Orkney pic
editI had a look at this. First of all, a general comment. In an ideal world, all Wikipedians would be collaborative and helpful - as well as wise and knowledgeable. However, we are also encouraged to be Bold - and you were. Generally speaking there is no need for a discussion when an image is added (I do it all the time) nor, conversely, when one is removed. You may have felt the editor was a shade cryptic when removing the image but he was perfectly within his rights. If you replace it you are also within your rights provided you don't edit war and avoid WP:3RR, although if you wish to continue the process I think it would be better to start a discussion the Orkney talk page rather than going there.
On a more specific note, when I saw the image appearing and then being removed, on balance I sided with the removal. The image did appear rather indistinct to me at first glance. However, I subsequently saw your comments at User talk:Richard Harvey. First of all, I agree that the panorama image is not especially helpful, certainly at that location in the article. Secondly, I took another look at your image, and began to see what your intentions were. I note that Mr. Harvey is from Yorkshire in England - a fine place, with lots of wonderful scenery. By comparison, Orkney might well look bleak, and the image lacking in detail, - although it does in fact evoke the Orkney landscape fairly effectively. In short, I don't have a strong view on the subject either way. However, as you may have seen the Orkney article is due for a WikiProject Scottish Islands clean up this month, so one way or another I can't really avoid the issue.
Finally, and per the above, my suggestion is that if you feel the inclusion of the image is important, raise it at Talk:Orkney - other editors there may have a useful perspective to add. Regards, Ben MacDui 19:26, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
