June 2022

edit

Your recent editing history at The Open Championship‎ shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. Northern Ireland is part of the UK

edit

I see you've been trying to change the short description for The Open Championship from "Golf tournament held in the UK" to "Golf tournament held in the UK and Northern Ireland". The latter doesn't make sense, because Northern Ireland is part of the UK. Cordless Larry (talk) 11:51, 2 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

What does your passport say? Hamishcm (talk) 13:03, 2 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

It says "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland". Not "United Kingdom and Northern Ireland". --Escape Orbit (Talk) 13:08, 2 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
Yes, the official name of the country is United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, so Great Britain and Northern Ireland might make sense, but United Kingdom and Northern Ireland doesn't. Cordless Larry (talk) 14:50, 2 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

  Please stop your disruptive editing.

If you continue to disrupt Wikipedia, as you did at The Open Championship, you may be blocked from editing. -- Vaulter 21:24, 4 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

You have been blocked from editing from certain pages (The Open Championship) for a period of 1 week for edit warring. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions.
During a dispute, you should first try to discuss controversial changes and seek consensus. If that proves unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.   -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 02:46, 5 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in the Troubles. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

To opt out of receiving messages like this one, place {{Ds/aware}} on your user talk page and specify in the template the topic areas that you would like to opt out of alerts about. For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for edit warring.
During a dispute, you should first try to discuss controversial changes and seek consensus. If that proves unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection.

  • Because your editing shows not just a failure to coöperate with other editors at The Open Championship, but also a failure to misunderstand our policies on edit warring and consensus, I have made this block site-wide. If you can show that you understand these important Wikipedia-wide principles, I am open to downgrading this to an indefinite partial block from just The Open Championship article. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 17:54, 15 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
