Expansion
Just to let you know I've expanded the article on the National Churches Trust. --Peter I. Vardy (talk) 11:05, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
DYK topic
Sorry to trouble you about this, but I wonder if you would be so kind as to have a look at the debate at DYK here. The suggestion appears to have become "stuck" because of comments that I regard as inappropriate for DYK (and IMO wrong). If you would like to make a comment, I should be grateful; if not, no worry. Cheers. --Peter I. Vardy (talk) 14:39, 5 July 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Peter, talk-page stalking here, but I wonder whether it would help improve the article, and the potential hooks, if you used some more non-NCT sources e.g. through Google News such as this NCT-based story that nearly 10% of British churches are in a poor or very poor condition. Shifting the focus of the hook slightly away from the NCT itself to the battle that it faces might reduce the unintentional impression about which that particular editor seems to be concerned. --BencherliteTalk 15:19, 5 July 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks to both; point taken. I've added some material from a secondary source (a book). I've not used the news item (above) because it's not really a none-NCT source, being based on a survey done by the NCT and published on their website (I guess the press obtained this either from the website or a press release). My purpose in expanding a two-sentence stub on the Trust was to pave the way for improving the Churches Conservation Trust article. It would be good to get this to GA standard, and then we can have a FT with that and the five lists. (Or we could even do something larger, based on the preservation of church buildings, involving the Friends of Friendless Churches and the Historic Chapels Trust).--Peter I. DYK for Greatham Church
On 8 July 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Greatham Church, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that writer Arthur Mee was once advised not to mistake Greatham Church (pictured) for a haystack? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |
DYK for Horsham Unitarian Church
On 10 July 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Horsham Unitarian Church, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Elizabeth Gatford, who endowed a charity that distributed bread to the poor at Horsham General Baptist Chapel, was buried in four coffins? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |
DYK for Robertsbridge United Reformed Church
On 21 July 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Robertsbridge United Reformed Church, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the design of Robertsbridge United Reformed Church (pictured) in England has been described as "truly horrible" and "most dissolute"? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |
Thank you Victuallers (talk) 08:02, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
You have anything on this? Ooo, great. Would love to build it like we did with the other inn article. I have my eyes on Rye Castle Museum also. Perhaps you could visit that on your trip to Rye and photograph it? Also I want to start the Olde Bell Inn. Also created Category:Rye, East Sussex♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:41, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. Looks a nice area. Icklesham looks nice too.
Hokay. I've come across an inn called the Queen's Head which is supposed to be haunted. It says ints in Winchelsea but it appears to be Icklesham. I'll look into it. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:34, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
I'll see about getting infobox building updated to include the listed building parameters. I want to keep the top photo at it is supposed to be the logo.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:41, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
I've stubbed The Old Bell Inn, Rye. If you visit it perhaps you could go inside and take some pics?♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:30, 23 July 2011 (UTC)
Folkington
Hello again. If you should be anywhere near Folkington (dead-end minor road going south off the A27 between Wilmington and Polegate) on your trip to/from Rye, might you be able to visit the churchyard and photograph the gravestone of Elizabeth David? I've been there, but without a camera, and (from memory) it's easy to find, somewhere around the path from the gate to the church. Commons has images of the church but not the grave, and a shot of the grave would enhance the end of the (featured) article. No problem if this is inconvenient/pouring with rain/stuck in traffic jams, etc. Best. --GuillaumeTell 16:32, 23 July 2011 (UTC)
- No problem, it's not urgent, and don't feel that you have to get to Folkington. If you don't manage it, let me know and I'll explore other avenues. (I can't believe that Eastbourne has a beer festival - either the place must be looking up or the inhabitants are getting younger!) --GuillaumeTell 21:08, 24 July 2011 (UTC)
I await your response before proceeding with the formal checklist.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:34, 24 July 2011 (UTC)
Ref the date and move the fire engine image down as desired and I'll formally checklist against the GA criteria, Regards.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:23, 24 July 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the swift response. Will assess shortly.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:39, 24 July 2011 (UTC)
Congratulations on a well-deserved GA.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:17, 24 July 2011 (UTC)
You on holiday for the week in East Sussex I gather? Have a great time.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:10, 24 July 2011 (UTC)
- Congrats on the GA! I've [found a source of C19 newspapers online via the British Library which might be useful for adding in additional details in the push for FA if you want to go down that route. If you've got a library card you should be able to access it. BTW, have you ever heard of the Brighton Patriot? Mjroots (talk) 21:47, 24 July 2011 (UTC)
I noticed that you're working on the above. You might like to know there are a couple of templates that simplify the formatting of references to the Images of England and National Heritage List for England websites:
