How can I improve this proposal? --Guy Macon (talk) 07:58, 28 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Guy Macon: Your page is actually not suitable to replace the main page but i had a proposal, you can ask for another link on the main page which says : Having problem reading this? Switch to a simpler version of this page. --Varun  06:27, 1 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

I wonder if this low-maintenance Main Page would be particularly well-suited for smaller Wikipedias. Many of them don't have a featured-quality article every month, much less every day, so putting up new content can be a real problem. User:WhisperToMe and User:LLarson, what do you think about using something like this as a model for w:ht:Paj Prensipal? A simpler design for www.wikipedia.org performed better in a recent A/B test than the current one (results reported in phab:T131526#2399007; compare the first screenshot in that task against the 'bookshelves' at https://www.wikipedia.org/ ). @WhatamIdoing and WhisperToMe: I don’t oppose a pared‑down main page on ht:. The Phabricator entry and screenshot look more like what to present to a visitor who hasn’t already chosen Haitian Creole, though. I’m not sure I follow? —LLarson (said & done) 18:38, 2 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
The Phab stuff is all about www.wikipedia.org. User:Guy Macon/Simple Main Page is a proposal for what to show people who have already gone to en.wikipedia.org (instead of the much bigger Main Page here). I'm thinking that Guy's idea is something we could adapt for htwiki. (And by "adapt", I definitely mean "don't do exactly this". For example, htwiki really doesn't have anything that should be in a section called "Today's Featured Content".) WhatamIdoing (talk) 02:36, 3 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
@WhatamIdoing: I agree that for HT wiki and smaller wikis the page should be low maintenance WhisperToMe (talk) 16:32, 3 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
@WhatamIdoing:, @Guy Macon: Wow! If you want to redo the Haitian Wikipedya Main paj, then go for it. Not even for one split second do I have enough guts to edit the main page of any Wikipedia. Please feel free to experiment with the Haitian page, as if I have any say in the matter. Will it be easy to edit? I would love to highlight articles authored by other editors periodically. I hope to identify editors who would want to become involved enough to attend some Wikimedia conference in the future. Making the ht main page more attractive would really make participation more appealing.

Bfpage (three user names are pretty inconvenient, but I don't want you to guess who I am all the time.)
The idea that I am suggesting is a simple main page where most things that now clutter the page become links to other pages. This particular page is just an example of what such a page would look like. I would expect and welcome careful tweaking of what gets linked to and what the wording of each link should be once the basic idea is approved. --Guy Macon (talk) 09:20, 3 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
I'm sorry I forgot to offer to translate the content. I will do so and then send you the link. MdmPaj (talk) 00:46, 9 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Is this what I am thinking? Did you really propose the current format of the Main Page? Was this the second format? — Python Drink (talk) 19:47, 19 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

I have no idea what you are talking about. I proposed a far simpler main page where most things that now clutter the page become links to other pages. It will never happen because each part of the clutter is owned by a small group of editors who refuse to give up their place on the main page even if the result resembles these classics:
