Orphaned non-free media (Image:OUSLogoTop.jpg)
editThanks for uploading Image:OUSLogoTop.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 01:50, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
Welcome
editHi Grrarg! Just wanted to say, your attempt to put the logo on {{Oregon University System}} is a great idea, and it's unfortunate that the legal constraints we're under don't permit it. I hope that all the attention it's gathered doesn't give you the impression that your contributions aren't welcome; clearly you're here with a desire to improve the encyclopedia, and that's something that's highly valued around here. You may want to check out Wikiproject Oregon, where you'll find lots of other people with an interest in Oregon subjects. -Pete (talk) 18:52, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
- The reason I put that "OUS" text block into the template as a visual marker instead of a logo is because, to use a copyrighted image on Wikipedia, you have to make a strict justification on the image's page for each and every appearance it makes in the encyclopedia (see Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria). Since templates can be transcluded throughout Wikipedia, with no real way to control where they're appearing, it was decided to keep all "non-free media" out of TemplateSpace. --Dynaflow babble 20:36, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
