editI see that I shall have many weeks/months of entertainment ahead of me as this list is unfurled :-) almost-instinct 10:50, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
- Ah, glad to see that you're back in action. Yes, I've just started the list and will add entries when I have time/inclination.--GuillaumeTell 16:32, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
ON full list
editSome thoughts:
- Should it be unleashed into article name-space as is (after sorting out duplicated links and any other problems)? It is quite long but doesn't exactly breach WP guidelines.
- If so, should the lists-by-music-director's-tenure be abolished? Are there any advantages in having both, and if so, what are they?
- Would another approach, for example a complete list of operas performed by Opera North, arranged by, say, composer and with minimal details, say Composer, Title, premiere season, revival season(s) - both linked to the big list(s) - be a possibility?
- Is it worth chewing the above over at the Opera Project?
- I think that any full list should be in addition to the current array of fantastic articles
- Having one single list is useful when wanting to see eg how many productions of Figaro or of Janacek operas there have been. But this one long list doesn't need anywhere near all the info so...
- The idea of it being trimmed re content seems good. Maybe: 1. Season (wikilinked to the relevent article-list?), 2. Premiere Season (ditto?! Maybe too much work...), 3. Title, 4. Composer, - and also 5. Director, with the year linking to the relevant list? Cast and Designer can def go, IMO - also Conductor? (I think so, on balance)
- I think we should thrash out what the basic options are before widening the discussion on the OP page, or less the discussion could go on forever. Or, maybe better, we sort something out, create the page, and then just put a note on the OP page?

I was thinking of something like this (composers in alpha order, dates are mostly made-up!):
Composer | Opera[1] | Director | Premiere | Revival(s) |
---|---|---|---|---|
Gluck | Orfeo ed Euridice | Emio Greco | 2001–02 | 2004-05 |
Stravinsky | Oedipus rex | Patrick Libby | 1980-81 | 1982-83, 1988-89 |

- Am wondering why you don't want to put them in chronological order...? Obviously if you want to order it by composer then this the best order for the columns. I think the date links are good. I like how this method of presentation will reduce the number of lines in the table almost-instinct 23:17, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
- It's just that the existing partial lists are all chronological, and what to me would look good from the ordinary opera fan's point of view (and without him/her having to manipulate the table) would be to show at a glance the range of operas by Mozart, Wagner, Verdi, Strauss, Rossini, Janacek, Weill, Handel, Puccini, Monteverdi, Chabrier, Sullivan, Offenbach, Gounod, Berlioz, Gershwin et al that have (or haven't) been performed/revived by the company, and when. --GuillaumeTell 00:02, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
- I've been wracking my brains wondering how to reorder this information without doing it extremely laboriously by hand. Btw, although my "contributions" might not indicate this, I'm around on WP a lot, just not editing almost-instinct 12:16, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
