Stubstuff

Stub Tagging Conflict

I've been trying to double stub Hakfar Hayarok with {{Israel-stub}} in addition to {{school-stub}} because it is a school located in Israel (for which there is no separate school-stub category). Michaelas10 refuses to allow the {{Israel-stub}} to remain on the article, saying that it is not Israel related. Relevant discussion is on my userpage as well as his. I don't want to start an edit war, but when someone interferes with such a basic activity as stubsorting with an argument such as this, it makes me rather peeved. Could you suggest a next course of action? I've added the stub three times, and he's removed it the same number. Aelfthrytha 23:45, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

Crzrussian is right. If you'd taken the time to read the instructions you'd have known to go to WP:WSS/P, and would have been told that the naming guidelines for stub templates insist on a hyphen between the topic and the word stub. Grutness...wha? 11:25, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

There was one stub template {{fashion-stub}}. I copied that template and created two new templates: {{fashionstub}} and {{clothingstub}}, and created a new stub category - the clothing one. I then set about searching through the {{fashion-stub}} list, deleting that stub and replacing it with either {{fashionstub}} or {{clothingstub}} depending on whether the article was about fashion or about clothing. Hi. I notice that there has been no further discussion on the above subject since my reply of 10th June. Please can you confirm that your concerns have been adequately addressed, and that you don't have any further objections to the creation of Category:National Health Service stubs? I've added a comment to the discussion. Basically I don't think there's any problem in making the new category now (when you do, take the old one over to WP:SFD for deletion), but it's probably worth waiting a couple of days in cased there are any more objections. Euro-geo-stub

First of all Gibraltar is not a country but a place of United Kingdom, so it must belong to UK-geo-stub. We use euro stub if there is no sub category. That's why i removed them

Gibraltar may be a "place of United Kingdom", but it is a place in mainland Europe that does not at present have its own stub category, due to not having the required number of geography stubs. As such, its stubs are categorised as being in Europe, in the same way that geography stubs from Anguilla, the Cayman Islands, the Turks and Caicos and Montserrat are categorised as being in the Caribbean (along with French and Dutch analogues such as Guadeloupe and Sint Maarten), Pitcairn's are categorised as being in Oceania, and St Helena's are categorised as being in the Atlantic. If you have a problem with that, bring it up at WP:WSS - don't simply unilaterally decide that you don't like it and move the stubs. Grutness...wha? 00:30, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

See here. I'd already proposed the Costa Ricans, and am splitting them out now. The USs seem too big to be worth splitting out en masse, and the UKs are seemingly too small. African geo stubs

Hi Grutness. I've created a little list in case the African -geos should (one day) be rearranged according to the UN's new system. Do you mind if I add a little note on the relevant category pages? Anyway, iff such a change is implemented it will be a lot easier now that so many countries have been split off. In fact, I was surprised so many had been split off already.

Well, here is the list, and I think it is complete:

• Mauritania: N -> W {{Mauritania-geo-stub}}
• Cameroon: W -> C {{Cameroon-geo-stub}}
• Gabon: W -> C {{Gabon-geo-stub}}
• Congo-Brazzavilla: W -> C (no national template)
• São Tomé and Príncipe: W -> C (no national template)
• Equatorial Guinea: W -> C (no national template)
• Angola: S -> C {{Angola-geo-stub}}
• Madagascar: S -> E {{Madagascar-geo-stub}}
• Zambia: S -> E {{Zambia-geo-stub}}
• Zimbabwe: S -> E {{Zimbabwe-geo-stub}}
• Malawi: S -> E {{Malawi-geo-stub}}
• Comoros: S -> E (no national template)

Glacier stubs

Don't worry about a thing...it really is my mistake since I should have remembered that many have worked hard on the stub sorting project...so I should have gotten approval for the stub before I created one. Let me know what I can do to help...and feel free to delete the glacier stub template and the category page whenever you get done adding in the proper geo stubs to those articles listed. I suppose that if you think we can have some kind of stub template still, that is fine. I'm not bothered in the least about having the messagebox link all related articles via the talk page...I mean, I am pretty much the only active participant in the project so far. I see you're working your way alphabetically through the glacier stubs.I am not familiar with the geo stub categorization, so I haven't been much help to you in removing the existing glacier stub...but maybe having it there makes it easier, until you finish, in locating a few articles that needed geo stubs reorganized. It is confusing, as I added the glacier stub to all articles I quickly surveyed that either were about glaciers, glaciology and closely related articles. Again, it's no big deal since there is no way I'm going to be able to work on several hundred articles to get them above stub level.--MONGO 05:35, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

I would second this; Maoririder's stubs were all text-only, and many were deleted because he never got a grasp of Wikipedia. It had nothing to do with the content. I would recommend that you restore the template and, if necessary, list it on TfD instead. (ESkog)^(Talk) 03:05, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

A couple of things about this. Firstly, the template is essentially the same as Maoririder's in that it is an attempt to split geography stubs by landform type (specifically, by mountains). As far as Maoririder's stub templates being deleted because they were text only, this is not true. Several of them were adopted and fixed up. Restaurant-stub is one such stub. Mountain-stub, however, was deemed to be an inappropriate way to split geography stubs, and it was for that reason that it was deleted. As it says at WP:STUB, "For example, geography stubs are sorted by country so you wouldn't want to create mountain-stub or river-stub". In other words, the type created is specifically mentioned as one not to be created. As to listing it at TFD, the place to list it is at WP:SFD, where it was listed prior to the speedy deletion. More stub sorting - Queensland National Parks

Hi. There seem to be a lot of Qld National Park articles in Category:Queensland geography stubs. I'd like to create a {{Queensland national parks stub}}. Can you see any obvious problems in doing that? Should I go through the proposals for stubs process to save the trouble that occurred last time, or is there some other process I should follow? Red Shift

Good job; changed my vote to keep. It would be helpful if you could do the following, though:

• List the source
• Clear up whether the band's name is Red Shift or Redshift, and after AfD is over with (the closing admin really doesn't have a leg to stand on for closing as delete now), if the band's name is Redshift, use the page move function to move it over to the correct article.
• Find out when the last two albums on the list were released.

I really don't know anything about the subject matter, so I'm not too comfortable editing the article. Anyway, I'm always impressed when someone manages to rescue an article from AfD, so thanks :-) Captainktainer * Talk 04:58, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

School articles

Hi Grutness

Thanks for looking at my edits. I admit I was a bit too aggressive with my pruning, however this is motivated by the fact that in most cases the authors of the school pages are almost always ex-students (therefore biased), and that notable schools' articles would be written by outsiders. I certainly don't want to send the school articles to deletion (considering we've got train stations etc on WP which imo are more worthy of deletion), but I believe the pruning was necessary to get the articles down to the bare bones so they could be written better.

I'll keep your comment in mind; I'll exercise a bit more discretion and utilise the Talk pages more.

Melanesian mythology

This article was nominated for speedy deletion appropriately as an empty article. I have added four sentences but it is capable of further expansion. I recall you nominated a number of Polynesian gods for deletion and there were a couple of users who did sterling work on those articles. A few months ago, I made a post on the reference desk about a particular song I was looking for. You wrongly came up with "Easter Woman" by The Residents as a possible solution. Well, that wasn't it, but I had to download the song you suggested, that same day, to be sure. And I must tell you, I absolutely loved it! So I decided to download the whole Commercial Album, and I enjoyed it a lot as well. Now, a few months later, I already have 35 of their albums and they pretty much took the #1 spot in my top favourite "bands" - not much since I'm not a group kind of guy. I'm loving them, it's great! I just wish I could buy anything instead of downloading, but that is something out of my reach over here in Brazil....

Anyway, I'd just like to thank you for all this. It's interesting to see how simple events can have such a big influence later on our lives, and thinking about it gives a very nice feeling inside. Maori Hill in Dunedin

I just went through the Dunedin article with my term replacement set in AWB, I saw some Māori hill entries in the result preview, and I changed them all to Maori hill; however it turned out that some of the ones that I changed were already in the article before I came there! Yeah, the great thing about the well positioned ones (waverider bouys) is that they break their moorings on the very big waves and go walkabout, and people speculate as to what the breaking height it was. summarised history of Dunedin

Dear James,

As regards my remarks about your review, you're welcome. I'm going to attempt a tweking and slight enlargement of your summary history of Dunedin. Some key dates need mentioning and the reduction of the Maori section is a bit too summary. A lot happened in 700 years. Auckland and Christchurch both carry useful general summaries in their history sections, very short but they cover the main features. I'll attempt something similar for us.

Sultanate of Rotonda

This article is about a recent action taken by two architecture students in Carcavelos, concerning a roundabout and its gigantic size. By changing the beggining of the article is changed to

"The Sultanate of Rotonda is a fictional landlocked micronation founded ..."

I believe it meets Wikipedia's standards. Further changes will be made. Thanks

ok. But I still contest that micronations, as public actions taken to discuss a certain subject, aren't important enough to fit Wikipedia. Independent Free Area of Wanstonia is a good example in my opinion. Other public campaigns of smaller interest are also featured in Wikipedia. And I also contest that age should be a requisit for a Wikipedia article (there's the "current event" tag).

However, there was a mixup in all the chaos, so we'd like you to come in and identify which baby is yours." The fathers go inside. They are presented with 2 white babies and a black baby. The Aussie points to the black one and says "That's mine". The doctor says "Are you quite sure, sir? Wouldn't one of the other babies be yours?". Good news, we are under 400 images now from us (this only counts the ones that permission was not granted from us). Bad news, a lot of flags are now being taken from {{Vexillamundi}}, one of the smaller flag sites. While it is a small number, we still have a long way to go. I am checking other Wikipedias and see how many images from us they are using (I know the Commons has a few, but those are being purged slowly). Thanks. Its 7.55 here, Australia that is. Im in victoria, and it gets rather cold here, but im rather warm at the moment because im in lounge room. I need your advice.

I don't think this is your normal area of expertise, but I'd really appreciate your take on this one. An edit war has broken out about the historical status of Denmark-Norway. I think the talk page explains it better than words. Comanche was blocked a few days ago for incivility [2] but he is back now. This time, just reverting, but I still don't like his edit summaries. His edits themselves, - well, in my book, they speak pretty much for themself. I'm at my wits end with this one and I am becoming increasingly embarassed of being Danish. I have a couple of those books sitting in front of me, and the primary author of the article is User:Peter Entwisle, who is also the author of two of the listed books.
