Welcome!

Hello, Grayspottery, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I notice that one of the first articles you edited was Gray's Pottery, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or any other editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One firm rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{help me}} before the question. Again, welcome!   Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that the username you have chosen, "Grayspottery", seems to imply that you are editing on behalf of something other than yourself. Please note that you may not edit on behalf of a company, group, institution, product, or website, and Wikipedia does not allow usernames that are promotional or have the appearance of shared use. If you are willing to use a personal account, please take a moment to create a new account or request a username change that represents only yourself as an individual. You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and remember that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. C679 11:35, 19 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames that give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy.  You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose.

If your username doesn't represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice. If you prefer to be unblocked for the purpose of changing your username to a username which complies with our username policy, so that your contributions with this username are recorded as contributions of your new username and rather than creating a new account, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice instead. Thank you. {{unblock-un}}

As you have conflict of interest, you should only be editing the talkpage of the article in order to obtain WP:CONSENSUS for your edits - not editing the article directly (✉→BWilkins←✎) 16:20, 20 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
That's only a recommendation - the idea of requiring it has been consistently rejected by the community. – Philosopher Let us reason together. 18:26, 20 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

The following is my proposed text for the second paragraph: The company was founded by, and named after, Albert Edward Gray (1871-1959).[2] Gray's business began in Stoke-upon-Trent (one of the six towns of the City of Stoke-on-Trent) in 1907 and became a production operation in Mayer Street, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent by 1912. It returned to Stoke-upon-Trent in 1933 and ceased by 1962. [4] The company, which was noted particularly for the quality of its design in the 1920s and 1930s,[5] took part in every British Industries Fair that was held between 1915 and 1951.[6] Please can you arrange to post this amendment.Grayspottery (talk) 08:29, 21 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi, blocking admin here. Everyone please note that this is fact a soft block. The point was to make it clear that the username is completely unacceptable, and also that promotional editing of any kind is not permitted, but the option was deliberately left open to just create an account with a non-infringing name. You are still free to do that at anytime if it is not super important to you to retain attribution for the few edits this account has made. If you would like to do that please remove the unblock request and then just create a new account, and please do be mindful of the issues discussed here. Thanks. Allright then, I have turned off the request and we can consider the username aspect of this closed. Beeblebrox (talk) 19:47, 21 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
