama or his uncle; Pier's son died in a fire, but his daughter survived him and lived into her seventies. She had issue. Important Frisian politicians would be, most notable: Pieter Jelles Troelstra.

All pretty familiar names, especially the first two. Mata Hari, the worlds most famous femme fatal, she was of Frisian ancestry! In current politics, all I can think of is Jouke de Vries. He is not very well known. Lost the elections to Wouter Bos for the PVDA. If you need any help, ask me! 86.89.146.118 (talk) 17:16, 2 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Could you help me out here? The article Jouke de Vries could really do with a picture of the man. Here is one: http://leidsewetenschappers.leidenuniv.nl/photos/233.jpg.

And here is another one: http://www.beeldbank.leidenuniv.nl/ImageDisplay.php?uid=FT083329&thumbed=4... you could google for images and upload an image of him. As you can see he is a big guy with big head, black hair and glasses. Easy to recognize. Could you uplaod such an image perhaps? That would be great! 86.89.146.118 (talk) 17:22, 2 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

This sounds like a WP:IFU request. I cannot determine the copyright status of these pictures, so I cannot use them on Wikipedia. By default every picture will be copyrighted, and not free for use. Are there any on Flickr? But my question for you was for those that did not already have an article. There should be articles on the fy and nl wikipedia with no article on the the en wikipedia that we could have. The articles you pointed out already exist, so you can improve them as an IP contributor. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:11, 2 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

To be honest with you: I think that the Frisians are actually better represented her at en:wiki then at the Dutch wikipedia! I asked around there and was suprised very much... did you know Bernard Fokke (on which the legend of "the Flying Dutchman" is based) was a Frisian? Not must people know that... :) 86.89.146.118 (talk) 14:21, 3 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

It has come to my attention that you deleted the article on Bruno Massé. I understand it was deleted last Fall but this here is a 'new' article, different text, new references, and full articles with ISBNs for the titles which, by the way, were re-published in the meantime. The article had been first deleted on the grounds that the author was not notable, yet I believe the author has become notable enough, so you can't just delete it on the assumption others made six months ago. The article is different. Please treat it as such. Tyumop (talk) 15:57, 5 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

The only difference in the referencing is the link to the site selling his books, and the ISSN, nothing actually addresses the concern of the AfD. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 20:56, 5 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi. I was ready to add this hangon tag to the file when you deleted it through an edit conflict with me.

If you agree that PNG is a better format could you please restore this file and delete the GIF version? Thanks. Dr.K. logos 13:33, 7 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

I was considering that possibility, I will restore File:IonianUlogo.PNG so this can be examined more closely. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 13:40, 7 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Both look identical to me what do you think? Graeme Bartlett (talk) 13:43, 7 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yes I agree. They look identical. But I always thought that the PNG file was better for technical reasons, therefore i uploaded it in that format last year. User:Lapost replaced it recently with the identical looking GIF file and sent me a message about the PNG file deletion. I think that this action was not necessary and sends the wrong message, by replacing a pre-existing file with a newer file without good reason. That's why I asked you to undelete it. Now I see that Lapost created an identical PNG file and replaced the older PNG file. Don't ask me about the reason of this action :) Anyway thank you very much for taking care of this minor and confusing affair. Take care. Dr.K. logos 17:24, 7 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

IMDB is not a reliable source so it is quite possible that it is wrong! Do you have any other sources which verify the details? IMDB and KAK

edit

Hi Chris, IMDB is not a reliable source, so if some one questions it we should look more for other sources. 203.158.61.110 is on iinet if that helps narrow down that the person is from Australia! I am doubting that Kerri-Anne Kennerley is 59 so that birthdate could well be wrong in IMDB. The person did not claim to be Kerri-Anne Kennerley did they? eg http://www.unofficial.com.au/celebrities/kerri-anne-kennerley.html states she was 14 in 1981. Your edit has caused this news story: What is Kerri-Anne kennerley's ageless secret?, we have to be careful with biographies of living people Graeme Bartlett (talk) 07:09, 8 May 2009 (UTC) THANKS Chrisfromcanberra (talk) 08:16, 8 May 2009 (UTC) I did not get to see Rove Live so I don't know to what extent they dug into why Wikipedia said it was her 59th birthday, you could have had your name announced on national TV. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:02, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

That predates my involvement. I only started editing the KAK article a few weeks ago. The Rove thing happened last year. Your comment about verifying sources raises an interesting point. I would assume IMDB is generally accurate and if a celeb took issue it could be corrected. Mds2954 the other party edtting the article was apparently a journalist interview KAK and used the WP as a reference. She said the date was wrong but as I said to him, did she clarify the date. 23:15, 8 May 2009 (UTC) Still don't know —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chrisfromcanberra (talkcontribs)

Ness Wadia

edit

This person's notability is clear. He is very notable, and the article had sources to prove it (correct me if I'm wrong). He is the Bombay Dyeing heir, a successful and well-known businessman, the co-owner of Kings XI Punjab and Wadia Group, and a very much discussed media figure. His notability is very well established, and the article did indicate the importance or significance of the subject (don't really know what was going on the article lately). This person has a major coverage on the net as well, if you just google once you'll see that.

According to the criterion itself, "This criterion applies only to articles about web content and to articles about people and organizations themselves." Another point, "The criterion does not apply to any article that makes any credible claim of significance or importance even if the claim is not supported by a reliable source." - so this criterion was definitely unrelated here. Speedy dletion was a very big misstep of the editor who added it.

I turned to the admin who deleted it before you, and he restored it upon my request, but before I even came back, the article had already been deleted by you. I want to know what exacly the problem is, and address the required voids if needed. I therefore request you to restore the article. ShahidTalk2me 08:59, 9 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

I have to agree actually. He is a notable businessman and in Indian cricket not to metion the extenisve media coverage of him and wife Preity Zinta. Why was this deleted? Dr. Blofeld White cat 12:36, 9 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

It is now redirected to Preity Zinta temporarily, but he is notable for his own achievements. Please redtore it. ShahidTalk2me 15:48, 9 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

No judgement on the article itself, but as it's been edited by so many editors since 2005, it probably deserves at least a discussion. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 16:05, 9 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Actually, I have now looked at the article and I believe it did meet criterion A7. The only claims of significance seem to be great-grandson of Mohammad Ali Jinnah and boyfriend of Preity Zinta (in other words, no notability). There were no sources whatsoever on the article, and none in any old version of the page either (as far as I can see - I didn't check all 237 revisions though). However it should still probably get a discussion for the reason I gave above. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 16:14, 9 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Maybe, but the criterion says, "This criterion applies only to articles about web content and to articles about people and organizations themselves." Another point, "The criterion does not apply to any article that makes any credible claim of significance or importance even if the claim is not supported by a reliable source."
He is a well-known businessman, the Bombay Dyeing heir, a part of the Wadia Group, a co-owner of Kings XI Punjab, a very famous media figure (Maybe mostly thanks to Zinta, but he still gives his own interviews). Many factors are there. Don't know what was and what wasn't present on the article. I'll source it properly though. ShahidTalk2me 16:26, 9 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
OK I will attempt to restore prior to the redirect. Then it can have claims made that will make it worth keeping. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:23, 9 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
